A lot of the attention around Michigan State Basketball’s recruiting victories of late have been focused on Emoni Bates and Max Christie, but don’t sleep on Pierre Brooks II. The MSU 4-star commit has been tearing it up for Douglass Academy this season, absolutely putting on a show that Michigan State fans should be very, very excited about.

Michigan State Basketball 2021 4-star commit Pierre Brooks II has been tearing it up for Douglass Academy. He is currently ranked the No. 66 player in the country in the 2021 class, but one Nike scout thinks he might be ranked even higher if more scouts were able to come watch him play in person.

Vince Baldwin, who is a Nike Basketball Scout, an NBA Consultant, and an NCAA Certified Recruiting analyst went on Twitter on Wednesday night to praise Pierre Brooks. Brooks had just put up 45 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in a win for Detroit Fredrick Douglass last night.

Here is what Baldwin said about the future Spartan:

4-star point guard Jaden Akins jumped 13 spots to No. 48 overall. 4-star shooting guard Pierre Brooks jumped nine spots to No. 69. They had two of the biggest jumps in the entire class. They are the two highest rated players in the state of Michigan for their class, by a wide margin.

Michigan State basketball 2021 recruiting class No. 1 in Big Ten in 247Sports rankings

Michigan State basketball’s 2021 recruiting class now ranks number one in the Big Ten according to 247Sports rankings.

[jwplayer K4RfqWdU-er0jUifI]

Michigan State basketball recently landed the commitment of 4-star PG Jaden Akins out of Farmington, MI. As a result, the Spartans now have the no. 1 ranked 2021 recruiting class in the Big Ten according to 247Sports updated recruitment rankings.

The other top-5 2021 recruiting rankings in the Big Ten are Ohio State, Michigan, Northwestern, and Wisconsin.

MSU pulling ahead of Big Ten foes is no surprise. The Spartans have two 4-star Guards and one 5-star Guard coming in 2021. Now, imagine what this recruiting class looks like if Emoni Bates actually reclassifies.

Note, just last month MSU’s 2021 recruiting class ranked no. 5 in July and now ranks no. 4 according to 247Sports recruiting rankings.

Michigan State makes top six for 2021 point guard Jaden Akins

The Spartans are considered the favorites to land the four-star prospect from Farmington.

One of Michigan State’s top remaining 2021 recruiting targets has put the Spartans in his top six.

Farmington point guard Jaden Akins listed MSU in his top six with Michigan, Florida, DePaul, Northwestern, and Mississippi State.

Akins, a four-star player, is rated as the No. 71 prospect in the country by the 247Sports composite rankings. He is the number two player in the state of Michigan behind current MSU commit Pierre Brooks. The Spartans are heavily favored to land the springy six-foot-three PG, as all ten of the analyst predictions between 247Sports and Rivals are for MSU.

Michigan State’s 2021 recruiting class–consisting of the aforementioned Brooks and five-star shooting guard Max Christe–is currently ranked No. 5 in the country, but could jump to the top spot if Akins does indeed go green.

Michigan State Basketball’s recruiting efforts have been dubbed by success by every fan and every metric available. So far, the Spartans have two highly talented recruits coming into the 2021 class in 5-star SG Max Christie & 4-star PG Pierre Brooks.

After some recent movement, MSU’s 2021 recruiting class now ranks No. 5 in the updated 247Sports 2021 basketball team rankings.

247Sports ranks two Big Ten teams ahead of MSU in Northwestern and Michigan, then ranks Louisville No. 2 and USC No. 1.

Michigan State’s 2021 recruiting class has the only 5-star commit right now among the top ten other recruiting classes. Furthermore, MSU’s average 247Sports recruiting score of 98.36 is higher than any other top ten class.

There will likely be another addition to the Spartan’s 2021 basketball recruiting class. We’ll just have to wait and see what that addition looks like.

Five-star 2021 shooting guard Max Christie commits to Michigan State

The top-15 prospect picks MSU over heavy recruitment from Duke, Illinois, Northwestern and many others.

Tom Izzo is on a heater.

One week after securing the commitment of five-star super recruit Emoni Bates, Izzo and the Spartans landed another five-star pledge from Rolling Meadows (Ill.) shooting guard Max Christie.

