Jared McCain has the highest NIL valuation of any player in the NCAA Men’s Tournament

Duke guard Jared McCain is one of only two men’s college basketball players in the tournament with an NIL value north of $1 million, per On3.

It shouldn’t come as a shock to hear that Jared McCain’s name, image, and likeness is worth quite a lot, but the actual amount is pretty staggering.

According to On3’s NILvaluations, the first-year Blue Devil is worth $1.1 million, the third-most of any men’s college basketball player and the highest among players in the NCAA Tournament.

McCain scored 30 points in the second round against James Madison, making a program tournament record eight 3-pointers in the process. He also tied a Duke freshman record with 35 points against Florida State in February.

On top of that, McCain’s social media presence, posting himself dancing and singing along to songs, has endeared him to Duke fans and others across the country. He has more than two million followers on TikTok and more than 750,000 followers on Instagram.

The only men’s college basketball players worth more than McCain in On3’s calculations are Bronny James of USC and Hansel Emmanuel from Austin Peay.

Kentucky freshman Rob Dillingham is the only other player in the men’s tournament with a seven-figure valuation, although three women’s players have also surpassed $1 million (Iowa’s Caitlin Clark and LSU’s Angel Reese and Flau’jae Johnson).

Five Alabama football players ranked in the top-100 of On3’s NIL Valuations

NIL has taken college athletics by storm, here is where some Alabama football stars are valued according to On3.

Name, image, and likeness have taken college athletics by storm over the past couple of years and one of the best tools to see which athletes are taking the most advantage of the new earnings rule is On3’s NIL Valuation.

On3’s valuation system estimates name, image, and likeness values for college athletes. On3 factors an athlete’s performance, exposure, and influence into their NIL Valuation. Currently, the most valuable college football player in the country is Texas freshman quarterback Arch Manning, who has an NIL Valuation of $2.8 million.

High school athletes are also able to earn from NIL and On3 also tracks their value. USC basketball signee Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, has the largest NIL Valuation across all college sports at $6.5 million.

Alabama currently has five players inside the top 100 of On3’s NIL Valuation. Let’s take a look at who they are, where they rank, and how valuable they are!

Bo Nix on draft valuation vs. NIL: ‘I don’t think I can make a bad decision’

Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix is weighing his options, with his NFL draft stock and NIL evaluation playing a major role in his decision.

The Oregon Ducks are still not sure who will be under center for the football team in 2023, with Bo Nix still undecided whether he will forego his eligibility and enter the 2023 NFL draft or if he will return for another go round in Eugene.

While Nix remains active in recruiting other players to join the Ducks next season, he acknowledged part of his decision revolves around the uncertainty of where he could end up going in the NFL draft – and how that compares to what he earns at Oregon through NIL deals.

“I think it’s tough because in my situation you can hear all sorts of things from where you could get drafted,” Nix told reporters on Friday. “I think that’s what kind of makes it, not confusing, but it makes you have a lot of decisions because you don’t know when you’re going to be drafted. And so then you got to compare your situation to college. And the value in the two decisions.”

If fans needed a reminder about the changing tides of college athletics in 2022, this certainly offers that. In previous years the decision a college athlete makes at this stage revolves around either making money in the pros, or staying in college and, well, not making money. At least not legally.

Now, players like Nix are trying to factor in NIL consideration along with potential draft stock to make the decision that best suits their needs, not just personally but financially as well.

Nix, who is still battling an ankle injury, is obviously a crucial piece for this Oregon team if he were to return for next season. A Heisman Trophy candidate before getting hurt against Washington, Nix would immediately put the Ducks in the conversation for a Pac-12 Championship and perhaps even a CFP spot next year should he return.

But, the allure of an NFL career is clearly tough to pass up, even without the financial aspect playing as big a role.

“There’s value in both,” Nix continued. “I don’t think I can make a bad decision.”

The Ducks take on North Carolina in the Holiday Bowl on December 28.

Where Oregon’s Dante Moore ranks among recruiting NIL valuations in 2023 class

Where does Dante Moore stack up when it comes to NIL valuation in the 2023 class? How much money does he stand to earn in Eugene?

In the new landscape of college football that came to bear once the rules on name, image and likeness were changed, an athlete is no longer looked at simply on the basis of what production he can bring on the field.

That athlete also has a chance to produce off of the field as well.

In the world of NIL, college athletes are allowed to get paid to promote themselves and products. Through collectives that have popped up around the nation, sponsors are pouring money into the college ranks and creating relationships with athletes. In turn, young players are starting to create brands and finding new ways to market themselves.

But who is worth what, and how much has that question had an impact on the college football recruiting world?

The answer to the latter half of that question is simple — a lot.

To answer the first part, though, we wanted to use the On3 NIL valuation tool. Based on an algorithm, On3 uses categories of performance, influence and exposure to try to create a dollar figure for incoming and existing college athletes, giving them a sense of how much money they can make through NIL deals. It isn’t a tracker of NIL deals that a player has already signed, but rather an estimate for how much they might be worth.

Some of the numbers seem lower than you might think, especially if you consider a few of the massive NIL deals that have reportedly been signed over the past year, some of which are upward of $7 million or more.

For Oregon Duck fans, where does five-star quarterback commit Dante Moore stand, and how much money does he stand to gain during his time in Eugene? The On3 valuation rankings give us a good sense:
