Who is the Super Bowl LV halftime performer?

The Weeknd has been announced as the halftime act for Super Bowl LV.

Attendance will be smaller in-person but that only means the viewing audience for Super Bowl 55 on television will be larger. It was announced on Thursday who the halftime performer will be for the game that scheduled for Feb. 7 at Tampa Bay’s Raymond James Stadium.

And the winner is: The Weeknd.

“We can’t wait to welcome multi-award winning artist The Weeknd to the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show stage,” said Adam Harter, senior vice president of PepsiCo’s Sports, Media and Entertainment division.

The Canadian rapper (real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye), 30, also announced his Super Bowl debut in a Thursday tweet, which read: “performing on the iconic stage. see you 02/07/21.”

“We all grow up watching the world’s biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position,” The Weeknd said. “I’m humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year.”

The Weeknd is a three-time Grammy Award winner whose 2020 album “After Hours” is the most-streamed R&B album of all time.

Raymond James Stadium banner shows Tom Brady in all his Bucs glory

Take a look at the new banners outside Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will begin their voyage towards the 2020 regular season when training camp kicks off next week.

For the Bucs, this offseason has been perhaps the wildest in franchise history. Not only did they sign the greatest quarterback of all time to their roster in Tom Brady, while also trading for tight end Rob Gronkowski, but they’ve had to deal with the fallout and restrictions from the coronavirus pandemic.

While the situation is fluid, the NFL is still planning for the season to start on time. And, to get you excited about the Bucs’ upcoming season and the start of the Brady era, take a look at some of the new banners outside Raymond James Stadium.

Adam Schein says this team will reign supreme in Super Bowl LV in Tampa

Find out who Adam Schein of NFL.com thinks will be holding the Lombardi Trophy at the conclusion of Super Bowl LV in Tampa next year.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking to become the first team to play in and win a Super Bowl in their own home stadium, as Super Bowl LV will be played at Raymond James Stadium next year.

The script seems almost too perfect for the Bucs — a franchise with a decade-long postseason drought signs the greatest quarterback of all time to their roster and he leads them on a championship run that ends in their own stadium.

But the path to Super Bowl LV won’t be an easy one for Tom Brady and his Buccaneers. Not only will they have to contend with tough teams in the NFC South like the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints, but they’ll face other Super Bowl-contending teams in 2020, like the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs will visit Brady and the Bucs at Raymond James, providing us with hopefully another memorable Brady-Mahomes matchup. And while Adam Schein of NFL.com is a fan of the new-look Bucs, he has the Kansas City Chiefs repeating as Super Bowl champions this season.

Here’s part of Schein’s reasoning:

“Still just 24 years old, Mahomes has been an NFL starter for two seasons. In Year 1, he ran away with league MVP honors after becoming just the second quarterback to hit 50 touchdowns and 5,000 yards passing, joining Peyton Manning. In Year 2, he was named Super Bowl MVP after leading the Chiefs on three fourth-quarter touchdown drives against the 49ers’ vaunted defense. And there’s still plenty of room for growth, which is staggering, considering everything he’s accomplished in just 36 NFL starts. (By the way, if Dee Ford hadn’t lined up offsides in the 2018 AFC title game, Mahomes would already be a back-to-back champ.)”

Schein also likes what he sees from the defense, especially after the team reached a new deal with Chris Jones.

Thee’s no question that Mahomes and the Chiefs will be favorites to repeat in 2020. But as we’ve learned over the past two decades, you can never count out Tom Brady.

Ever.

Here’s a look at the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl odds with Tom Brady

Now that quarterback Tom Brady is expected to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, take a look at the team’s Super Bowl odds heading into 2020.

In case you missed it, Tom Brady will be the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, at the very least for the 2020 NFL season.

According to Caesars Sportsbook, the Buccaneers are now sitting with 22/1 odds to win the Super Bowl, pitting them as the eighth-favorite team to hoist the Vince Lombardi trophy — at their own stadium no less. The top 10 teams are as follows:

  • Kansas City Chiefs- 4/1
  • San Francisco 49ers- 7/1
  • Baltimore Ravens- 8/1
  • Dallas Cowboys- 11/1
  • Seattle Seahawks/New Orleans Saints- 14/1
  • Green Bay Packers- 16/1
  • New England Patriots 20/1
  • Buccaneers/Philadelphia Eagles- 22/1

Of course, this is where the Buccaneers currently stand, and it could be set to shift more in favor of the Buccaneers if they make any other big splashes in free agency and grade well in the upcoming draft.

With Super Bowl LV being played at Raymond James Stadium, Brady signing with the Buccaneers makes them legitimate contenders in the league. The talk of this team being the first to play a Super Bowl on their home field has certainly increased ten-fold.

Texans QB Deshaun Watson is all too familiar with Raymond James Stadium

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is all too familiar with Raymond James Stadium, where he won a national championsip for Clemson.

Jan. 9, 2017. Tampa, Fla. Raymond James Stadium.

Rolling right, Deshaun Watson scanned. What he was looking for, Hunter Renfrow, was there. The result was ideal.

Watson threw the touchdown to win Clemson their first national championship since 1981, beating juggernaut Alabama with one second left.

On Saturday, Dec. 21, Watson will play at Raymond James Stadium for the first time since making the life-changing, program-altering pass, this time as the quarterback of the 9-5 Houston Texans. He will face the 7-7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Will Watson carry the sentiment of the toss into Saturday?

“For sure, definitely the first time. Just try to refresh my mind on how the field is set up,” Watson said on Tuesday. “Definitely different than a national championship game, but as far as just the play clock and I guess how far the stands are from the field and it’s going to be louder than that (game). It’s going to bring back a lot of memories for sure.”

“It was just a great day overall. So, it was a cool environment, cool stadium and definitely a lot of fun.”

Watson threw the touchdown in the right corner of the end zone. He will make sure that he pays a visit to the spot.

“Yeah, that right corner down toward the tunnel is definitely a spot that I will have to revisit for sure,” Watson said.

Though not playing for a national championship on Saturday, the return to Raymond James Stadium could warrant a celebration if the Texans beat the red-hot Buccaneers.

With a win, Watson and the Texans would clinch the AFC South division crown, in turn, locking themselves into a home playoff game. From there on, the Clemson great has the ability to complete a feat so few have: win a national championship and a Super Bowl.

  • When these teams meet, you should recall a Monday night battle in 2003 when Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison erupted for a giant comeback from 35-14 down with about seven minutes remaining.
  • The Colts head into this one with a 6-2-1 ATS mark across the past nine road games.
  • The Buccaneers enter 2-6 ATS across the past eight games overall, and they’re 0-5 ATS in the previous five contests at home.
  • The under is 5-2 across Indy’s past seven on the road, while going 21-5 in the next 26 games following a double-digit loss at home.
  • The Over has cashed in nine of the past 10 for the Bucs, while going 4-0 in the previous four at the RayJay.
  • Indy ranks fourth in rushing yards (139.0 YPG), and they’re ninth in the NFL against the run (101.8 YPG).
  • Tampa ranks fifth in the NFL in total yards (380.4 YPG), fourth in passing yards (284.2 YPG) and fourth in points scored (28.3 PPG).
  • The Bucs are second in the NFL against the run (76.3 YPG), but they’re 31st against the pass (281.8 YPG) and 30th in points allowed (28.8 PPG).

Colts at Buccaneers: Key injuries

Colts: CB Kenny Moore II (ankle), WR T.Y. Hilton (calf) and PK Adam Vinatieri (knee) are listed as out. RB Marlon Mack (hand) is likely to make his return, while WR Parris Campbell (hand) might also play.

Buccaneers: LB Jason Pierre-Paul (knee) and DB M.J. Stewart (knee) are questionable.

Prediction

Buccaneers 31, Colts 23

Moneyline (?)

The Buccaneers (-176) are a moderate favorite, but you’re better off playing the spread. If you like the Colts (+145), they’re a much better value on the ML.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on the Bucs moneyline returns a $5.68 profit with a Tampa victory.

Against the Spread (?)

The BUCCANEERS (-3.5, +100) are laying three and the hook, and that’s always a worry for bettors. However, the way the Colts (+3.5, -121) looked last week with the Tennessee Titans marching the ball up and down the field, the Bucs look like a safe play at home.

Over/Under (?)

OVER 47.5 (-106) is a good play based upon Tampa’s struggles against the pass, and the solid passing on both sides. The Bucs held the Jacksonville Jaguars down last week, but posted plenty on offense. They won’t hold the Colts in check, as Indy is much more gifted, and they might get a big bump with Mack returning to the backfield, too.

  • The Saints were stunned at home by the Atlanta Falcons last week, falling 26-9 despite entering the game as 14-point favorites.
  • New Orleans has covered three straight on the road, although this is its first time being favored away from home this season. Last season the Saints were 4-2 ATS in six games as a road favorite, including a 28-14 win at Tampa as 10-point favorites.

Saints: CB Carlton Davis (hip) practiced in full, but is still listed as questionable. LB Carl Nassib (groin), LB Anthony Nelson (hamstring) and S M.J. Stewart (knee) are out.

Buccaneers: OT Andrus Peat (forearm), CB Marshon Lattimore (hamstring) and WR Deonte Harris (hamstring) are each listed as out.

Saints at Buccaneers: Odds, betting lines and prediction

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Saturday at 2:20 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Saints 34, Buccaneers 26

Moneyline (?)

The Saints (-239) should be able to bounce back on the road in this divisional battle, but risking more than two times your return is not a wise way to go. The Buccaneers (+195) are awful on defense, but so were the Falcons. If there is any way to go, it’s the Bucs rather lightly.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on the Bucs moneyline returns a $19.50 profit with a Tampa Bay victory.

Against the Spread (?)

The SAINTS (-5.5, -110) should be able to get it done on the road, as long as their offense shows up. Their showing against an awful Atlanta defense was inexplicable, and you can expect them to pick apart the leaky D of the Buccaneers (+5.5, -110).

Over/Under (?)

The OVER 50.5 (-110) is the play whenever the Bucs are involved. The over has cashed in seven straight for the Bucs, and four of the past five at the RayJay. The Under has connected in eight of the past 11 on the road for the Saints, but the over is 9-3 in their past 12 following a straight-up loss.
