Seahawks vs. Lions: Best and worst PFF grades from Week 4

That trend continued on Sunday in Seattle’s 48-45 win over the Lions.

After four games, the story of the 2022 Seahawks is coming into focus. While Geno Smith and the offense are exceeding our wildest imagination, the defense is far worse than expected. That trend continued on Sunday in Seattle’s 48-45 win over the Lions.

Here are their best and worst performers this week, according to Pro Football Focus.

Seahawks add LB Tanner Muse to active roster, sign experienced LB to practice squad

Yesterday, the team announced the solution.

Heading into the 2022 season, the Seahawks roster was conspicuously thin at linebacker. After starters Jordyn Brooks and Cody Barton the only player listed on the depth chart was Nick Bellore, a fullback and special teams guy who hasn’t played a defensive snap since the 2017 season. Needless to say, Seattle had to address that at some point.

Yesterday, the team announced the solution: backup linebacker Tanner Muse has been signed to the active roster from the practice squad. Muse had been elevated for Week 1’s win over the Broncos. He made a couple of key special teams stops and was apparently good enough to earn a spot on the active 53-man roster. Muse was a former third-round pick by the Raiders in 2020 who appeared in six games for Seattle last year, all on special teams.

With Muse moving up to the active roster, the Seahawks had a hole to fill on the practice squad. That spot will go to linebacker Christian Jones. He played his college ball at Florida State then went undrafted. He first signed with the Bears in 2014, then spent a few seasons with the Lions before returning to Chicago last year. Jones offers plenty of experience, having appeared in 125 total games and making 74 starts.

Seahawks announce 2022 offensive, defensive and special teams captains

The Seattle Seahawks announced team captains for the 2022 season: WR Tyler Lockett, S Quandre Diggs, DT Al Woods and LB/FB Nick Bellore.

One week ahead of the home opener against Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos, the Seattle Seahawks have announced their team captains for the 2022 season.

The roster voted to elect the following four players: wide receiver Tyler Lockett as offensive captain, safety Quandre Diggs and defensive tackle Al Woods as defensive captains, and linebacker/fullback Nick Bellore to rep the special teams.

With Wilson having earned the honor the last nine seasons, this marks Lockett’s first go as a team captain.

“A beautiful recognition for a guy that’s always been a leader in this program and always been at the front of it,” coach Pete Carroll said. “He’s got the wisdom, and they recognize it and they really listen to him.”

On the defensive side of the ball, Carroll is equally impressed with the named leaders.

“Quandre Diggs is a guy that’s been a leader in this program, been part of it – big voice, big character, terrific football player that guys really look up to,” Carroll noted. “And speaking of looking up to in a big way, Al Woods up front really just brings all the voice and the stature and the work habits and the ethic that you want to lead.”

Finally, Carroll said special teams captain Bellore was “just an obvious pick.” “He’s just everything to everybody,” Carroll continued. “Playmaking, play style, mentality, all of that.”

Seahawks FB Nick Bellore dunks on D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett

Seahawks fullback Nick Bellore may be the best player on the roster when it comes to dunking on his teammates on Twitter.

Twitter is a great place if you’re hoping to enable the rising tide of Fascism that will soon engulf us all or if you just want to develop a mental health problem. It is good for jokes, though.

Seahawks fullback Nick Bellore may be the best player on the roster when it comes to dunking on his teammates on Twitter. Check out this photoshop he shared yesterday of D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

For you non-millennials: Metcalf’s head is on the body of Manute Bol, a 7-foot-7 center who was the tallest player in NBA history. Meanwhile, Lockett’s head is on Muggsy Bogues, a 5-foot-3 point guard who had plenty of game for his size. They played together on the Washington Bullets in the 90s before team was renamed the Wizards.

In real life Metcalf is only six inches taller than Lockett, but standing together it certainly looks like more.

These three individuals currently lead their respective positions in NFC Pro Bowl Fan Voting.

There’s not much to like about how the Seattle Seahawks’ season is going. While it’s easy to get lost in doom and gloom over Russell Wilson’s performance and what may come next offseason, it shouldn’t overshadow some of the fine work Seattle’s other players are doing.

Seahawks re-signing fullback/special teams star Nick Bellore

The Seattle Seahawks are re-signing fullback Nick Bellore, who was pivotal for the club on special teams last season.

The Seattle Seahawks will be re-signing fullback and special teams star Nick Bellore. The news was first reported by PFF’s Mike Renner.

Bellore is a journeyman in the league, having first entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent for the Jets in 2011. He played linebacker through the first half of his professional career before converting to fullback with the Lions.

He signed with Seattle in 2019 and has been a factor on special teams over the last two seasons.

With a new offensive coordinator at the helm in Shan Waldron, it’s still unclear how and if he plans to utilize a fullback going forward.
