Ohio State football beats out Georgia for pledge from top 100 running back

BOOM! Got a big one on #NSD

It’s the new and improved National Signing Day Ohio State football fans. In some regards, it’s a lot like Christmas morning with all of these recruiting gifts officially inking their name on their national letters of intent to become a part of the 2025 recruiting class.

The Buckeyes don’t typically get too involved in a ton of drama compared to other programs, but there are usually a couple of surprises or unknown commitments to watch. And with that, Ohio State just got a pledge from its biggest remaining target on the board with former Alabama commit, 4-star running back Anthony Rogers choosing OSU over Georgia on Wednesday.

OSU had 25 recruits verbally committed before Wednesday, and so far most of them have signed, but there could be a defection with what’s left. Rogers commitment means the Buckeyes will most likely sign a total of 25 or 26 players for the 2025 class.

Rogers gives Ohio State three running backs in the recruiting cycle, joining 4-star Bo Jackson and 3-star Isaiah West. You can credit running backs coach Carlos Locklyn for the hard work in establishing a relationship and brining the talented running back home.

At 5-feet, 190-pounds, Rogers hails from Montgomery, Alabama. He is ranked as the No. 9 running back and 148th overall prospect in the class of 2025 according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. It’s a pretty big win for OSU when it needs it most.

We’ll keep you up to any further news that comes out of signing day. In the meantime, you can follow along in real-time as each member of the 2025 recruiting class officially signs.

Ohio State legacy Trey McNutt sets date for college decision

This one is trending in the wrong direction #GoBucks

Another Ohio State recruit will make his college choice known very soon. Trey McNutt, who is the son of former OSU defensive back Richard McNutt, will announce his decision on July 19 and has the Buckeyes in his top-five. The Bucks are joined by Florida, Oregon, USC, and Texas A&M.

One might think being an Ohio State legacy would be a lock for the Buckeyes and things were looking that way for a while. But after McNutt chose not to take an official visit to Columbus during June, momentum has seemed to shift toward the Ducks.

McNutt is a coveted recruit and not just because of his scarlet and gray roots. He is the No. 1 rated safety in all the land according to 247Sports composite rankings. For Ohio State, Losing yet another in-state kid would be a heartbreaking loss.

If McNutt does choose to go elsewhere, all is not lost. Ohio State does have a commitment from the No. 2 rated safety, Faheem Delane. On top of that, you can be sure that even though he’ll pick a school next Friday, the recruitment will be far from over as the coaching staff will certainly continue to invite the young man to campus to catch some games firsthand in the fall.

Ohio State wide receiver recruit sets date to announce decision

Will Ohio State land another top receiver? #GoBucks

Could a BOOM be on the horizon for Ohio State? It’s possible as five-star receiver Vernell Brown III has set a decision day for July 21. Brown put the Buckeyes in his top four back in May.

The Florida native is ranked as the No. 6 overall receiver in the country according to 247Sports composite rankings. Joining Ohio State on Brown’s shortlist are Florida, Florida State, and Miami. Will it be tough to pull a Sunshine State kid north? The fact that OSU is the only school listed not in his home state speaks of the recruiting power of Brian Hartline.

Steve Wiltfong placed a crystal ball prediction in favor of the Buckeyes back in March, but recent days have seen a different trend. The three most recent predictions, all within the last month, point toward the Gators earning Brown’s pledge.

At this time, Ohio State has three receivers pledged to join the Scarlet and Gray in 2025. It looks like Hartline is going to have to work some real magic to get Brown to be the fourth.

Ohio State swoops into SEC country to land 4-star defensive lineman Zion Grady

Zion Grady commits to Ohio State.

Zion Grady gave his verbal to Ohio State on Monday, giving another blue-chip recruit to the nation’s top recruiting class.

A 6-foot-4 and 230-pound defensive end, Grady is the No. 45 recruit in the ESPN 300. Over the weekend, Grady took an official visit to Ohio State.

Grady plays for Enterprise High School (Troy, Alabama). Last year, he had 106 total tackles with 19 sacks.

He took prior official visits to Miami and Florida State this summer.

In the On3 Industry Rankings, Grady is the No. 79 overall recruit. He is the sixth-ranked recruit in Alabama in this recruiting cycle and No. 11 defensive end.

His commitment was made official via Hayes Fawcett of On3:

Ohio State has the top recruiting class in the nation according to On3. With the addition of Grady, the Buckeyes now have 19 committed players.

They have three recruits ranked as five-stars. Grady is the tenth player committed to Ohio State ranked among the top 100 in the nation by On3.

Report: Ohio State 2025 commit will visit rival Big Ten school this weekend

Not great news for the Buckeyes. #GoBucks

As we all know with recruiting that it’s not over until the prospect is signed, and Ohio State football is going through that right now.

Not only are the Buckeyes trying to flip commitments from other schools, they are having to fend off other programs for their verbals. One of those is 2025 Philadelphia defensive end, [autotag]Zahir Mathis[/autotag].

According to this report by 247Sports Brian Dohn (subscription required), the 6-foot, 6-inch, 225-pound pass rusher will take an official visit to Penn State this weekend.

