Ohio State social media reacts to the start of Michigan week

Social media posts get Michigan week started off with a bang. #GoBucks

After a dominating win over Minnesota, the Ohio State football team and its fans have officially turned the focus up north. It’s rivalry week and it doesn’t get any bigger than The Game!

With the ongoing debacle of cheating allegations in Ann Arbor, the stakes have never been higher. Jim Harbaugh won’t be on the sidelines and if TTUN wins, it’ll be more salt in the wounds of a two-year festering sore. Both teams know this is a defacto playoff game with the loser almost certainly out of the College Football Playoff conversation — barring some serious chaos occurring.

Tensions will be running high this week, especially between fans. As rivalry week opens, let’s take a look at some of the best takes social media has to offer to usher in Michigan week.

Michigan recruit JJ McCarthy adds more fuel to the Ohio State rivalry

Michigan QB recruit J.J. McCarthy says he wants to kill Ohio State. But that’s there was even more criticism from the future Wolverine.

When will they ever learn? It just doesn’t ever seem to end well when Michigan players and recruits poke the Ohio State bear.

Wolverine quarterback recruit and early enrollee, JJ McCarthy decided to stoke the flames of the biggest rivalry college football with some comments made to SI.com fan page Wolverine Digest. When asked about the Buckeyes, McCarthy was quoted as saying “I used to love them, now I want to kill them.”

Those words themselves won’t surprise anyone who knows how deep this rivalry goes. But it was the comments that came after that will fan the flames. McCarthy continued on saying that OSU head coach Ryan Day had been less than honest during the quarterback’s recruitment and then went on to say how there was no family feel on his official visit.

“I used to love them, now I want to kill them”, said McCarthy.Coach Day told me he wasn’t going to take a 2021 quarterback until the end of summer or anything like that because he wanted to make sure everything was all good, so I didn’t really worry about all that during my visit. But I didn’t get that feeling when I was there. I really didn’t, with all the coaches there and how they interacted with us, I didn’t feel the big family tradition part of it. It was either you’re good at football or you’re over here. That’s what I felt.”

“I get it’s a business, but it always sucks being lied to. And that’s kind of where the rivalry started for me. And the hatred. But what are you going to do? It’s a business and they have to do what they have to do. They lied to my face, but it’s all good now.”

Interesting. Especially when current Ohio State players talk glowingly of Day and the family atmosphere he has created in Columbus. It kind of feels like McCarthy got his feelings hurt that Ohio State had their eye on other QB recruits.

Looking around the locker room at guys like CJ Stroud, Jack Miller, and recently signed Kyle McCord, Day wants the best, and not only the best, but guys that want to compete against. And that doesn’t even consider the commitment o Quinn Ewers, the nation’s No. 1 overall player in 2022.

In a world where everything that comes out of your mouth can be documented, McCarthy took things to another level by making it personal against Ryan Day and the family culture he’s creating at Ohio State.

McCarthy is a talented kid for sure and possibly the answer Jim Harbaugh has been looking for since arriving in Ann Arbor. However, he just made things a little more difficult for himself and I’m sure the guys in Columbus will remember when they see each other on the field.

Kickoff announced for the Ohio State vs. Michigan game on December 12

Kickoff has been announced for the Ohio State vs. Michigan football game on December 12. It’ll be aired on FOX in a familiar time window.

Currently, it’s been 3,242 days since the Ohio State football last lost a game to Michigan. The Buckeyes will look to continue that dominance on December 12 when the Wolverines make a visit to Ohio Stadium in Columbus.

The game will be televised on FOX and the game time has just been released as a noon kickoff (Eastern Time).

Most traditionalists will love this start time, but there are those who would prefer a later start time to get one of the greatest rivalries in college football in front of more people in prime time.

Either way, we at BuckeyesWire are just glad the games are going to be played and looking forward to the start of Ohio State football just around the corner.

Michigan’s Don Brown has thoughts on Ohio State hanging a hundred on the Wolverines

Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown took the high road when being asked about Ohio State wanting to “hang a hundred” on the Wolverines.

The rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan runs deep as we all know, and yet each year, it seems some new fuel is thrown onto the fire.

2020 has been no different as it was reported earlier in the year during a B1G conference call that Jim Harbaugh interrupted Ryan Day, accusing the Buckeyes of holding workouts that were against Big Ten rules.

