Cardinals cut S Qwuantrezz Knight

Knight played in six games for Arizona last season, logging no stats in four defensive and 32 special teams snaps.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a roster move, one that won’t really move the needle for fans. The team announced that safety Qwuantrezz Knight was cut.

Knight is placed on waivers for any other team to claim him. If he goes unclaimed after 24 hours, he will become a free agent, as his contract is terminated.

Knight wasn’t with the Cardinals long.

After spending his rookie season in 2022 on the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad (he was a rookie free agent out of UCLA that year), he was signed by the Cardinals to their active roster from the Niners’ practice squad back in September. He also spent time on Arizona’s practice squad before being re-signed to the roster in November.

He appeared in six games, playing four defensive snaps and 32 on special teams. He did not log any statistics.

49ers should bring back familiar UDFA

The #49ers should bring back this familiar face who was just released by the Cardinals:

The Arizona Cardinals on Thursday released defensive back Qwuantrezz Knight.

This name might not mean much to those not dialed deep into 49ers offseason rosters or the practice squad, but Knight was a popular name in camp for San Francisco since they signed him as an undrafted rookie following the 2022 draft. He was let go as part of the 49ers’ final roster cuts last offseason and the Cardinals swooped in to sign him. Now Knight is available following his release from Arizona and the 49ers should aim to bring him back.

Last season Knight debuted for the Cardinals and played in six games, mostly contributing on special teams. It’s not so much that the 49ers can solve all of their problems by bringing him in, but he provides some safety/cornerback versatility that could give San Francisco some options this offseason. He’s also able to contribute on special teams.

While there will be other additions in the secondary who’ll move the needle more than Knight, it would be worthwhile for the 49ers to tap back in and give him another chance to contribute. If he can help, that would be a nice boost for a secondary that desperately needs some quality depth. If he can’t, it’s a low-risk addition that won’t have many significant ramifications for San Francisco’s offseason.

Cardinals add defensive back off 49ers practice squad

The #49ers lost a practice squad DB to the Cardinals.

The 49ers on Monday lost defensive back Qwuantrezz Knight to the Arizona Cardinals according to Matt Barrows of the Athletic.

It’s not a huge surprise the Cardinals poached the second-year undrafted free agent from San Francisco since they tried claiming him off waivers after final cuts.

Knight was a candidate to come up off the practice squad for San Francisco’s Week 2 game after they placed CB Samuel Womack on IR with a knee injury. Instead they elevated CB Tre Swilling.

The 49ers originally signed Knight as an undrafted rookie in 2022 out of UCLA. He spent all of last season on the practice squad, but now he should get an opportunity to debut in Arizona after they placed safety Budda Baker on IR.
