Oklahoma Sooners predicted to land 2025 5-star offensive tackle

The Sooners are picking up momentum in the recruitment of 2025 offensive tackle Michael Fasusi.

If there’s been a big fish in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag], it’s offensive tackle [autotag]Michael Fasusi[/autotag]. As was the case for [autotag]David Stone[/autotag] in the 2024 cycle, all eyes have been on Fasusi the last couple of years.

He has been a priority target for OU and offensive line coach [autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag]. As we near Fasusi’s planned commitment date on Aug. 21, the process appears trending in a positive direction for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Late Wednesday night, Brandon Drumm of OUInsider and Rivals dropped a futurecast predicting Fasusi to land with the Oklahoma Sooners. It’s the first prediction issued by one of the major recruiting sites since April for Fasusi.

Back in March and April, it appeared the Texas Longhorns held a substantial lead in Fasusi’s recruitment. Analysts from Rivals and 247Sports placed predictions favoring Oklahoma’s Red River Rivals. But with his commitment date less than a week away, the start of the high school football season upon us and just a few months away from the early signing period, the Sooners have grabbed some momentum.

According to ESPN, he’s one of the 32 best players in the 2025 class overall, ranking as high as No. 9. 247Sports has Fasusi as the No. 27 player in the cycle and the No. 5 offensive tackle. Rivals ranks the Lewisville native as the No. 11 player in 2025 and the No. 2 offensive tackle.

It’s a key recruitment to continue to follow for Bedenbaugh and the Sooners. He’s a dynamic player who has the potential to compete for a starting role early in his collegiate career. At 6 feet, 5 inches and 295 pounds and a strong athletic profile, Fasusi has a chance to be great at the next level.

Texas Football: It’s time to stop doubting Quinn Ewers

There aren’t five college quarterbacks playing better football than Quinn Ewers.

Quinn Ewers is the real deal. If you can’t tell by now, I don’t know what would convince you.

The redshirt freshman put on a clinic against Brent Venables’ defense on Saturday. The Oklahoma defense has been bad this season, but found itself in better position to make plays against Texas. Ewers simply carved them up.

One 3rd-and-6 throw illustrates how little Oklahoma’s efforts mattered against Ewers. The talented transfer exited the pocket, rolled left and placed a football right over a defender’s outstretched arms to Bijan Robinson near the sideline.

Quinn fit the ball to Bijan just inside the left boundary. It was the type of play you live with as a defensive coordinator. Unfortunately for Oklahoma defensive coordinator Ted Roof, it’s the type of play Robinson and Ewers routinely make.

As recently as last week, former Oklahoma linebacker Teddy Lehman and others asserted that Quinn Ewers should sit and allow Hudson Card to play in his place against Oklahoma. We discussed the topic but certainly never came to that conclusion. Respectfully, no hot hand is warm enough to justify sitting a healthy Ewers.

Presently, there aren’t five quarterbacks playing better football than Quinn Ewers. He is the reason Texas is capable of a Big 12 title run. It’s time to give the quarterback his respect.

Texas football looks to get selective with 2023 recruiting class

With around seven spots left in the 2023 recruiting class, Texas can and should swing for the fence.

The Texas Longhorns head into the 2022 season with a strong foundation for their upcoming recruiting class. Presently, they sit at No. 5 in the On3 consensus class rankings with 21 commits.

With an already impressive class, Steve Sarkisian’s staff will look to add the most impactful players available.

Three Texas targets have decision dates set over the next four weeks. Cedric Baxter Jr will announce his commitment August 10, while Jordan Matthews will decide on August 15.

Texas also awaits the commitment of Jalen Hale, as they battle Alabama and Texas A&M for the elite wide receiver.

Outside of those three, there are recruitments with less certainty for Texas.

Elite corner Javien Toviano and game-changing edges Tausili Akana and Damon Wilson are a couple long-shots that could decide in Sarkisian’s favor.

Let’s look at a few players to which Texas will allocate time.
