Pittsburgh Penguins at Boston Bruins odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at Boston Bruins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (29-12-5) and Boston Bruins (27-9-12) tangle at TD Garden at 7 p.m. ET Thursday. We analyze the Penguins-Bruins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Penguins at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Matt Murray vs. Jaroslav Halak

Murray is riding a three-game winning streak. He is 13-6-4 on the season with a .896 save percentage and 2.91 goals against average, but may finally be starting to round back into form after losing playing time to backup Tristan Jarry.

Starter Tuukka Rask was knocked out of Tuesday’s start at the Columbus Blue Jackets in the opening minutes of the first period after a violent collision with Emil Bemstrom. Head coach Bruce Cassidy normally likes to rotate his goaltenders, so Halak was likely to make this start anyway. Halak allowed three goals on 27 shots in the loss, playing 58:48, so it’s uncertain if Cassidy turns to Rask if he is cleared.

Penguins at Bruins: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10:25 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Penguins 4, Bruins 2

Moneyline (ML)

The PENGUINS (+115) are a solid play on the road. Pittsburgh has won five straight on the road and 18 of its last 24 games overall. The Bruins (-139) have managed wins in just three of the past 10 games at home, and they’re 1-4 in the past five against Metropolitan Division foes.

New to sports betting? Every $10 wagered for the Penguins to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout would profit $11.50 if they do so.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Penguins (+1.5, -239) should be avoided. If you want insurance, they’re not worth playing, as they’ll cost you nearly two and a half times your return on investment. The Bruins (-1.5, +195) are a nice play at double money if you’re feeling the home side. I’m not, though. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-134) has cashed in four in a row for the Pens, and four of the past five on the road. The Over is also 5-0 in Pittsburgh’s past five against teams with a winning overall mark, too. The Over is 3-1-1 in Boston’s past five games overall while going 10-2 in the past 12 meetings in this series and 5-1 in the previous six battles at TD Garden.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Vegas Golden Knights odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at Vegas Golden Knights sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (25-12-5) and Vegas Golden Knights (24-15-6) tangle at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas at 10 p.m. ET Tuesday. We analyze the Penguins-Golden Knights sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Penguins at Golden Knights: Projected starting goalies

Matt Murray vs. Marc-Andre Fleury

Murray has posted a 12-6-4 record, 2.92 goals against average and .896 save percentage with one shutout. He’ll get a chance to go up against his former teammate, and the man he replaced in the Steel City.

Fleury enters with an 18-8-3 record, 2.79 GAA and .910 SV% with two shutouts. One of those shutouts came Oct. 19 back in Pittsburgh in a 3-0 victory, as he turned aside all 29 shots he faced.

Penguins at Golden Knights: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 8:20 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Golden Knights 4, Penguins 2

Moneyline (ML)

The GOLDEN KNIGHTS (-154) are favored a home, as Fleury and Vegas look for the season sweep. It will be a tough test, as the Penguins (+125) are 5-1 in the past six games on the road, 11-4 in the past 15 overall and 5-0 in the past five against winning teams. Vegas has been hot, too, winning four in a row at home, four in a row overall and, for what it’s worth, the Golden Knights are a perfect 7-0 in their past seven on a Tuesday.

New to sports betting? Every $1.54 wagered on the Golden Knights ML will profit $1 if they prevail.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

While I expect the Knights (-1.5, +155) to take care of business, betting the puck line is not good business in a marquee battle like this. It’s awfully tempting at 1.55 times the return. It’s still a risky play with two good teams. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-115) is worth a small-unit bet. The number has gone Over in five of VGK’s past six overall, and four of the past five at home. While the Under is 13-6 in Pittsburgh’s past 19 as an underdog, the Over is 7-3 in the past 10 against teams with a winning overall mark.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Edmonton Oilers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at Edmonton Oilers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (20-10-4) visit the Edmonton Oilers (19-14-4) Friday at Rogers Place for a 9 p.m. ET puck drop. We analyze the Penguins-Oilers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Penguins at Oilers: Projected starting goalies

Matt Murray vs. Mike Smith

Murray is 10-5-4 with an .897 save percentage and 2.85 goals against average. He stopped 25 of 28 shots in a win over the Detroit Red Wings his last time out, but hasn’t played since Dec. 7 due to the tremendous run backup Tristan Jarry has been on of late.

