Saints say Michael Thomas (knee) questionable to return vs. Vikings

The New Orleans Saints say wide receiver Michael Thomas is questionable to return against the Minnesota Vikings with a knee injury:

The New Orleans Saints announced at the end of the first quarter that wide receiver Michael Thomas would be questionable to return against the Minnesota Vikings with a knee injury.

He received an extended look from team medical staff in the blue sideline tent and was spotted on the bench with his position coach Kodi Burns reviewing plays on a tablet. He was wearing a ball cap, not a helmet, during their first possession in the second quarter.

Thomas exiting did open an opportunity for rookie draft pick A.T. Perry, who caught his first NFL reception to gain 23 yards. But Perry was targeted later and lost his footing on the U.S. Bank Stadium turf, leading to an incomplete pass. He needs more experience.

Update: The Saints announced after halftime that Thomas would not return, having ruled him out for the rest of the game.

Every questionable Saints player traveled for Week 8 road game vs. Colts

Every questionable Saints player traveled for Week 8’s road game against the Colts, suggesting New Orleans could have all hands on deck in Indianapolis:

This is encouraging: NewOrleans.Football’s Mike Triplett reports that all of the Saints players listed as questionable on Week 8’s injury report made the trip for Sunday’s road game with the Indianapolis Colts. That includes the nine players previously listed on the injury report as well as wide receiver Michael Thomas, who the team later announced was questionable to play due to an illness.

A bug has been making the rounds through the team facility this week, impacting a range of personnel from Alvin Kamara and Dennis Allen to Marcus Maye and Jimmy Graham. But it’s looking like the Saints at least hope to have everyone available after all, though starting left tackle James Hurst is out with an ankle injury.

Another sign of optimism? The Saints didn’t elevate any players from their practice squad for this game despite having so many questionable statuses on the injury report. That certainly suggests they plan to play all available starters on Sunday. Here’s a quick recap of the players who were listed as questionable going into game day:

  • OL Andrus Peat (ankle)
  • LB Demario Davis (knee)
  • SS Tyrann Mathieu (foot)
  • FS Marcus Maye (hamstring/illness)
  • FS J.T. Gray (hamstring)
  • CB Alontae Taylor (hip)
  • QB Taysom Hill (chest)
  • OG Max Garcia (illness)
  • TE Jimmy Graham (illness)
  • WR Michael Thomas (illness)

Michael Thomas (illness) questionable vs. Colts in last-minute injury report update

The Saints say Michael Thomas (illness) is questionable against the Colts in a last-minute update to their Week 8 injury report:

he New Orleans Saints announced Saturday evening that wide receiver Michael Thomas was a last-minute addition to their injury report after coming down with an illness, and that he’s questionable to play in Week 8’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. Multiple Saints players and coaches have been dealing with an illness making its way through the facility this week.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that Thomas traveled to Indianapolis along with his nine teammates who were also questionable for the matchup, giving all of them a legitimate shot at suiting up on Sunday.

We’ll have to wait for the inactive list to be released 90 minutes prior to kickoff from Lucas Oil Stadium, but it’s a good sign that the Saints chose to not elevate anyone from their practice squad going into the game day. They must be optimistic that they’ll have all hands on deck.

9 of the Patriots’ 10 questionable players will suit up vs. Saints

The Patriots listed 10 players as questionable against the Saints due to injury, but 9 of them will suit up on Sunday afternoon:

There isn’t a better coach in the NFL at playing mind games than Bill Belichick. The New England Patriots head coach listed ten players as questionable for Week 5’s game with the New Orleans Saints due to injury — muddying the forecast of who might actually be available when the two teams kick off on Sunday afternoon.

But just one player out of that ten-man group will actually be sidelined because of injury: starting left guard Cole Strange, who has been dealing with a knee injury. The other nine players are all available, and several of them figure to have key roles in this week’s game plan.

Let’s hope the Saints are ready for it. Here’s who they must account for:

Analyzing the final Saints injury report vs. Bucs: Who’s in, who’s out?

Analyzing the final Saints injury report vs. Bucs: Who’s in, who’s out, and who has a chance to play?

The New Orleans Saints didn’t offer much clarity on their final Week 4 injury report — specifically on quarterback Derek Carr, who rested his injured throwing shoulder for the first few days of practice before participating on a limited basis Friday.

Carr is officially questionable to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but what about the other players listed on the injury report? What about the Bucs’ own injuries? Let’s consider who’s in, who’s out, and who has a chance to play on Sunday:

Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney underwent knee procedure on Tuesday

Kadarius Toney’s status for Week 1 of the #Chiefs’ 2023 campaign is officially in question after Andy Reid’s comments to the media on Tuesday.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8221″]

Wide receiver Kadarius Toney was slated to be Patrick Mahomes’ top target in the Kansas City Chiefs offense to start the 2023 season, but after he suffered a knee injury during Sunday’s practice session, his outlook for the immediate future is officially in question.

