Ohio State tight end Cade Stover had mind made up regarding 2023 season

The Buckeye tight end knows where he’ll be playing next season

The Buckeyes stars always have big decisions when they finish their third year and subsequent ones: Stay in Columbus or move on to the NFL. For tight end [autotag]Cade Stover[/autotag], it has been quite the road to find playing time.

Signed as a defensive end, Stover started his career there. Then came the position changes, first to tight end and then to linebacker, where he finished the 2021 season. He returned to tight end this year and finally had a chance to shine. Stover caught 36 passes for 406 yards and five touchdowns, which surely caught the eye of many NFL teams.

However, the next level will have to wait. Stover announced on Monday that he is returning to [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag].

This is a big time win for head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag]. There is no doubt Stover would have been drafted, but how early was the biggest question. Now with another year of production under his belt, the former Mr. Ohio will have another season of film to impress NFL teams.

His presence was missed against Georgia. After Stover went out with a hip injury, the offense seemed a bit off. Having him back for the 2023 season is a big bonus.

Thoughts on Ohio State’s signees after All-American Bowl

These seven were very impressive

The Buckeyes were very well represented at the [autotag]All-American Bowl[/autotag] on Saturday afternoon. [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] had the most players of any school in the country playing in the game, seven, and each of them got their opportunity to play.

Some shined a bit brighter due to being a focal point of the East and West’s offense. Keep in mind, this is an all-star game, the coaches try to get everyone playing time so it’s  bit scarce.

It was still a very impressive showing for Buckeyes who will be on campus soon. The future is very bright with these seven and here are some thoughts on each of their performances during the All-American Bowl.

Kienholz again, Ohio State signee throws second touchdown during All-American Bowl

Make it two for Lincoln #GoBucks

One, two, three, four. That’s how many touchdowns future [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] Buckeyes scored on Saturday in the All-American Bowl.

The first two were from receivers, [autotag]Brandon Inniss[/autotag] and [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag]. The final two were courtesy of quarterback [autotag]Lincoln Kienholz[/autotag]. His first was a scramble and throw. On the second, the dual-threat had a clean pocket and threw a dart to his receiver for a 38-yard scoring strike.

The ball was perfectly placed to [autotag]TCU[/autotag] signee [autotag]Cordale Russell[/autotag], who was hit in stride into the end zone. The game was obviously out of hand before this score, but it still showed to [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] that Kienholz can do everything at the position.

A very good showing for future Buckeyes, as they were part of 28 out of 65 total points during the game.

Watch: Ohio State quarterback signee Lincoln Kienholz throws touchdown in All-American Bowl

Lincoln Kienholz shows off his athleticism and arm strength #GoBucks

The West squad struggled for much of the [autotag]All-American Bowl[/autotag]. It had not scored a touchdown midway through the third quarter. [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] signee [autotag]Lincoln Kienholz[/autotag] put an end to that.

The quarterback scrambled out of the pocket, set his feet while squaring his shoulders and unloaded a pass that went about 50 yards for a touchdown.

The South Dakota native is a true dual-threw option for Ohio State head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag], who is showing why the Buckeyes went after him even while he was committed to [autotag]Washington[/autotag]. Kienholz is the third Buckeye to score a touchdown in this game, following wide receivers [autotag]Brandon Inniss[/autotag] and [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag].

The Buckeye signees are putting on a show at the All-American Bowl.

Watch: Ohio State signee WR Carnell Tate catches touchdown pass in All-American Bowl

Tate has star potential and showed it again #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] doesn’t have just one star receiver on his way to Columbus during this off-season, it has multiple star receivers. One of them scored earlier in the [autotag]All-American Bowl[/autotag], [autotag]Brandon Inniss[/autotag], and another, [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag], joined him.

Tate has been targeted plenty by [autotag]UCLA[/autotag] signee [autotag]Dante Moore[/autotag]. He is having a solid game, but he put an exclamation point on his performance with this second quarter catch. Moore found Tate streaking over the middle of the field, threw a great ball that the future Buckeye caught and ran into the end zone for a 29-yard touchdown strike. It was a big time play by Tate.

The play went for 29-yards and surely confirmed what Ohio State head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and wide receivers coach [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag] saw during Tate’s recruitment. It’s a position room that is deep and talented.

Watch: Ohio State signee Brandon Inniss catches TD pass in All-American Bowl

The future Buckeye is showcasing his talents early in the all-star game

The Buckeyes aren’t short on wide receiver talent on campus and what is coming to Columbus as well. Wide receivers coach [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag] has earned a reputation of developing receivers and sending them off to the NFL which has translated to recruiting.

The pipeline will not stop anytime soon. Florida receiver [autotag]Brandon Inniss[/autotag] signed with [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] in December. Before he gets to Columbus, he brought his talents to San Antonio and the [autotag]All-American Bowl[/autotag].