There has been no evidence of this type of violation and Coach Day was none too happy about the accusation reportedly firing back with “How about I worry about my team and you worry about yours?”

Afterword, it was rumored that Day told his team the Big Ten better have a mercy rule, because “we’re gonna hang a hundred on them.”

Don Brown, Michigan’s defensive coordinator, who has made the Wolverines one of the top defensive teams in the country since his arrival (but still can’t seem to stop the Buckeye freight train) was asked about Day’s alleged comments.

Brown took the high road saying “We get ready to play against them every day. … We got a lot of work to do. I’m keeping my mouth shut and going to work every day.”

Don Brown is smart enough not to give any more bulletin board material to the Buckeyes who have absolutely owned Michigan for the past two decades.

However, I’d be willing to bet that Brown is preaching a different message behind closed doors in the UM locker room… or maybe the Wolverines are finally wising up and realizing it’s not smart to keep poking the bear.

The Buckeyes host Michigan in Ohio Stadium on December 12.

Five reason to be thankful as Ohio State fans

Ohio State fans might be spoiled, but that’s because of the success the Buckeyes have had over the years. Here’s 5 reasons to be thankful.

It’s Thanksgiving and we all have reasons to be thankful… food on the table, family and friends, health, and of course our Ohio State Buckeyes. We thought, on this day of thanks, it would be nice to share five things were thankful for concerning the Scarlet and Gray.

Only five reasons to be thankful? There’s plenty more, but we know you only have so much time before the tryptophan kicks in fast asleep in your La-Z-Boy.

Let’s give thanks.

No. 5 – The Transfer Portal

Let’s give thanks for the transfer portal. Without it, no Justin Fields. That’s not a knock on Tate Martell, but let’s be honest, Fields has been better than anyone could’ve expected.

Maybe Tate Martell could’ve been the guy for the Buckeyes this season. But Justin Fields has shown poise and maturity far beyond his years. His numbers aren’t as gaudy as some other QBs on nationally ranked teams, but he has been one of the best in college football all season long.

And without the transfer portal, Buckeye fans would have had to wait a year or maybe he never even transfers with the old rules of having to sit out a year.

Maybe the portal comes back to bite OSU in the future and we lose a prize recruit, but for now, we give thanks for the transfer portal that brought us Justin Fields.

Now about Joe Burrow … well – there’s that.

Next … the new head man in charge

Ranking the Ohio State-Michigan games so far this decade

On the doorstep of the final meeting in the 2010s, let’s take a look back at how the last nine OSU-UM meetings have stacked up.

The build-up, the quirks of each fan base, and yes, the game. Ahem, “The Game.”

The Ohio State-Michigan rivalry, 102 meetings into the historic matchup, is one of the most anticipated and entertaining games on the college football calendar every year. The battle at the Big House or the Horseshoe each November can act as time-warp of reflections into football history—Western Conferences, helmets made of leather, Woody, Bo, and Earl Bruce’s hat—while also giving young Wolverine and Buckeye fans the building-block reasoning to dislike the other.

The all-time series currently sits at 58-50-6, in favor of the Wolverines. And while the 1990’s matchups induced more headaches than not for the Scarlet and Gray fan base—those nights waking in a cold sweat and screaming “Tim Biakabutuka!”—the turn of the millennium has been less brutal and more Brutus.

On the doorstep of the final meeting in the 2010s, as the rivalry opens a new chapter, the dominance has stayed in the Buckeyes’ favor. How will it end?

While we await that answer, let’s take a look back at how the last nine meetings have stacked up.

Ironically, there were a few things that made the 2010 game in Columbus seem like it was upside-down. The Buckeyes came out in 1942 throwback uniforms—the second straight year going Nike-nutty—while also featuring brand-new gloves. Why does this matter? Well, the uniforms kept fans preoccupied with Google searches while the gloves got some shine during a few celebration penalties thought to be nods to Jay-Z and LeBron—which caused more Google searches.

Those were the most memorable elements from that day.

Overall, the game was a snooze-fest. The Buckeyes, with a balanced offense led by Terrell Pryor and Dan Herron, had it wrapped up by halftime. They added another 13 points in the third quarter just for good measure and ended the game—and really, Rich Rodriguez’s tenure at UM—with a score of 37-7.

And the win was eventually vacated…