Andy Reid told the media after Tuesday’s workouts that Toney underwent a procedure to clean up cartilage in his knee, and that there was a “chance” that the receiver would be ready for Week 1.

This is not the news that Chiefs fans wanted to receive after Toney’s injury earlier in the week, but given the team’s newfound depth at wideout, the grim report on his status doesn’t seem as concerning.

Toney’s absence will pave the way for standout rookie Rashee Rice and veteran playmaker Richie James to get more snaps with the first-team offense, helping them build chemistry with Mahomes ahead of the regular season kickoff in September.

Fullback Troy Hairston questionable with rib injury

Hairston is considered to be questionable for the remainder of the #Texans’ matchup against the #Browns in Week 13

The Houston Texans are looking good in the second quarter of their matchup against the Cleveland Browns but may be without the services of their fullback Troy Hairston after he left the game with an injury to his ribs. He is considered questionable at this juncture, and his status for the rest of the game is unknown.

Hairston was targeted by quarterback Kyle Allen on a passing play near the goalline in the second quarter and took a hard hit as the defensive coverage collapsed on him. The play took place on a fourth down, and Houston would later score a safety on the ensuing possession by Cleveland.

The loss of their fullback could be a crushing blow to Houston’s offense if they intend to run the ball more in the second half. Hairston is a capable lead blocker, and would usually serve as an extra body to clear a path for Dameon Pierce on running plays.

Without him, Houston will need to sub a tight end at the position in sets that would usually feature fullbacks, or opt to only run in formations that do not involve designated lead blockers in the backfield.

Chiefs LG Joe Thuney downgraded to questionable for Week 13 vs. Bengals

#Chiefs LG Joe Thuney has been downgraded to questionable ahead of the Week 13 tilt with the #Bengals due to his ankle injury.

The Kansas City Chiefs could possibly be without their starting left guard for a second consecutive week.

Chiefs LG Joe Thuney missed the team’s Week 12 game against the Rams with an ankle injury. He returned to practice this week in full capacity from Wednesday through Friday, with no game status designation on the final injury report. Andy Reid even expressed confidence that he could return for Week 13.

On Saturday, the team announced that they’d officially downgraded Thuney to questionable game status.

Thuney has been dealing with this ankle injury since the Week 6 loss to the Bills, but he didn’t miss any time with the injury until recently. It has seemingly flared up to the point that the team is being cautious with a player who has typically been an Iron-Man throughout his career. In Week 12 against the Rams, Thuney was replaced by Nick Allegretti, who allowed just three pressures in 46 pass-blocking snaps according to PFF. He’s proven to be a serviceable backup for Kansas City and should be up to the task this week if Thuney is unable to go on Sunday.

Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf on injury: ‘My knee is good’

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf’s “knee is good” after injuring his patellar tendon and he is expected to play Week 9 in Arizona.

The Seattle Seahawks got quite a scare in Week 7 when star wide receiver DK Metcalf left the contest with an injury to his patellar tendon. Metcalf was listed as questionable to play last Sunday but ended up starting against the Giants after all.

Metcalf was limited in practice this Wednesday to start the work week but did give an update on his status during his press conference. “My knee is good,” he said.

When prompted as to whether or not he thought he might have missed Sunday’s game, Metcalf was clear.

“No, I told myself I was going to play and I don’t try to put negative thoughts in my head because when I say I’m going to do something, I’m going to do it,” he said. “I just had to convince Pete (Carroll) and everybody else that I was going to play because they were trying to protect me at all costs.”

Barring any further setbacks, Metcalf should be good to go for the Cardinals contest this Sunday in Arizona.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott loses grandmother, also questionable with calf

Dak Prescott was close with the woman he called Mammy, who stepped in when his mother died. The news comes as he rehabs a calf injury. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, already dealing with the uncertainty of a calf strain that may keep him out of Sunday night’s Week 8 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, has now suffered another heartbreaking loss in his personal life.

The Cowboys signal-caller was officially listed as “questionable” for Sunday’s game in Minnesota, but that pales in comparison to the other news that has touched the entire Prescott family.

Prescott’s maternal grandmother, Margaret Ebarb, has passed away. The quarterback shared several photos and messages about her Friday on his Instagram page.

“I promise to Make you Proud!” read one, in part. “I’ll forever be Thankful 4 You,” read another.

Ebarb was instrumental in helping Dak and his siblings after their mother (and Ebarb’s daughter), Peggy, lost her battle with colon cancer in 2013.

Prescott made headlines during the 2016 season when, rather than take advantage of a late-night TV appearance and several marketing deals that were being offered to the rookie passer in his coming-out season, he went back home to Louisiana during the Cowboys’ bye week specifically to spend time with his grandmother, whom he called “Mammy.”
