Nebraska Basketball: Huskers defeat Chadron State 87-60

Nebraska defeated Chadron State 87-60

The Nebraska Cornhuskers played an exhibition match against Chadron State on Sunday. It was a solid showing for the Cornhuskers, as they walked away with a 87-60 victory.

Forward Juwan Gary led the way with 23 points and nine rebounds in a little over 19 minutes. The Alabama transfer was efficient shooting 9-17 from the field.

Transfers Sam Griesel and Emmanuel Bandoumel also had good performances. Bandoumel had nine points and two steals. Meanwhile, Grisel had 14 points on 6-9 shooting. He also added seven assists, four rebounds, and a steal.

Griesel also had the biggest highlight of the game. In the second half, he posterized a Chadron State defender on a strong drive to the basket.

Nebraska will play another exhibition game on October 30 against Colorado.

Updated Heisman Trophy race odds, performances, after Week 8

An updated look at the Heisman race with new odds and performances from Week 8. Is C.J. Stroud still the favorite? #GoBucks #Heisman

Winning a Heisman Trophy puts an athlete in a very, very exclusive club. It also punches your ticket to the ā€œHeisman Houseā€ commercials, so thereā€™s that too. Well, if you can stand to hang out with Michigan’s Desmond Howard that is.

Ohio State has a long history of Heisman trophies, tied for the most of any program withĀ Notre DameĀ andĀ OklahomaĀ (seven). Sorry USC, Reggie Bush took theĀ Trojansā€™Ā total down to six after he was stripped of his.

This year the Buckeyes have another Heisman hopeful, quarterback C.J. Stroud. He was one of the front-runners for the bronze statue in the preseason and nothing has happened to change that aside fromĀ Tennesseeā€™s Hendon Hooker coming on strong after the victory over Alabama and the offensive numbers he’s putting up.

Each week, we like to check in on the updated odds and performances of the players that are on the shortlist to stiff-arm the competition and take arguably the most coveted individual award in all of American sports home.

Stroud has been at or near the top so far this season, but after a week in the offense didn’t look like its potent self against Iowa, how did it change things? Here are the updated odds according to Tipico, and last weekā€™s performances of the top guys to compare it all.

Where do Stroud and the other top contenders stand after Week 8?

SEC power rankings after Week 8

Updated SEC power rankings after Week 8

It was a relatively quiet week in the Southeastern Conference, with five teams on their bye week.

In Week 8, we saw LSU take down Ole Miss, Alabama top Mississippi State, South Carolina won over Texas A&M, Missouri beat Vanderbilt and Tennessee beat up on UT Martin.Ā Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Auburn and Arkansas all had the week off.

There’s not too much movement in my updated power rankings, but it does see LSU jump up after the big win over the Rebels.

Predicting CFP rankings after Week 8: Three new teams enter the top 25

Not much movement at the top

There were two top-10 teams that lost on Saturday: UCLA and Mississippi.

The Oregon Ducks looked like a legit offense on Saturday after putting up 45 points on the previously unbeaten Bruins. Quarterback Bo Nix threw five touchdown passes and looked pretty flawless.

Brian Kelly gained his first signature win coaching LSU, beating Ole Miss by 25 points. Jayden Daniels, the Tigers quarterback, not only threw two touchdowns, but also ran the ball for 121 yards and scored three times on the ground.

A few of the top teams continued their winning ways.

The Buckeyes continue to dominate, while it may have taken a while for the offense to get going. Ohio State — with the help of Spencer Petras and the Iowa offense — scored 54 points against the Hawkeyes.

Clemson survived a scare against a good Syracuse team, and Alabama defeated Mississippi State Saturday evening.

Three of our Week 7 top 25 College Football Playoff teams dropped out and three new teams enter the picture.

Here is our prediction of what the CFP top 25 rankings would look like after Week 8.

Joel Klatt updates his top 10 college football teams after seeing Ohio State in person for the first time

How did this weekend’s games impact Joel Klatt’s college football top ten? Does he still have Ohio State No. 1 after seeing the Buckeyes in person for the first time in 2022?

