Texans sign former Seahawks DT Rasheem Green to 1-year deal

The Houston Texans have signed former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Rasheem Green to a one-year contract.

The Houston Texans are adding some veteran help along the defensive line with the 2022 NFL draft fully in the rearview mirror.

According to Aaron Wilson from the Pro Football Network, the Texans are signing former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Rasheem Green to a one-year contract.

Green, who will be 25 on May 15, generated 6.5 sacks through 17 games last season, 16 of which he started. The former 2018 third-round pick from USC also picked up 48 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, and 15 quarterback hits last season.

The fewest sacks Green has produced in a season was 1.0 when he was a rookie and played 10 games, none of which he has started. The 6-4, 279-pound defensive tackle played in 53 career games with Seattle, missing only 12.

Green also visited with the Baltimore Ravens and Carolina Panthers along with the Texans.

The Texans are signing former Seahawks defensive end Rasheem Green to a one-year deal, according to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network.

Green was a third-round pick by Seattle in the 2018 NFL draft. He has appeared in 53 pro games, totaling 13.5 sacks and 27 quarterback hits. Green is coming off a career-best 2021 season, having posted 6.5 sacks and 15 QB hits. In addition to his pass rushing, he’s made a lot of splashy plays on special teams over the years.

However, the Seahawks are switching to more of a 3-4 base defense this year, which means they’re looking for a different kind of edge defender than most of the ones that were on the roster last year. So far they have released Benson Mayowa and Kerry Hyder Jr. and designated 2021 sack leader Carlos Dunlap as a post-June 1 cut.

Seattle has also brought in a few new names at this position. Uchenna Nwosu was their biggest-ticket item in free agency this year. They also used two draft picks on this spot – taking Minnesota’s Boye Mafe in Round 2 and Ohio State’s Tyreke Smith in Round 5.

They may not be done adding pieces here, yet. The team recently hosted free agent Mario Addison for a visit.

Seahawks’ Rasheem Green returns blocked Washington PAT for 2 points

The rare blocked PAT that became two points for Seattle after a return by Rasheem Green

Washington had momentum after scoring a late touchdown in the second quarter against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football.

All the WFT needed for a 10-7 lead was a Joey Slye PAT.

Not so fast. The Seahawks blocked the PAT and Rasheem Green corraled it and took off for the other end zone.

For the second time in NFL 2021, a team had its extra point blocked.

The two points were added to Seattle’s score and the game went to the half with the atypical score of 9-9.

4 studs and 2 duds in Seahawks 23-17 win over Eagles on MNF

Here are the four studs and the two duds from the Seattle Seahawks 23-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night in Week 12.

The Seattle Seahawks cemented their position atop the NFC West and improved to the No. 2 Seed in the conference with a 23-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on “Monday Night Football.”

The City of Brotherly Love has certainly shown the Seahawks plenty of love over the years. Seattle has now won seven-straight games in Philadelphia and hasn’t suffered a loss since 1989. Quarterback Russell Wilson has also improved to a blemish-free 6-0 record versus the Eagles in his career.

It wasn’t the flashiest performance from the high-flying Seahawks offense, but they did just enough to take advantage of easily the best performance all year from Seattle’s defense who suffocated the Birds all night long.

Monday night remains Seattle’s night, as the team with the best winning percentage on Monday night in NFL history notched another W under their belts. Here are 4 studs and only 2 duds from Seattle’s victory.

Seahawks activate DE Rasheem Green, elevate 2 from practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks activated Rasheem Green from the injured reserve and elevated Alex Collins and Jayson Stanley from the practice squad.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a number of roster moves Saturday afternoon ahead of their Week-9 contest against the Buffalo Bills.

Seattle has activated defensive end Rasheem Green from the injured reserve to the 53-man roster. Green was placed on the IR after he sustained a stinger Week 1 against the Falcons. After two weeks of practice, he is ready to go.

“Rasheem had a fantastic couple of weeks here,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said this week. “He’s in great shape, so he’s ready to get out there and play. He worked really hard in his rehab and return, and was in great shape before we started last week, so he looks really good.”

The Seahawks also elevated two players from the practice squad on Saturday – running back Alex Collins and cornerback Jayson Stanley.

Collins, who was originally drafted by Seattle, was brought in just this week to add depth at running back with Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde ruled out for this Sunday.

Seahawks DE Rasheem Green and G Phil Haynes return to practice Week 8

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Rasheem Green and guard Phil Haynes both returned to practice Week 8 from the injured reserve.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Wednesday that defensive end Rasheem Green and offensive guard Phil Haynes, both of whom have been on injured reserve, will be returning to practice this week. Both players were noted as such on Wednesday’s official transaction report.

With several key players missing time due to injuries, the return of Green and Haynes could help shore up their respective units, although the latter’s impact could be minimal seeing as Haynes has yet to play a single regular-season game. Green, however, could bring some firepower to a virtually nonexistent pass rush along with the incoming Carlos Dunlap, whose trade will be official once all physicals have been passed.

Although Green and Haynes will return to practice, it is not yet known when they will be activated and pressed into action. Fans will certainly hope they can contribute when they return to the field.

Seahawks place defensive end Rasheem Green on injured reserve

The Seahawks have placed defensive end Rasheem Green on the injured reserve with a stinger – he can return to the roster after three games.

The Seattle Seahawks have added another defensive player to the injured reserve this week. Coach Pete Carroll announced Friday afternoon that defensive end Rasheem Green was headed to the IR with a neck injury (stinger).

“It’s just going to be a couple more weeks, so this was the right way to handle this,” Carroll told reporters after the team walkthrough. “We’re expecting him to come back to us. He’s just got to get through the process to make sure he can pass his tests. It’s going to be a couple weeks, we think, so this is going to work out OK in terms of putting him down, and he’ll be available to return.”

Green now joins defensive back Marquise Blair and linebacker Bruce Irvin on the injured reserve, although their seasons are over due to torn ACLs and upcoming surgeries. Green can return to the active roster once he sits out the required three games.