Smith has also been off for more than a week. He gave up six goals on 26 shots Dec. 12. He is 7-8-2 with an .896 SV% and 3.08 GAA.

Penguins at Oilers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 11 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Oilers 5, Penguins 3

Moneyline (ML)

The Penguins (-134) have won three straight, including a 4-1 win at the Calgary Flames Tuesday. The Oilers (+110) fell 2-1 at the St. Louis Blues Wednesday and have dropped five of their last six. The Penguins remain without captain Sidney Crosby.

Take the value with the OILERS (+110). They’re 8-6-3 on home ice and getting plus-money. The Pens are just 6-6-2 on the road and shouldn’t be such heavy favorites against Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Co.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Get a little insurance by backing the OILERS (+1.5, -250) to stay within 1 goal in a loss or to win outright, albeit as a much less profitable play than the plus-money on the moneyline. The Oilers are 18-19 ATS for the season but just 4-13 at home, while the Pens are 16-18 ATS overall and 8-6 on the road. Plus, three of the Oilers’ last five losses were by just single tallies.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 5.5 (-139) with too rusty goaltenders expected to start. The two teams combine to average 6.18 goals for per game with 5.65 goals allowed per game.

Esten’s NHL betting record: 136-106

Los Angeles Kings at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Los Angeles Kings at Pittsburgh Penguins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Los Angeles Kings (13-18-2) and Pittsburgh Penguins (18-10-4) tussle in the Steel City at 7 p.m. ET Saturday. We analyze the Kings-Penguins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Kings at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

Jonathan Quick vs. Tristan Jarry

Quick picked up a victory over the Anaheim Ducks Thursday, and he has back-to-back wins with just one goal allowed in each outing. He didn’t allow a goal until the final minute in his game Tuesday against the New York Rangers, a power-play tally with an extra attacker. The Under is 6-0 in Quick’s past six appearances.

Jarry picked up a shutout last time out against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and he has three shutouts across his past four starts. Overall, he is 8-5-0 with a 1.76 goals against average and .941 save percentage. It’s possible Matt Murray makes an appearance in this one, but it’s hard to imagine the Pens will go away from Jarry while he’s running hot.

Kings at Penguins: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Penguins 4, Kings 1

Moneyline (ML)

The Penguins (-228) are too expensive on the moneyline, and the Kings (+185) aren’t a good play on the road against a difficult opponent. PASS, and look to the puck line instead.

New to sports betting? Every $10 wagered for the Penguins to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout would profit $4.40 if they do so.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

PENGUINS (-1.5, +125) is a great play on home ice. In four of their past five victories at home, the Pens have won by 2 or more goals, so roll the dice on a puck-line win and avoid the high risk of the moneyline.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (+115) is a nice play at plus-money. The Under is 7-2-1 in the past 10 on the road for the Kings, and 6-2-1 in their past nine as a dog away from home. The Under has connected in four of the past five for Pittsburgh, too, while going 23-8-1 in the past 32 games at home for the Pens.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and best bets

Analyzing Saturday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at Detroit Red Wings NHL matchup, with NHL betting odds, picks and best bets

The Pittsburgh Penguins (16-9-4) and Detroit Red Wings (7-20-3) do battle Saturday evening at 7 p.m. ET at Little Caesars Arena in Hockeytown. We analyze the Penguins-Red Wings sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Penguins at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Matt Murray vs. Jimmy Howard

Murray is expected to get the start Saturday after Tristan Jarry posted a shutout Friday night, his second straight. There is a goaltender controversy in the Steel City, and Murray needs a big performance to keep Jarry from continuing to carve into his role. Murray is 9-5-4 with a 2.84 goals-against average and .897 save percentage with one shutout.

Howard has been terrible, going 2-11-1 with a 3.94 GAA and .887 save percentage, as he comes in on an 0-6-1 skid while allowing three or more goals in six of the past seven outings.

Penguins at Red Wings: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10:05 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Penguins 5, Red Wings 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Penguins (-209) are expensive, and even with Murray in there instead of the red-hot Jarry, they should have enough against the Red Wings (+170). Still, you can’t give twice as much as your return. That’s just not good business.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The PENGUINS (-1.5, +125) are an attractive play against the sieve known as Howard. In the past three wins by the Pens, they have also covered the puck line, so feel confident laying the goal and a half.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-150) will cost you quite a bit of juice, but you’re not going to have to worry about it. Howard has been terrible, and the Penguins will pepper him. In fact, they might be able to take care of the over themselves.