Fox college football analyst Joel Klatt — along with his partner Gus Johnson — has almost become known as one of the voices of Ohio State football with as many games as he’s called over the last three seasons. Despite it all, he tends to have an unbiased and well-thought opinion when it comes to his voice compared to many others out there (ahem — cough, cough, Desmond Howard).

However, Klatt called his first Ohio State game in person in 2022 this past weekend against Iowa, so he finally saw a Buckeye team that has been playing awfully well over the last few weeks.

After the conclusion of all of the college football games for the week, Klatt gives us his opinion rankings of the top teams in the country, and there’s no doubt he took his first visit to the ‘Shoe in 2022 into consideration. He’s had Ohio State as his No. 1 team prior to this week, and you had to wonder if the early struggles on offense swayed his opinion in any way.

Week 8 had many top teams, including Georgia and Michigan, on a bye, and Tennessee played an overmatched UT Martin in what could have also been considered a bye.

Here’s how Klatt sees things after all the action was completed this weekend. This time he gave us his top 10 teams with a few just outside in his mind.

ESPN updates college football power rankings after Week 8

There were some big games on Saturday!

Michigan football and Georgia had bye weeks in Week 8, and while there weren’t as many big ranked-on-ranked matchups as last week, there was still some big-time action on Saturday.

Tennessee had to get up for a game against UT-Martin. Clemson survived Syracuse. Alabama nearly shut out Mississippi State. Ohio State pulled away from Iowa. Oklahoma State upended Texas. TCU came back (again) to beat Kansas State. Oregon took down ranked UCLA, and Penn State rebounded by beating a solid Minnesota team.

As usual, ESPN came up with its top 25, having released its latest power rankings. Here is how the worldwide leader sees the hierarchy of college football now that we’re eight weeks in.

Big Ten football power rankings after Week 8: Bring on the home stretch.

An updated look at the Big Ten power rankings after Week 8.

Eight weeks into the college football season and we’re starting to get an idea of the real pecking order in the Big Ten and around the country. Ohio State and Michigan look like the real deal in the conference, while other teams have had very up-and-down campaigns.

Minnesota has fallen off, Penn State looks great when it plays teams not named Michigan, Purdue may not be as good as we thought, and Illinois now seems to be in the driver’s seat in a very unpredictable West division. Everything else, well — it’s up in the air.

We like to look at the results each week and see which teams are the class of the league and which are falling off. It changes every week and we’re often surprised by some of the results that reset our expectations and notions.

Here is how we see the Big Ten football power rankings after Week 8.

Joel Klatt updates top 10 college football teams through Week 8

We’re really starting to know what teams are the best in CFB at this point.

It wasn’t as exciting of a week in college football, chock full of upsets as some other weeks, and no top 10 matchups as there were last week, but it was still a conclusive slate on Saturday.

Though Georgia and Michigan football were both on bye in Week 8, Ohio State blew out Iowa, Alabama destroyed Mississippi State, Tennessee overmatched UT-Martin, Oklahoma State survived a stunner against Texas, TCU outlasted Kansas State, and others came into play.

RELATED: Joel Klatt’s top 10 after Week 7

As usual, Fox Sports’ premier analyst, Joel Klatt, updated his top 10 after the Week 8 top 25 concluded play, and while there weren’t any changes at the top, some teams got back into his top group.

Here is his ranking.

Big Ten power rankings after Week 8: A gulf from top to bottom

Which team is on top after Week 8?

Once again, 10 of the Big Ten’s 14 teams were in action on Week 8, but this week, very little surprised.

Ohio State struggled for a half against Iowa before blowing the Hawkeyes out, Rutgers came back to beat Indiana at home, a shorthanded Maryland upended Indiana, Wisconsin surprised Purdue, and Penn State rebounded against a Tanner Morgan-less Minnesota in a ‘white out.’ Michigan, Nebraska, Michigan State, and Illinois all had a bye week.

So, was Ohio State’s win over Iowa enough to vault it back into the top spot? Where did the other teams move after Week 8? Here are our latest Big Ten power rankings now that Week 8 is in the books.
