Cardinals have 2 player connections to Seahawks

The Seahawks have no former Cardinals on their roster. The Cardinals have two former Seahawks — S Joey Blount and DL L.J. Collier.

The Arizona Cardinals face the Seattle Seahawks this weekend on the road in Week 7. The Seahawks do not have any former Cardinals players on their roster, but the Cardinals do have a pair of former Seahawks.

One is on the active roster and the other is on injured reserve.

Safety Joey Blount is on the active roster.

He played for the Seahawks last season as an undrafted rookie out of Virginia. He played in 11 games last season, logging 175 special teams snaps and collecting eight tackles and a fumble recovery.

Defensive lineman L.J. Collier is the other former Seahawk. He is on injured reserve recovering from a torn biceps. He probably is done playing for this season.

He was a former Seattle first-round pick out of TCU and he played four seasons for the Seahawks. He signed with the Cardinals this offseason.

Cardinals sign S Joey Blount to 53-man roster, add D-lineman to practice squad

Joey Blount moves to the 53-man roster and the Cardinals add former Panthers DL Phil Hoskins to the practice squad.

The Arizona Cardinals made a few roster moves on Tuesday. The biggest one involved changing their punter, releasing Nolan Cooney and signing Blake Gillikin. They also made some practice squad moves.

They signed safety Joey Blount from the practice squad to the active roster and then signed defensive lineman Phil Hoskins to the practice squad.

Blount, a 6-foot-1, 201-pound safety, played last season for the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted rookie. The Cardinals met with him in the predraft process.

He appeared in 11 games. He had a fumble recovery on defense and eight special teams tackles.

He played collegiately for Virginia. He played in 54 games, starting 32 of them, and had 306 tackles, 21 pass breakups, 19.5 tackles for loss, nine interceptions, 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.

Hoskins was drafted in the seventh round in 2021 by the Carolina Panthers. He is 6-foot-5 and 315 lbs.

In 2021-2022, he appeared in eight games for the Panthers, logging six tackles and a sack.

He spent part of the offseason with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Seahawks reach injury settlements with two safeties

The NFL can be a cutthroat business, especially when it comes to injury.

The NFL can be a cutthroat business, especially when it comes to injury. With limited roster space, injured players on the roster bubble often find themselves looking for new NFL homes. Such is the case for a pair of safeties from the Seattle Seahawks: Joey Blount and undrafted free agent Jonathan Sutherland.

The safety room was crowded in Seattle with players like Quandre Diggs, Julian Love, and the return of Jamal Adams. With the cutting down to the final 53-man roster, the Seahawks moved on from Blount and Sutherland.

Blount played in 11 games for the Seahawks last season, but he did not make much of an impact. In those 11 games the only statistic Blount recorded was one fumble recovery. However, NFL teams are always looking for depth, so I’m sure Blount will land on his feet somewhere else in the league.

Pete Carroll: Devin Bush suffered a concussion vs. Packers

Head coach Pete Carroll told reporters Bush suffered a concussion.

The Seahawks did not escape today’s preseason finale against the Packers unscathed. They lost the game 19-15, and also suffered what sound like a few relatively minor injuries. The one possible exception there is linebacker Devin Bush, who had to leave the game after getting hurt on a punt.

After it was over, head coach Pete Carroll told reporters Bush suffered a concussion. He also says safety Joey Blount left with a shoulder injury.

Bush was expected to take over the starting inside linebacker spot next to Bobby Wagner when the season started.

However, Jordyn Brooks recently was activated from the PUP list and appears to be ready to resume his duties – Carroll told reporters after the game he’d be “shocked” if Brooks isn’t playing Week 1 against the Rams.