Arizona Coyotes at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and best bets

Analyzing the Arizona Coyotes at Pittsburgh Penguins Friday NHL matchup, with NHL betting odds, picks and best bets

The Arizona Coyotes (17-9-4) visit the Pittsburgh Penguins (15-9-4) at Nationwide Arena Friday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Coyotes-Penguins odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Coyotes at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

Antti Raanta vs. Matt Murray

Raanta is expected to start and has a 5-3-2 record with a 2.66 goals against average and a .924 save percentage. Raanta suffered a tough loss in San Jose last Saturday stopping 26 of 29 shots.

Murray has a 9-5-4 record with a 2.84 GAA and a .897 SV%, with one shutout on the year. The Pittsburgh goaltender is projected in net and has not played since November 30th, when he allowed five goals on just 27 shots in a road defeat to St. Louis.

Coyotes at Penguins: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Penguins 4, Coyotes 2

Moneyline (ML)

The PENGUINS (-189) are the rested team Friday night going up against one of the best road teams in the NHL (Arizona 10-3-3 road mark). Pittsburgh counters with an 11-3-2 home record. Also, there is a possibility Pittsburgh may have Bryan Rust and Jordan Schultz back from injury (both game-time decisions). Take the Penguins.

A $10 bet with Pittsburgh results in a $5.29 profit with an outright win over the Coyotes.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Penguins are just 12-16 ATS, while the Coyotes are best in the NHL at 20-10. However, the Coyotes are the underdogs (+1.5, -182) and that does not look appealing. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (EVEN) is worth a small bet. The Over has connected in two of the previous three meetings between the teams. Also, Pittsburgh averages 3.5 goals per game at home, while Arizona averages 2.69 goals per contest on the road.

Placing a $10 bet here will earn a $10.00 profit with a total of six or more goals scored.

Pittsburgh Penguins at St. Louis Blues odds, picks and best bets

The Pittsburgh Penguins (14-8-4) travel to face the St. Louis Blues (16-5-6) at Enterprise Center Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. We analyze the Penguins-Blues odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Penguins at Blues: Projected starting goalies

Matt Murray vs. Jordan Binnington

Murray has a 9-4-4 record for Pittsburgh with a 2.72 goals against average and .901 save percentage. Murray was rested Friday night to start against St. Louis. He attempts to rebound after getting pulled against the Vancouver Canucks Wednesday night after allowing four goals on 14 shots.

Binnington has 12 wins in 20 starts (12-4-4). He was rested for Jake Allen Friday. Overall, he has a 2.27 GAA with a .925 save percentage. Binnington won his last start against the Tampa Bay Lightning, stopping 32 of 35 shots in a 4-3 win.

Prediction

Blues 3, Penguins 2

Moneyline (ML)

The BLUES (-129) and Penguins both played Friday night so this is a textbook “sludge” matchup. At least St. Louis is the home team and mostly explains why they are a small favorite on the moneyline. Also, Binnington has shown better form than Murray of late.

A $10 bet with St. Louis results in a $7.75 profit with an outright win for the Blues.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Both teams are under .500 against the spread. Pittsburgh is 11-15 while St. Louis is 12-14. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (+125) carries some risk but does have a solid plus number worthy of a small wager. St. Louis tends to play more defensive on the back end of back-to-backs. The wise move is to take the Under and try not to overthink it.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a $12.50 profit with a total of five or fewer goals scored.

New Jersey Devils at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s New Jersey Devils at Pittsburgh Penguins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (11-7-4) entertain the division rival New Jersey Devils (7-9-4) at PPG Paints Arena Friday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Devils-Penguins odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Devils at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

MacKenzie Blackwood vs. Tristan Jarry

Blackwood is expected to start again for the Devils. He is 7-5-3 with a 2.95 goals against average and .899 save percentage. Blackwood took the home loss Tuesday against Boston after allowing five goals on just 28 shots.

Jarry is projected to get the start Friday in New Jersey. He has a 2-3 record for Pittsburgh with a 1.98 GAA and .938 SV%. Jarry has looked great in his backup role and came up clutch against Toronto last week while turning away 32 of 33 shots in a win.

