North Texas vs UAB Game Preview

Why North Texas Will Win

Can North Texas really play for the Conference USA championship? It’s on the doorstep of doing that after coming up with two straight great performances in wins over WKU and FIU.

The passing game has gone off. Austin Aune has been unstoppable, the running game is averaging over five yards per carry on the year, and UAB has to prove it can keep up.

All of a sudden, the Blazers have stalled with three straight losses, but …

10 Best Picks Against The Spread

Why UAB Will Win

This might be fixable.

It’s going to take a big pivot to get back in the mix for a bowl game, but it can start with the running game that’s been rolling over everyone. D

DeWayne McBride – the nation’s leading rusher – continues to hammer away for a ground game that’s going to blow past 200 yards, and last week the passing attack showed it could hold up its end of the bargain with Jacob Zeno throwing for 332 yards.

UAB has to keep up in the pace in the shootout, but …

Schedules, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Can UAB’s defense hold up? It’s not coming up with enough key stops, the offense isn’t able to control game like it should, and the secondary isn’t holding up in the red zone likes it needs to.

The North Texas offense will be great, but UAB is a totally different animal at home.

North Texas vs WKU Game Preview

Why North Texas Will Win

The running game fun might have chilled out for a game but it’s about to come back strong.

The Mean Green were rolling with 775 rushing yards over a two game stretch before stalling in last week’s 31-27 loss to UTSA. Now it’s about to hit the 200-yard mark again against a WKU defense that’s fine, but had problems in the win over UAB and the loss to USTA.

It’s this simple for North Texas, though – can it slow down the Hilltopper passing game? The D isn’t special, but it can generate a pass rush and hold on  for a few drives while the offense takes over.

For all of the fun with the WKU attack, it’s not great on third downs and doesn’t push the ball down the field enough to matter.

NFL Expert Picks, Week 8

Why WKU Will Win

The Hilltoppers aren’t bad against the run overall.

The goal is to get that passing game going early to force North Texas to start throwing and get it out of its gameplan. It can do that with a few good early drives.

To be fair, WKU leads Conference USA against the run because everyone throws against this D – and because few on the slate so far can grind – but North Texas doesn’t power up like UAB and UTSA do. It’s more about getting playmakers in space, and WKU can slow that down.

Keep the Mean Green from ripping off yards in chunks, come up with a few takeaways, and …

What’s Going To Happen

These two teams have plays a whole slew of fun games this year, and this should be another one.

North Texas, though, is is 3-1 at home, 1-3 on the road, and that one win away from Denton came in the opener against UTEP.

WKU showed last week it can win even when it gets gouged by a good ground game, but it took four takeaways against UAB to get that done.

The D won’t get that many, but it’ll come up with two to help out the offense that will control things with the quick passing attack.

North Texas vs UTSA Game Preview

Why North Texas Will Win

The Mean Green running game is going off.

The combination of Ayo Adeyi, Oscar Adaway, and Ikaika Ragsdale are ripping off yards in bunches with 300 rushing yards in the win over Florida Atlantic and 475 in the 47-27 win over Louisiana Tech.

The passing game works, too, for the No. 1 offense in the league averaging over 500 yards per pop, and now it all gets to go against a UTSA defense that’s fine, but gives up 4.5 yards per carry.

However …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 7

Why UTSA Will Win

UTSA is more than happy to keep up the pace.

Frank Harris and the Roadrunner offense might not be running like North Texas is, but the overall O isn’t far behind in production with the ability to bomb away on the Mean Green D.

North Texas is playing better defense than it has in the recent past, but it’s still getting gouged especially through the air.

UTSA lost to Houston and Texas – it’s getting by everyone else. It’s used to playing tight games, and it’s more than happy to make this a shootout at home.

– Game Previews, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Get ready to have some fun.

Both offense will trade big shots, there will be plenty of wild swings, and UTSA will come through by being a bit more consistent on third downs to keep things moving.

North Texas will get its yards in, but the other side won’t stop the Roadrunners.

