The Falcons have named LB Kaden Elliss their game-day captain for Week 17

The Atlanta Falcons (7-8) have named linebacker Kaden Elliss their game-day captain for Sunday’s matchup against the Chicago Bears (6-9).

Elliss will join the team’s five regular-season captains — Jessie Bates, Grady Jarrett, Chris Lindstrom, Kaleb McGary and Younghoe Koo — in Week 17, per team reporter Terrin Waack.

Elliss, who signed with the Falcons in free agency, has been an impact player on defense this season. The former Saints linebacker has 110 tackles and three sacks.

The Falcons released their inactives list on Sunday morning and right tackle Kaleb McGary will return after missing the last two games.

Patriots name six team captains for the 2023 season

Here are the six Patriots team captains for the 2023 season.

The New England Patriots named six team captains for the 2023 regular season ahead of Sunday’s opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

All of the captains from the 2022 season remained intact, except for former safety Devin McCourty, who retired from football in the offseason. That paved the way for tight end Hunter Henry to step in as the newest team captain.

Henry is one of the team’s most dependable offensive playmakers, and he has also turned into a more vocal leader in the locker room. So the title certainly fits the seven-year NFL veteran.

The Patriots will need great leadership when navigating through the most difficult NFL schedule this season. Here are the official team captains of the 2023 season.

Jaguars announce 5 team captains for 2023 season

The Jaguars’ group of 2023 team captains features a couple of tenured players who received the honor for the first time.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced five permanent captains for the 2023 season on Tuesday. A sixth captain will be chosen by Jaguars coaches on a weekly basis.

While there were some obvious choices, like quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the team didn’t pick the same five players it did in 2022.

Defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris is a first-time captain, replacing outside linebacker Josh Allen as one of the two defensive captains. Allen previously spent three straight seasons as a Jaguars captain.

Special teams ace Andrew Wingard also earned captainship for the first time, replacing long-time punter Logan Cooke.

Here are the five Jaguars captains in 2023:

Raiders 2023 Team Captains includes newcomers Robert Spillane, Marcus Epps

Raiders announce 9 Team Captains including Josh Jacobs, Robert Spillane, Marcus Epps

Today the Raiders named nine team captains. Four on offense, three one defense, and two on special teams.

Those captains are as follows:

Offense

QB Jimmy Garoppolo
RB Josh Jacobs
WR Davante Adams
LT Kolton Miller

Defense

DE Maxx Crosby
LB Robert Spillane
S Marcus Epps

Special teams

K Daniel Carlson
P AJ Cole

Of note among the captains is Josh Jacobs who just took the practice field for the first time this week after sitting out all of camp until he received a new one-year deal in lieu of signing the franchise tag.

Also of note is Robert Spillane and Marcus Epps who signed with the team this offseason. They were chosen over returning starters at those positions Divine Deablo and Tre’von Moehrig.

Third year starting cornerback Nate Hobbs may have also been a fine choice as a captain. But no players who were captains last season were stripped of that status this year.

Anthony Richardson among Colts’ seven captains for 2023

Here are the team captains for the Colts in 2023.

The Indianapolis Colts players have voted on their team captains for the 2023 season, and the seven-player group was announced Thursday.

In a mix of youth and veterans, the list of the Colts’ captains shouldn’t come as a surprise. Only two of them are entering their first season with the “C” on their chest, one of which is rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Head coach Shane Steichen spoke about what that means for a rookie to be voted a captian.

“I think it’s big. It just shows what the team has thought about him. I mean these were not, there was no favoritism – these guys, it was their votes and they voted him to be one of the top seven captains,” Steichen told the media Thursday. “I’m excited for him to get that honor. I think that’s a big honor as a rookie. To get that just kind of really speaks volumes about what the team thinks about him.”

Here’s a look at the Colts’ captains for 2023:

Here are Chiefs’ 6 team captains for Super Bowl LVII

Reminder: These are the #Chiefs’ six team captains for Super Bowl LVII.

The Kansas City Chiefs do team captains a bit differently than other teams.

During the regular season, they have coin toss captains elected for each game, but the unique part is what happens during the playoffs run. Every year ahead of a playoff run, Chiefs players are asked to elect six players to serve as team captains. The coaching staff stays out of the completely player-driven process. The six players selected by their peers will serve as team captains as long as the playoff run lasts. For this particular season, that means they’ll persist through Super Bowl LVII.

The team originally announced the captains on January 15th, but they tweeted out a reminder with a photo of the six players from the AFC Championship Game:

From left to right: DT Chris Jones, P Tommy Townsend, RB Jerick Mckinnon, LB Nick Bolton, TE Travis Kelce and QB Patrick Mahomes.

After the AFC Championship Game, it’s hard to argue with any of these six players being worthy of being a team captain for the Super Bowl. Each of them played a massive part in the team’s ability to reach Super Bowl LVII, whether it be their performance against the Cincinnati Bengals a week ago or a look at what they’ve accomplished this season.

If you had to vote on a team captain for the playoffs, who would you choose? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below or on Facebook and Twitter.

Oklahoma announces captains for Red River Showdown with Texas

Oklahoma Sooners name the captains that will be leading them into the Cotton Bowl for their matchup with the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Showdown.

The Oklahoma Sooners look to break their two-game losing streak this Saturday against the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Showdown.

Ahead of one of the biggest games in college football’s long history, Oklahoma announced who will be representing the team as a captain in the Cotton Bowl.

Tight end Brayden Willis, guard Chris Murray, linebackers David Ugwoegbu and DaShaun White, and safety Justin Broiles will be leading the Sooners as they prepare for the Texas Longhorns.

Each player will be making their second appearance as a weekly captain for Oklahoma. This group represents some of the most veteran players on the roster. Reeling after two-straight losses, Oklahoma needs leadership now more than ever.

Take a look at some of the best pictures of Oklahoma’s captains during their time at Oklahoma.

Falcons name 5 team captains for 2022 NFL season

Grady Jarrett and Younghoe Koo were among the five Falcons selected as team captains for the 2022 season.

It’s been a long, complicated offseason for the Atlanta Falcons, but finally the 2022 regular season has arrived. On Sunday, the New Orleans Saints return to Atlanta for the first time since defeating the Falcons in last year’s season finale.

Atlanta announced five captains for the regular season on Saturday morning, with one additional spot to be given out weekly. Here’s a look at the five captains.

Raiders announce 2022 team captains

Raiders will have 8 team captains this season

Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels took to the podium for the last time prior to the team’s season opener against the Chargers. His first order of business? Naming the 2022 team captains.

McDaniels was generous with his team captains too, naming eight of them — three on offense, three on defense, and two on special teams

Offense:

QB Derek Carr
WR Davante Adams
T Kolton Miller

Defense:

LB Denzel Perryman
DE Maxx Crosby
S Duron Harmon

Special Teams:

P AJ Cole
WR Mack Hollins

The somewhat surprising players among the team captains are Duron Harmon and Mack Hollins.

Harmon may not even start at safety, with Johnathan Abram and Tre’von Moehrig starting there. And Hollins gets the nod as a kick coverage and blocking specialist.

All the others make perfect sense.

This is Miller’s first time as team captain. Last season the offensive lineman Jon Gruden named as team captain was Richie Incognito who didn’t end up playing a single game due to a calf injury.

Derek Carr and Maxx Crosby are the only captains from last season who return as captains this season.

Josh Jacobs and Darren Waller were team captains last season as well and neither are team captains this time around.
