Who is the Super Bowl LV halftime performer?

The Weeknd has been announced as the halftime act for Super Bowl LV.

Attendance will be smaller in-person but that only means the viewing audience for Super Bowl 55 on television will be larger. It was announced on Thursday who the halftime performer will be for the game that scheduled for Feb. 7 at Tampa Bay’s Raymond James Stadium.

And the winner is: The Weeknd.

“We can’t wait to welcome multi-award winning artist The Weeknd to the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show stage,” said Adam Harter, senior vice president of PepsiCo’s Sports, Media and Entertainment division.

The Canadian rapper (real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye), 30, also announced his Super Bowl debut in a Thursday tweet, which read: “performing on the iconic stage. see you 02/07/21.”

“We all grow up watching the world’s biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position,” The Weeknd said. “I’m humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year.”

The Weeknd is a three-time Grammy Award winner whose 2020 album “After Hours” is the most-streamed R&B album of all time.
