Report: Jalen Carter visits pair of NFL teams ahead of draft

Georgia Bulldogs defensive tackle Jalen Carter is visiting two NFL teams ahead of the 2023 NFL draft

Georgia Bulldogs defensive tackle Jalen Carter is visiting the Chicago Bears ahead of the 2023 NFL draft. Carter has taken a visit with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, disclosed Carter will not visit teams picking outside of the top 10 ahead of the draft.

The Chicago Bears have the No. 9 pick. Chicago traded back with the Carolina Panthers after originally having the top selection in the draft. The Philadelphia Eagles have the No. 10 pick. Philadelphia drafted two of Carter’s college teammates, defensive tackle Jordan Davis and linebacker Nakobe Dean, last year.

Carter reportedly plans to attend the draft. Carter has had off the field issues this offseason that have dropped his NFL draft stock. Numerous draft scouts previously considered Carter to be the No. 1 prospect in the draft, but now he is expected to be picked after several quarterbacks and potentially a few defenders.

The 2023 NFL draft will be held in Kansas City, Missouri, from April 27-29. ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted Carter’s pair of visits and his plans to only visit teams picking in the top 10 selections:

Watch: Philadelphia Eagles rookies Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean give special breakdown

Eagles rookies Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean are all smiles…

Georgia football draft picks, now Philadelphia Eagles rookies, Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean, are all smiles during a tour of NFL Films.

You can watch their breakdown here.

Davis, the No. 13 overall pick in this year’s draft, is coming off one of the best seasons we’ve ever seen from an interior Georgia defensive lineman.

The Charlotte, N.C., native’s trophy list speaks for itself: 2021 Outland Trophy, 2021 Chuck Bednarik Award Winner, 2021 All-America First Team, All-SEC First Team.

Teammate Dean, a Horn Lake, Miss., native was arguably just as good as the mind and motor of UGA’s record-breaking defense. Although he dropped to the No. 83 overall pick thanks to false health rumors. Dean’s trophy case is something to note as well: 2021 Butkus Award Winner All-America First Team, Captain, 2021 AFCA Good Works Team, All-SEC First Team.

Both Davis and Dean will have an opportunity to play key roles on the Eagles defense.

The Charlotte, N.C., native had an incredible season for UGA, racking up Outland Trophy and Chuck Bednarik Award honors along with first team All- American and All-SEC mentions.

Davis backed a great season up with an incredible combine performance that vaulted him into a top-20 draft pick.

Former Georgia Bulldog great joins SEC Network

Former Georgia Bulldog standout Brandon Boykin will be joining ESPN’s SEC Network on the new show Thinking Out Loud

Former Georgia Bulldog standout Brandon Boykin will be joining ESPN’s SEC Network on the new show Thinking Out Loud this upcoming season. Boykin will be on the air next Monday after the opening week of SEC football.

Boykin played football at the University of Georgia from 2008-2011. He finished his career at UGA with nine interceptions. Boykin is one of the better cornerbacks in Georgia history.

Before attending Georgia, Boykin played high school football and basketball for Fayette County High School.

Following his career with the Georgia Bulldogs, Boykin was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. Boykin had an impressive season for the Eagles in 2013, where he intercepted six passes including a key pick against the Dallas Cowboys.

In 2015, Boykin was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 5th round pick. Following time with Pittsburgh, Boykin had short stints for the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, and Baltimore Ravens, where he frequently and unfortunately ended the season on injured reserve.

Now, Boykin will be an intriguing member of the SEC media. It’s always good to see a little Georgia Bulldog bias in the media. Georgia fans have enjoyed this for a longtime with former UGA star David Pollack.

Congratulations to Boykin, who should do well for the SEC Network. He announced the move via Twitter:

Philadelphia Eagles sign Elijah Holyfield to practice squad

The former Georgia Bulldogs running back has now signed with the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad.

The Philadelphia Eagles cut Elijah Holyfield before the NFL roster deadline. The former Georgia Bulldogs running back has now signed with their practice squad.

Eagles running backs Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, and Corey Clement made the roster over Holyfield. Holyfield will have to be patient on the practice squad. Injuries at the running back position are quite common and with additional players possibly missing time with COVID-19, Holyfield may get his shot.

Holyfield played college football for three seasons at the University of Georgia. He is in his second year in the NFL, but hasn’t seen much playing time. He has zero career NFL carries in stints with both the Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles.

Holyfield was undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft and signed as a free agent with the Carolina Panthers. Much like this season, he made their practice squad after being cut last year and signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 31, 2019 after his contract with the Panthers expired.

Now, per Thomas Petersen, Holyfield will be on his next NFL practice squad. Holyfield impressed in training camp.

Elijah Holyfield is the son of legendary boxer Evander Holyfield.

Philadelphia Eagles cut former Georgia Bulldogs RB

The Philadelphia Eagles have made a dozen roster cuts ahead of the upcoming NFL roster deadline including former UGA RB Elijah Holyfield.

The Philadelphia Eagles have made a dozen roster cuts ahead of the upcoming NFL roster deadline. Unfortunately, for Georgia Bulldogs fans, former running back Elijah Holyfield did not make the roster.

Holyfield played for three seasons at the University of Georgia. He is entering into his second year in the NFL, but hasn’t seen much playing time. He has zero NFL carries in his career.

Holyfield was undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft and signed as a free agent with the Carolina Panthers. He made their practice squad after being cut Sept. 1 last year and eventually signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 31, 2019 after his contract with the Panthers expired.

Here’s what Eagles Wire had to say about his cut and Holyfield’s future hopes with the Eagles.

Elijah Holyfield made strides and had a solid camp but with the Eagles focused on running backs who are talented pass catchers, Holyfield is likely to land on the practice squad.

Being a pass-catching running back, who is versatile is essential in the modern NFL. Holyfield will look to get another opportunity following an injury. Injuries at running back are almost guaranteed in today’s NFL. Additionally, Holyfield could make a roster if a team has several cases of COVID-19.