Christie announced his decision on a Twitter interview with Andy Katz of Fox and Big Ten Network.

Christie told Katz that his relationship with Izzo was a big factor in his pledge. “My relationship with coach Izzo, I felt like it was great. I felt like it was a place where I was needed and a place that I wanted to go to.”

Christie also said he and his family enjoyed the process of going through virtual visits because they could include his family and the entire coaching staff. MSU is the only school Christie took an official visit to with COVID-19 shutting down visits. He was on campus for a weekend to watch Michigan State beat Ohio State on senior day.

Christie, listed at 6-foot-6, is ranked by the 247Sports composite rankings as the top player in Illinois, the top shooting guard in the nation, and the No. 13 overall recruit in the country. Christie chose the Spartans over co-favorites Virginia, Villanova, Purdue and Ohio State among many other offers. Duke was thought to be in the lead for much of Christie’s recruitment, but Izzo and co. were able to complete the turnaround the last handful of months.

Christie is the fifth-highest ranked recruit Tom Izzo has secured in the “composite rankings” era (post-2002) behind Bates, Shannon Brown, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Miles Bridges.

On his 247Sports plater evaluation, Christie is–funnily enough–compared to Gary Harris, who spent two years with MSU before being drafted in the NBA lottery by the Denver Nuggets.

Of Christie, recruiting analyst Brian Snow writes, “He has good size and length, and while he needs to get stronger, that will come in time. Right now is at his best as a shooter, where his height and long arms allow him to shoot over nearly every defender. But if a bigger player is on him, he is also athletic enough and good enough with the dribble to go past them. A highly skilled prospect who can play anywhere on the perimeter. Hard worker who shows tremendous IQ on the court. Has the making of being an impact wing at the college level and a first-round NBA draft choice.”

Snow projects Christie as an eventual first-round draft pick.

Christie is technically the second player in the 2021 class to pick MSU. Fellow shooting/combo guard Pierre Brooks committed to the Spartans back in April. Although Bates is right now in the class of 2022, there is thought that he will reclassify and join the class of 2021, which would make that class Izzo’s best ever.

Max may not be the only Christie to don the green and white. MSU has an offer out to Max’s younger brother Cam, a class of 2023 prospect.

Michigan State Basketball 2021 Commit Pierre Brooks rises in Rivals150 rankings

Michigan State Basketball 2021 Commit Pierre Brooks skyrocketed to a new ranking in the most recent Rivals150 rankings list.

[jwplayer cwRwWfAA]

2021 4-star Guard Pierre Brooks committed to Michigan State for in April after a virtual visit.  Originally, Rivals150 ranked Brooks as the No. 109 prospect in the country for the 2021 recruiting class. In the most recent Rivals150, Brooks skyrockets all the way to the No. 75 ranking.

Brooks is a 6-foot-6 guard and weighs 205 pounds. He currently plays for Frederick Douglass High School in Detroit, MI.

Brooks’ offense is so well balanced and impressive. He boasts plenty of dribble moves, he can get to the rim, and he can create his own shot. All the while, he makes smart passes and finds open teammates.

4-star 2020 Guard AJ Hoggard may still be around by the time Brooks arrives at the campus in East Lansing. Michigan State’s backcourt will have some solid depth for the next few years.

MSU signee Pierre Brooks named All-State in division two by Detroit Free Press

A number of MSU targets also found themselves among the all-state teams.

Michigan State commit Pierre Brooks has been named first-team All-State by the Detroit Free Press.

The Free Press released their Dream Team and All-State teams earlier this weeks and Brooks was among the five players listed on the division two first team. Brooks averaged 23.2 points, 7 rebounds, 4.7 assists during his junior season for Detroit Douglass.

Brooks, a four-star shooting guard and top 100 prospect in the class of 2021, committed to Michigan State on April 22.

Brooks was also named first-team all-state by the Detroit News in April

Potential MSU recruits also featured heavily on the rest of the list. Sophomore Emoni Bates made the Dream Team after being named the Gatorade Notional Player of the Year. Farmington guard Jaden Akins, another top 100 prospect currently predicted to join MSU’s 2021 class, was named second-team All-State in division one.