Louisiana Tech vs North Texas Game Preview

Why Louisiana Tech Will Win

The Bulldogs desperately needed a win to get the season going, and it came through with a 41-31 shootout against a decent UTEP defense.

The offense was fine, but the four takeaways played the biggest role. North Texas is having a turnover problem with 12 on the year and seven over the last three games.

The Mean Green offense is struggling on third downs, it’s forcing too many throws leading to picks, and the run defense can be plowed on. However …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 6

Why North Texas Will Win

Louisiana Tech doesn’t run well enough to matter.

It had one big explosion in the win over Stephen F Austin, but that’s been it. It’ll try running on the soft Mean Green defensive front, but it needs to throw to win.

The passing yards will be there, but getting into a shootout with North Texas is a problem. The Mean Green ran on Florida Atlantic for 300 yards, threw for close to 700 yards in the previous two games, and they’ll find a way to get everything going.

As long as the running game works – and it should be able to on the Bulldog front – they’ll control this.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Both offenses will have some fun.

Louisiana Tech will wing it around for close to 300 yards, but North Texas will be a bit more balanced. When it runs well, it does better – it doesn’t want to make this about who can be more effective through the air.

Both teams will turn the ball over a few times, but at home the North Texas offense will be more effective and consistent.

Florida Atlantic vs North Texas Game Preview

Why Florida Atlantic Will Win

The offense is more than capable of keeping up the pace.

North Texas has been doing a great job with the passing game, and Florida Atlantic should be able to bring the balance to do what it must.

The Mean Green couldn’t handle the UNLV running game, it had problems with just about everyone else through the air – UNLV was hitting passes at ease, too – and now it’s up to QB N’Kosi Perry to find a groove early.

The offensive line is doing a good job of keeping defenses out of the backfield, the defenses forced five takeaways in the last two games, and …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 4

Why North Texas Will Win

The Owls are struggling defensively.

They did a nice job in the close call 28-26 fight at Purdue, but that came after getting destroyed by UCF. Ohio was able to throw at will, the run defense has been spotty, and North Texas should be able to take advantage of it all.

Yes, Perry is playing well enough to keep up, but he hasn’t been consistent enough, and he’s not pushing the ball down the field like North Texas can.

Mean Green QB Austin Aune is averaging over eight yards per pass, he threw for 676 yards and five scores over the last two games, but …

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Can North Texas overcome the turnovers that are coming?

Florida Atlantic should make this a shootout, but the pass defense that’s been struggling will give up over 300 yards, being at home will matter, and this will be a fun game with the Mean Green big plays taking over late.

Chargers WR Jalen Guyton to miss rest of season with torn ACL

The Chargers are losing their only speed threat for the remainder of the season.

The injury bug is back with the Chargers.

Wide receiver Jalen Guyton tore his ACL in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars and will miss the rest of the 2022 season.

The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter when Justin Herbert targeted him near the end zone, and he came up clutching his knee and couldn’t make it off the field on his own.

The announcement of Guyton’s season-ending injury comes on the same day as Rashawn Slater’s bicep injury that will cause him to be sidelined for the remainder of the year.

Losing Guyton is crucial to the offense, as he is the only wideout with the speed to stretch the field.

In his four seasons with Los Angeles, Guyton had 61 catches for 1,023 yards and six touchdowns while starting 11 of the 38 games he appeared in.

Memphis vs North Texas Game Preview

Why North Texas Will Win

The defense might have failed against UNLV, but the offense keeps on going with Austin Aune and the passing game throwing well …

Usually.

The defense is an issue – more about that in a moment – but the offense is great at generating first downs, the points are there, and it’s going to make Memphis keep bombing away to keep up.

The Tigers are a disaster defensively on third downs and they’re getting hammered through the air – and that includes a game against Navy among the three so far – partly because there’s no pass rush for the Mean Green to worry about.

However …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Memphis Will Win

North Texas isn’t exactly a defensive rock, either.

