WATCH: Paris Johnson Ohio State pro day recap

Spend a few minutes of your time with a recap and behind-the-scenes look at Paris Johnson Jr.’s Ohio State pro day.

The Ohio State creative team has been providing us with some offseason content to help us through the college football void. One of the things we’ve gotten a peek at is some behind-the-scenes looks at some of the players that are expected to be taken high in the upcoming draft, and a little recap of their OSU pro days.

We’ve already seen recaps of quarterback C.J. Stroud and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and we now get a look behind the curtain at what things were like for offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr.

These video productions are fun to take in because they provide some exclusive looks you otherwise wouldn’t get to see. Do yourself a favor and spend about four minutes of your time looking at the journey of Johnson from prep, to the on-field workout and more.

All of this will culminate in the upcoming 2023 NFL draft where three players are expected to go in the first round and will be in attendance in Kansas City. More will go beyond that throughout the seven rounds of the annual spectacle. We’ll have more leading up to the draft and beyond.

These are the players expected to attend first night of 2023 NFL draft

Here are the 17 prospects expected to attend the first night of the 2023 NFL draft.

With only two weeks away from the 2023 NFL draft, the NFL announced the 17 players expected to attend the first night on Thursday. The draft festivities are slated to kick off on April 27 in Kansas City with the star attendees being projected first-round picks.

Some of the names on the list have popped up in multiple mock drafts as potential options for the New England Patriots, who will have the highest pick they’ve had in nearly 15 years at No. 14 overall.

The positions to keep an eye on for the Patriots is cornerback, wide receiver, safety, offensive tackle and tight end.

Here are the players expected to attend the first night of the draft:

Three Ohio State players to attend NFL draft in person

Ohio State and Alabama will lead all teams with three players each in attendance at the 2023 NFL draft. #GoBucks

You know it by now. If there’s an NFL draft going on, there is going to be a lot of scarlet and gray associated with it. That’s because the Ohio State football program has churned out NFL widgets at a pace hardly any college can match over the years. Especially, if we’re talking about first-round draft picks where the Buckeyes tend to outpace everyone throughout recent history.

The 2023 version of the NFL draft looks to be no different. There are three Ohio State players most scouts, executives, and NFL mock drafts believe will go during the first round of the draft. And now … we know that those three players will be in attendance in Kansas City hoping to hear their names called so they can walk across the stage and give NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell a big bear hug.

You can probably guess the three Buckeyes that will be sitting all dapper with their phones in the green room, but just in case, we’re here to confirm it for you. Quarterback C.J. Stroud, offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr., and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba will all be attending the NFL draft in person, so get your popcorn ready.

I’d say it speaks pretty loudly that there are only 17 players attending the draft in person, and three of them honed their skills in Columbus. This feels like a pretty good time to remind everyone that Michigan has as many attending the draft as my family does. Zero.

The Xs and Os with Greg Cosell: Non-negotiable skills for QB, OT, EDGE, CB in the draft

In the debut of “The Xs and Os with Greg Cosell and Doug Farrar,” Greg and Doug discuss the non-negotiables for draft prospects at QB, OT, EDGE, and CB.

In this new show, Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar is joined every week by the great Greg Cosell of NFL Films and ESPN’s NFL Matchup. Greg has been with NFL Films since 1979, and he and Steve Sabol invented the concept of putting game tape on television with the Matchup show in 1984, so who better to get intricate with the game than Mr. Cosell himself?

Doug and Greg will be discussing all kinds of football things throughout the year, but as the draft is just around the corner, let’s start with the non-negotiable traits and attributes draft prospects must have at arguably the game’s four most important positions — quarterback, offensive tackle, edge-rusher, and cornerback.

Bears Wire NFL mock draft has Ohio State player to Chicago in first round

Bears Wire mocks former Buckeye to Chicago in first round #GoBucks #Bears

Our friends covering the Chicago Bears at Bears Wire have provided another interesting mock draft with another former Ohio State football player being selected in the first round. Chicago is one of the most intriguing teams to watch if you are an Ohio State fan because everyone is rooting for Justin Fields to turn the franchise around.

Our friend at Bears Wire, Nate Atkins, has been providing top-notch insight all offseason, and his most recent mock has the Bears adding arguably the best offensive tackle in the class, Paris Johnson Jr.

“A two-year starter at Ohio State, Johnson has played guard and tackle for the Buckeyes. He is 6’6 and 313 pounds and has the size and arm length of an NFL starting tackle,” said Atkins.

“In pass protection, Johnson is athletic, quick on his feet, and able to stop rushers. In the run game, he’s an asset for zone running teams who can participate in combo blocks before finding linebackers at the second level.”

It remains to be seen where Johnson Jr. will land, but we’re sure Fields would be just fine if he ended up in the Windy City.

Ohio State OT Paris Johnson Jr. says he wants to play for the Bears

Speaking on the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast, Paris Johnson Jr. listed the Bears as one of his top places he would like to play.

Offensive tackle is one of the biggest needs for the Chicago Bears heading into the 2023 NFL Draft. Fortunately for them, they should have options with their first pick at No. 9 overall to improve the position and one player is already expressing his desire to play in the navy and orange.

Ohio State tackle Paris Johnson Jr., one of the consensus top options at the position, was a guest on Barstool Sports’ “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast and was asked which teams he would most like to play for if he had the choice.

Johnson hemmed and hawed for a minute, first saying the Tennessee Titans but then named the Bears as well as the Atlanta Falcons as his top preferences.

“For me personally, the first thing I look at is state taxes,” Johnson admitted when talking about his preferences, which led him to the Titans who are picking with the No. 11 overall pick. It’s also worth noting the show’s hosts Taylor Lewan and Will Compton are both former Titans and the show itself is based out of Nashville.

He also mentioned the Miami Dolphins, but figures they don’t need a tackle and also do not have a first-round pick. Johnson then pivoted to teams he would like to play for that also would be in need of his services.

“I would say realistically who like needs a tackle, I would say Chicago,” Johnson said. “I would also say the Falcons, to be in Atlanta too that would be huge.”

The Falcons pick one spot ahead of the Bears but aren’t likely to be in demand for a tackle early in the draft. They still have former Pro Bowler Jake Matthews anchoring the left side and recently re-signed Kaleb McGary at right tackle. That would put the Bears as Johnson’s best option if he gets his wish.

Ever since general manager Ryan Poles traded down from No. 1 to No. 9 with the Carolina Panthers in early March, Johnson has been a popular pick amongst draft experts for the Bears. The Ohio State standout has met with the Bears on multiple occasions and their front office had a front row seat at his pro day in Columbus.

Johnson started two seasons as a Buckeye, playing guard in 2021 before moving to left tackle in 2022 where he earned first-team All-Big Ten honors, helping Ohio State reach the College Football Playoff. He’s projected to be one of the first offensive linemen off the board when the draft gets underway in a few weeks.
