Oregon State OL transfer commits to Michigan State football

Michigan State lands Oregon State IOL transfer Luka Vincic

Michigan State football is taking it upon themselves to totally rebuild their line of scrimmage, knowing that the offensive line play has to drastically improve from 2024 to 2025. The Spartans have taken the first step in improving that area of the team.

Luka Vincic has committed to Michigan State. Vincic will come to Michigan State after spending the beginning of his career at Oregon State.

Vincic was brought to Oregon State by the current MSU coaching staff, including Jonathan Smith and OL coach Jim Michalczik. Very familiar with his game, it will be a welcomed addition to the Spartans offensive line room.

With two years of eligibility remaining, Vincic was slated to be a starting guard in Corvallis last season, and will be given the opportunity to take over a starting spot on MSU’s offensive line.

Social media reacts: DJ Uiagalelei transfers to Florida State

Former Clemson and Oregon State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei is heading back to the ACC.

After a one-year stint at Oregon State, former Clemson quarterback is back on the move again, this time transferring to Florida State, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on Monday.

Uiagalelei transferred to Oregon State in December 2022 after three seasons at Clemson, the latter two of which he was the starting signal-caller for the Tigers.

In his one year as a Beaver, the former five-star recruit completed 57.1 percent of his passes for 2,638 yards, 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also ran for 219 yards and six scores on the ground. Prior to Monday’s decision, Uiagalelei was deciding between staying in college or declaring for April’s NFL draft.

With the move, Uiagalelei will play for the Seminoles, one of Clemson’s biggest rivals in the ACC, in his last season in college football. The Tigers will travel to the Seminoles in the 2024 season in what will be the first meeting between Uiagalelei and Clemson since he left the program.

Here’s how people on X reacted to Uiagalelei transferring to Florida State.

Report: Former Oregon State CB Jermod McCoy is set to announce his transfer destination

Former Oregon State CB Jermod McCoy will reportedly announce his transfer destination on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

After landing standout cornerback Will Lee Jr. as Texas A&M’s first commitment from the transfer portal, new head coach Mike Elko requires more additions in the secondary, but a recent pledge from former Central Michigan safety Trey Jones provided even more cushion.

With the early signing period set to begin on Wednesday, the Aggies are poised to continue adding more talent on both sides of the ball, but staying at cornerback, former Oregon State CB Jermod McCoy, who recently took a visit to College Station last weekend, will reportedly announce his commitment on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

According to AggiesToday, McCoy will reportedly choose between Texas A&M and the Tennessee Volunteers, as his collegiate playing career will continue in the SEC no matter what.

Jermod McCoy is the 5th-ranked cornerback in the transfer portal rankings and is coming off his impressive 2023 freshman season within one of the best defenses in the country, recording 31 tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass deflections on the year. Paired with Lee, McCoy would give the Aggies a solid 1-2 punch in the secondary.

What’s new?

The vagaries of college football realignment didn’t directly impact the Mountain West Conference over the last calendar year, but the shockwaves of moves across the country resulted today in a revised slate of matchups that includes the Oregon State Beavers and Washington State Cougars, the two Pac-12 programs left behind by their conference mates’ exodus.

When it was announced that the conference would do away with the Mountain and West divisions in 2022, the conference announced a rotation that would protect two games for each team and extend through the 2025 season. A multitude of Power 5 programs had other plans, however, and when the Big 12, Big Ten, and ACC raided the Pac-12 for ten of its teams throughout 2023, it left Oregon State and Washington State standing alone.

Here are the home and away games that the Mountain West had previously unveiled for 2024:

Air Force, Nevada, and San Diego State will host the Beavers while Boise State, Fresno State, and New Mexico will do the same for the Cougars. Conversely, Colorado State, San Jose State, and UNLV will travel to Corvallis; Hawaii, Utah State, and Wyoming will head to Pullman. None of the games will count as part of the conference standings, however, meaning that each Mountain West team will have seven conference games rather than the usual eight.

The changes, as you might expect, have differing impacts on every Mountain West team’s pre-existing schedule. Air Force, for instance, will get to face Oregon State at home instead of Hawaii, but Colorado State now travels to Oregon State and Nevada rather than Boise and San Diego. As DNVR Sports’s Justin Michael noted, it will be the first time since 2010 that the Rams and Broncos do not face each other. Similarly, Wyoming will now host San Diego State and Utah State rather than Nevada and UNLV.

One interesting twist is that the two teams who played in the Mountain West championship game this month, Boise State and UNLV, are now set to square off at Allegiant Stadium rather than Albertsons Stadium next year. Exact dates for the Mountain West schedule will be released at a later time, but next year’s title game is slated for Saturday, December 7, 2024.

Former Buffs running back Anthony Hankerson lands at Oregon State

Anthony Hankerson is headed to Corvallis

The Colorado Buffaloes have been active in the transfer portal, bringing in new commits left and right.

But, one departing player is running back Anthony Hankerson. The sophomore running back has now decided to stay in the Pac-12 (or Pac-2) and play for the Oregon State Beavers, as he announced in an X post on Wednesday.

Hankerson is the second Buffs player of this cycle to go to Oregon State, as he followed center Van Wells to Corvallis. After Jonathan Smith left for Michigan State, Trent Bray was promoted to OSU’s head job.

Oregon State and Washington State are the only two programs that aren’t planning to leave the Pac-12, and they have constructed a scheduling alliance with the Mountain West Conference.

Hankerson rushed for 319 yards and a touchdown this past season, sharing snaps with Dylan Edwards and Sy’veon Wilkerson.

Oregon State transfer CB Jermod McCoy is set to visit Texas A&M next weekend

Looking to add starting experience to the secondary, Texas A&M and HC Mike Elko will host former Oregon State CB Jermod McCoy next weekend.

New Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has hit the ground running, focused on adding productive players from the transfer portal to counter the losses the roster has already sustained.

Focused on the cornerback position, 2023 starting CBs Tyreek Chappell and Deuce Harmon have both entered the portal, as the Aggies’ secondary will presumably lose five players in the secondary, including senior cornerback Josh DeBerry and senior safety Demani Richardson.

Elko has already secured a commitment from former Kansas State CB Will Lee III, and AggiesToday has now reported that former Oregon State cornerback Jarmon McCoy will follow in Lee’s footsteps and visit Elko and his staff on Friday, Dec. 15.

Just below Will Lee, McCoy is the 5th-ranked cornerback in the transfer portal rankings and is coming off his impressive 2023 freshman season within one of the best defenses in the country, recording 31 tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass deflections on the year. Paired with Lee, McCoy would provide the Aggies with a solid 1-2 punch in the secondary.

Two ACC schools are the top suitors for DJ Uiagalelei, per reports

According to reports from Pete Thamel, former Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei’s two top suitors are in the ACC.

Former Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has reentered the transfer portal after one season at Oregon State, and early reports indicate that two ACC schools are the top suitors for the transfer quarterback.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports, Florida State and Louisville have emerged as Uiagalelei’s top suitors. He discussed this Tuesday on College Football Live, talking about multiple transfer portal quarterbacks, including Uiagalelei.

“As for DJ Uiagalelei, we could see a return to the ACC,” Thamel said. “Two schools have emerged as his top suitors are: Florida State and Louisville. He has no visits set. Mississippi State has also shown some interest. But DJU could be making a cross-country trip back to the Atlantic. He obviously started at Clemson, thrived last year at Oregon State, has one more year of eligibility left, and he’s one of the top quarterbacks available in this portal.”

Interesting news from Thamel: could Uiagalelei end up back in the ACC? This is a situation to monitor closely.