A fumble gave the East the ball in the red zone and [autotag]UCLA[/autotag] quarterback signee [autotag]Dante Moore[/autotag] found Inniss in the end zone for a second touchdown of the game for their team.

It was Inniss’ second catch of the game. He appears to have built a good rapport with Moore during practice this week.

Ohio State running back spurns draft, will return to Columbus for another season

“Chop” is back! #GoBucks

The life of a running back is much shorter than any other position in football. The punishment players at the position take on a daily basis makes it very hard for them to play at a high level for a long period of time.

For [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] running back [autotag]Miyan Williams[/autotag] who had a break-out season and battled injuries, he still had a big decision on his hands this off-season. Today, Williams let everyone know what his intentions are by announcing that he will return to Columbus for another campaign.

We all know how tough Williams is, he attempted to play against our rivals along with Georgia, but he clearly wasn’t as healthy as he would have liked. He will now have plenty of time to heal up in advance for the punishment that he will receive and dish out next fall.

Last year Williams showed flashes of what he could be and really took a big leap forward. His touchdowns went up from 3 in 2021 to 14 this season, while his yardage jumped from 507 to 825 as well. If fully healthy next year, I expect “Chop” to go over the 1,000-yard mark even with splitting carries with [autotag]TreVeyon Henderson[/autotag].

Watch: Highlights of Ohio State signees at All-American Bowl practice

The Buckeyes have a ton of talent in San Antonio this week #GoBucks

While one of the two high school all-star games has already been played (check out this report on Noah Rogers at the Under Armor All-American Bowl), the other game has yet to happen but the prep is going on now.

Formerly known as the [autotag]Army All-American Bowl[/autotag] — now known as the [autotag]All-American Bowl[/autotag] — the game features seven [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] signees. It is a great indicator of future talent as the list of former players is very impressive. It includes Ohio State stars of the past [autotag]Chase Young[/autotag], [autotag]Ezekiel Elliott[/autotag], [autotag]Garrett Wilson[/autotag], and many others.

Plenty of current Buckeyes that have made impacts in their careers like [autotag]C.J. Stroud[/autotag] and [autotag]Jaxson Smith-Njigba[/autotag] were participants in the game as well. Since the contest will be played this Saturday, plenty of practice highlights are being shared around Twitter. Here are the best of the Buckeye signees so far during practice.

247Sports gives a report on Ohio State WR Noah Rogers performance at Under Armor All-American Bowl

The Buckeyes signed another very good wide receiver #GoBucks

The [autotag]Under Armor All-American Bowl[/autotag] was played Tuesday, and there wasn’t as much scoring as you would expect from a high school all-star game. The teams combined for 21 points, with one of the touchdowns coming from a pick-six.

That meant that [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] signee [autotag]Noah Rogers[/autotag] didn’t get many opportunities to shine, but 247Sports was on hand for the whole week. With so many impressive players, not everyone gets time during the game but an impression can still be made during practice.

Rogers did exactly that. Andrew Ivins reported he “has some of the tools needed to eventually emerge as a go-to option for quarterbacks on Saturdays.”

He is part of another impressive wide receiver recruiting haul for head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and wide receiver coach [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag], which includes [autotag]Brandon Inniss[/autotag], [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag] and [autotag]Bryson Rodgers[/autotag].

If the report is correct, we should see Rogers performing at a high level for the Buckeyes sooner rather than later even if he didn’t shine during the game.

What to expect from Ohio State’s newest transfer, safety Ja’Had Carter

The Buckeyes picked up a good one from the portal #GoBucks

The Ohio State football programed gained its first big win of the 2022-23 transfer cycle when it received a commitment from former [autotag]Syracuse[/autotag] safety, [autotag]Ja’Had Carter[/autotag]. The rising fourth-year player has two years of eligibility remaining. He has been terrific for the Orange, making the freshman All-American teams in his first year, followed by a solid sophomore year and a better junior year.

Carter was a menace with takeaways this season, grabbing three interceptions to go along with a fumble recovery that he took to the house. He played his best football in a three-game stretch against [autotag]Pittsburgh[/autotag], Notre Dame, and Clemson. Carter had 20 tackles, 3 picks, and a fumble recovery during that run.

It wasn’t easy finding highlights for Carter, but from what I did find, Buckeye nation should be pretty excited about the potential of the 6-foot-2-inch, 198-pound transfer.

Carter is always around the ball, even if he’s not making plays. His instincts are great, which is why he picked off multiple passes this fall. Carter has the speed to make up ground and that translates when he comes up to play the run.

The versatility that Carter has is just so impressive. One play he can read the run and come up to make the stop. The next, as the single-high safety, make the right read, keep his proper depth and come away with a pick.

There is a reason Carter was viewed as the best safety in the transfer portal this cycle. [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] knew that he was losing at least one of his starting safeties in [autotag]Ronnie Hickman[/autotag] and found a replacement that should be plug-and-play for [autotag]Jim Knowles'[/autotag] defense next fall.