Devils at Penguins: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 7:55 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Penguins 3, Devils 2

Moneyline (ML)

The PENGUINS (-189) are dealing with far more injuries than the Devils. They are without C Sidney Crosby, D Kris Letang, plus F Nick Bjugstad — just to name a few of the injured. Despite this, they nearly beat the New York Islanders Thursday night. It is anyone’s guess as to how New Jersey comes out after their poor performance at home against the Boston Bruins.

It will be a back and forth contest but Pittsburgh ultimately wins this one late.

A $10 bet with Pittsburgh results in a $5.29 profit with an outright win for the Penguins.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Devils are 7-13 against the spread which is dead last in the entire NHL. Their style of play typically is the culprit. Also, the Penguins are so banged up that expecting them to win by two or more goals is a lot to ask for. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (+125) is a bit of a risky play but considering the two teams combined for just three goals last week in their first meeting, it’s the right move. Usually, New Jersey hits the Over in Pittsburgh but with both sides a bit down offensively, it is worth a shot.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a decent $12.50 profit with a total of five or fewer goals scored.

Maple Leafs-Penguins odds: Pittsburgh favored at home

Previewing the Toronto Maple Leafs at Pittsburgh Penguins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis and picks.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (10-7-2) entertain the Toronto Maple Leafs (9-8-4) at PPG Paints Arena Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Maple Leafs-Penguins odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Maple Leafs at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

Kasimir Kaskisuo vs. Tristan Jarry

Kaskisuo is confirmed to get the start Saturday in Pittsburgh. This is his NHL debut for Toronto. He has a 6-1-1 record for Toronto with a 2.13 goals against average and .928 save percentage for the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

Jarry is expected to start for the Penguins. He is 1-3 with a 2.26 GAA and .929 SV%. Jarry took the loss (two goals on 14 shots) in his last appearance after Matt Murray got a quick hook in Boston. He has three quality starts in four outings.

Maple Leafs at Penguins: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10:15 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Penguins 3, Maple Leafs 2

Moneyline (ML)

The PENGUINS (-115) are dealing with new line combinations due to injuries but defensively are playing better at home where they yield just 2.2 goals per game. Toronto may benefit from a little more defense being played which should keep them in this game.

It will be a somewhat slower-paced game at times because both teams played last night but Pittsburgh should squeeze out a win.

A $10 bet with Pittsburgh results in an $8.70 profit with a Penguins’ win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Both teams are notoriously bad against the spread this year. Toronto is 8-13 and Pittsburgh is 7-12. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 6.5 (-139) is a reasonable play Saturday night. That 6.5 number is rather high given both teams were in high-event games Friday. Pittsburgh pushed play particularly hard in the third period and was nearly rewarded (over 30 shot attempts alone). The result should mean five or six goals combined perhaps.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a decent $7.19 profit with a total of six or more goals scored.

Previewing Friday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at New Jersey Devils sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis and picks.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (10-6-2) travel to Newark to face the division rival New Jersey Devils (5-8-4) at Prudential Center Friday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Penguins-Devils odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Penguins at Devils: Projected starting goalies

Matt Murray vs. MacKenzie Blackwood

Murray is projected to get the start Friday in New Jersey. He has a 9-3-2 record for Pittsburgh with a 2.39 goals against average and .914 save percentage. Murray has looked decent of late, allowing eight goals on his last 81 shots faced while winning two of his previous three starts.

Blackwood is confirmed to start again for the Devils. He is 5-4-3 with a 2.94 GAA and .895 save percentage. Blackwood took the home loss Wednesday against Ottawa after yielding three goals on 24 shots.

Prediction

Penguins 4, Devils 3

Moneyline (ML)

The PENGUINS (-139) are dealing with far more injuries than the Devils. They are without C Sidney Crosby and D Kris Letang, and yet, are still road favorites Friday night. New Jersey gives up 3.78 goals per game at home and has a porous penalty kill.

It will be a high-event and chaotic game but take the Penguins on the moneyline.

A $10 bet with Pittsburgh results in a $7.19 profit with a Penguins’ win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Devils are 5-12 against the spread which is dead last in the entire NHL. Part of the problem is their style of play which just does not lead to convincing victories. Most of their games are decided by one goal or include an empty-net tally. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-154) is a safe play Friday night. That 5.5 number just makes for an easier bet with a little less profit. Do not overthink this one. There will be goals.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a decent $6.49 profit with a total of six or more goals scored.