It’s allowing over 500 yards per game, the run defense is getting shoved around, and the secondary is allowing close to 300 yards per game.

Seth Henigan and the Tiger offense have gone for close to 800 passing yards and five touchdowns over the last two weeks, and as long as he gets time to work, he’ll go off on the North Texas secondary.

Memphis will put up yards, and …

10 Best Predictions Against the Spread

What’s Going To Happen

Turnovers are going to matter.

Memphis might have to push its offense a bit, but it only has one turnover so far, no interceptions, and North Texas has given it away seven times in four games.

The Tigers will be +2 in turnover margin, and they’re not going to need to be with over 500 yards of total offense consistently cranking up the Mean Green D.

North Texas vs UNLV Game Preview

Why North Texas Will Win

The Mean Green offense is working.

The passing game has been consistent, the running game is ripping it up, and overall the team is averaging 476 yards per game behind a line that’s been great at giving everyone time.

UNLV doesn’t have the offensive pop to keep up.

The passing game was great against Idaho State, but it’s not keeping the chains moving, penalty yards have been a problem, and unlike North Texas, the offensive line is having a big problem in pass protection.

However …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 3

Why UNLV Will Win

Here comes the UNLV pass rush.

North Texas might be doing a nice job so far, but it’s about to get pressed and pressured against a Rebel defensive front that generated nine sacks in the first two games – mostly against Idaho State.

The defense has played well. It’s only allowing 1.9 yards per carry – the sacks are helping the stats – and at home it’s up to the offense to start cranking it up. the Cal defense was able to keep the Rebels under wraps, in the 20-14 Bear win, but Doug Brumfield went off against Idaho State, and now …

Week 3 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

This should be a fun shootout.

UNLV will find the overall pop to keep up, North Texas will be balanced, and these two will trade shots and big plays all game long.

North Texas vs Texas Southern Game Preview

Why Texas Southern Will Win

The Tigers were able to keep up for a while in the 40-23 loss to Prairie View A&M, but it couldn’t handle the running game. However, there’s a nice rotation of runners to give North Texas a few problems.

The Mean Green couldn’t do much to slow down SMU in last week’s 48-10 loss, and the offense hasn’t been able to open it up on the ground yet. It hasn’t been bad, but it’s not going to come up with the big, gashing runs that crushes Texas Southern.

CFN Expert Picks, Week 2

Why North Texas Will Win

The Tiger defense won’t be able to come up with enough stops to overcome the struggles on offense.

North Texas might not have been able to hold up against SMU’s O, but the attack has the parts to throw better, the D was terrific in the win over UTEP, and now it should all work against the porous Texas Southern defensive front.

SMU vs North Texas Game Preview

Why North Texas Will Win

North Texas looked fantastic in the season opener on the road, beating UTEP 31-13 with a big day from QB Austin Aune with decent help from the ground game.

The downfield passing attack worked – the Mean Green receivers are a problem – and now they’re going against a green SMU secondary that has a slew of nice parts, but hasn’t been tested.

The defense did a lot of bending but not breaking against the Miners. It needs to hold up against the run, the offensive line could stand to be a bit stronger for the ground game, and …

Week 1 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why SMU Will Win

The North Texas secondary has to tighten up a bit after allowing close to 300 yards last week.

It held firm in the second half, but now it has to deal with SMU’s attack and new head coach Rhett Lashlee. The passing game is going to kick in fast with veteran QB Tanner Mordecai and a phenomenal receiving corps about to blow up.

North Texas doesn’t have a high-end pass rush, and it’s going to have to deal with midrange completion after midrange completion.

This should be a bit of a shootout, and SMU is far better equipped for it.

Week 1 Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews, Saturday

What’s Going To Happen

SMU will have to take a few hits from a North Texas offense that’s going to keep the chains moving, but Mordecai and the offense will be balanced and explosive.

The Mustangs won 35-12 last year – it’s going to be more of an offensive show than that. More pass plays, more deep shots, and more fun – but with roughly the same result.