This should be viewed as significant, as he’s a local product for the Nittany Lions. Ohio State would hate to see the nation’s No. 60 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings flip to a rival Big Ten program.

The recruitment of Mathis is looking like it’s going to go down to the wire, with the Buckeyes having to stave off hard charging Penn State.

Ohio State quarterback commit Tavien St. Clair earns high praise after day one of Elite 11

Another Ohio State QB is tearing it up at the Elite 11 Camp. #GoBucks

Ohio State football fans are very familiar with the Elite 11 camp. That’s because the Buckeyes have had mulitple former and current players who have won the event.

Justin Fields, C.J. Stroud and Julian Sayin all won MVP honors, and 2025 commit [autotag]Tavien St. Clair[/autotag] is trying to join them. The nation’s No. 14 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings dominated the first day of the event, earning high praise from multiple outlets.

247Sports had St. Clair at their alpha dog, the top performer of the group. His rise from almost unknown prospect to now 5-star status has been impressive, so this showing shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Although he wasn’t named On3’s top player, coming in second isn’t too shabby.

The third of the big three recruiting services, Rivals, didn’t rank the quarterbacks, but did point out that St. Clair was “looking impressive.”

No one should be surprised if St. Clair returns home to Ohio with an MVP award from the top quarterback camp in the country, the Elite 11.

Rutgers football beats out Ohio State, Penn State for 4-star lineman Josh Blackston

Rutgers football gets a big commitment from Josh Blackston.

It was a third commitment for Rutgers football from this weekend’s official visits, with four-star offensive lineman Joshua Blackston giving his verbal to the Big Ten program. And it was quite the win for Rutgers, beating out Big Ten rivals Ohio State and Penn State for the player.

Blackston picked Rutgers over an offer list that included Boston College, Cincinnati, Maryland, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech among others. He is a 6-foot-4, 285-pound interior offensive lineman for Dunbar High School (Baltimore, Maryland).

He is a four-star recruit and the No. 245 overall player in the nation according to On3. In the On3 Industry Rankings, he checks in as the No. 38 interior offensive lineman in the class of 2025.

He marks the second four-star commitment for Rutgers in as many days. On Sunday, Rutgers landed four-star safety Tariq Hayer, the No. 98 player in the ESPN 300.

Blackston made his commitment public on Monday afternoon.

Following a series of commitments last weekend (10 verbals for Rutgers) and now three this weekend, the Rutgers football recruiting class currently sits at eighth in the nation according to Rivals.

Ohio State offensive line target Jackson Lloyd has ‘great time’ on official visit

The Buckeyes hope this visit stays on his mind as he continues the process

The only issue Ohio State football has had in recruiting over the past few cycles has been on the offensive line.

The Buckeye coaching staff is looking to correct that in the 2025 cycle, and one of those who could help is Indiana offensive tackle [autotag]Jackson Lloyd[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 7-inch and 280-pound mauler was in Columbus over the weekend for an official visit and according to him, he “had a great time.”

Ohio State has made his top six, and has to battle Alabama, Oregon, Stanford, Tennessee and USC for his commitment. Lloyd is ranked as the nations No. 187 overall prospect and 19th offensive tackle according to the 247Sports Composite.

Ohio State currently has a commitment from in-state star tackle Carter Lowe, but would love to add two or three more elite prospects at the position to round out the cycle.

BOOM! Ohio State football lands a commitment from high 4-star safety

A BOOM! on Sunday

For the second weekend in-a-row, Ohio State football hosted recruits on campus for official visits.

It’s safe to say that the Buckeye coaching staff has done a great job, as running back Bo Jackson committed shortly after his visit last weekend and on Sunday, Ohio State got another in safety [autotag]Faheem Delane[/autotag].

The 6-foot, 3-inch and 195-pound defender still had more than a few visits still lined up, but opted to verbal to Ohio State while on campus. Delane is an elite prospect, as he’s ranked as the nations No. 34 overall prospect and 2nd ranked safety according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He becomes the 14th commitment in the 2025 class, one that now has jumped Notre Dame to take the top spot in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.

The Ohio State secondary class is arguably the top group in the country, as cornerbacks Devin Sanchez and Na’eem Offord are both 5-star commits, with Delane also joining DeShawn Stewart and Cody Haddad as highly regarded safeties.

Top Ohio State football wide receiver target will commit in August

The Buckeyes are back in this one

We are coming to the wire for Ohio State football target [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag], the 2025 wide receiver once committed to Alabama.

The retirement of Nick Saban sent waves across the college football landscape, with the Florida being one of those. At one point, it looked like the Buckeyes were trending out of the picture for the nations No. 18 overall prospect and 5th ranked player at his position according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

That clearly has changed, as the 6-foot, 1-inch and 185-pound Ffrench will make his choice on August 30th with LSU, Miami, Tennessee, Texas and Ohio State all still being considered.

What’s interesting about his recruitment has been the fact that he has leaned towards multiple schools, but now according to On3’s Chad Simmons, “don’t have a leader.”

Ffrench has yet to set up an Ohio State official visit, and until then, it’s hard to see the Buckeyes getting his commitment.
