Dolphins sign WR Freddie Swain to their practice squad

He’s back again.

The Miami Dolphins made a number of roster moves last week involving their wide receivers.

River Cracraft was placed on injured reserve and Erik Ezukanma was placed on the non-football injury list. Miami then signed Robbie Chosen from their active roster from their practice squad.

According to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, the Dolphins have filled that practice squad spot by signing Freddie Swain.

Swain, 25, is a familiar name for Dolphins fans as he’s had two prior stints with the team, one in 2022 and one this past offseason.

In his career, he’s recorded 42 receptions for 576 yards and six touchdowns.

Swain also joins Braylon Sanders and Raleigh Webb as receivers on the practice squad.

Eagles sign WR Freddie Swain ahead of preseason finale

The Philadelphia #Eagles have signed wide receiver Freddie Swain ahead of preseason finale vs. Colts

The Eagles have added another wide receiver to the roster before the preseason finale against the Indianapolis Colts.

Philadelphia had an open roster spot following the retirement of linebacker Myles Jack and signed Swain after a Tuesday afternoon workout.

Swain signed with Miami as a free agent in March but was waived with an injury designation on August 13.

A former sixth-round pick of the Seahawks out of Florida with ties to OC Brian Johnson, Swain has 42 career catches for 576 yards and six touchdowns in 37 games (10 starts).

11 free agents the Seahawks should consider for added WR depth

While Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf remain untouched and Jake Bobo is blossoming into a real threat, the Seahawks could use some help while these guys are out.

The Seattle Seahawks might have the best and deepest wide receiver room in the entire league this year. However, a rash of injuries can bring down even the greatest units and right now this group is a little bit thin.

To recap the slew of injuries at the wide receiver position, first-round draft pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba fractured his wrist in Saturday night’s win over the Cowboys and could miss the next 3-4 weeks according to head coach Pete Carroll. Super-athletic second-year wideout Dareke Young is also out with a hip injury that may require surgery and to top it off Dee Eskridge will be suspended for the first six games of the regular season.

While stars Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf remain untouched and undrafted rookie Jake Bobo is blossoming into a real threat, the Seahawks could still use some help while these guys are out. Here are 11 free agents who would at least add some more depth.

Miami Dolphins release former Gators WR dealing with injury

Freddie Swain is available for grabs after the ‘Fins let him go on Sunday.

Former Florida Gators wide receiver [autotag]Freddie Swain[/autotag] was released by the Miami Dolphins on Sunday after returning to the franchise this summer for a second try. The former sixth-round pick (214th overall) in the 2020 NFL draft has bounced around a bit since his departure from the Seattle Seahawks.

The fourth-year pass-catcher is also dealing with a mild hamstring pull that should not keep him out longer than a week, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. However, that muscle tweak could make it difficult to land with another team ahead of the coming season.

On that note, if Swain does go unclaimed, he would return to Miami on the practice squad — where he spent the start of the 2022 campaign as well. In that case, the receiver could either see action after four games or an injury settlement can be agreed upon.

A member of Florida’s 2016 recruiting class, the Ocala, Florida, product had a prolific career in Gainesville that stretched over four years and 36 games, grabbing 68 receptions for 996 yards and 15 touchdowns while also averaging 7.9 yards per punt return across 39 attempts with a touchdown.

His first two years in the NFL saw regular action, playing in 16 (one start) and 17 (eight starts) games, respectively. Swain amassed 38 receptions for 502 yards and six touchdowns over those 33 games but was cut during the 2022 preseason, which has since left him in a bit of limbo.

Between his two stints with Miami, he also signed with the Denver Broncos last season where he played in three games with a start, catching four out of six targeted passes for 74 yards and three first downs. He also appeared in a game for Miami but did not log any stats.

Dolphins sign ex-Broncos WR Freddie Swain and TE Eric Saubert

The Dolphins claimed ex-Broncos WR Freddie Swain off waivers and agreed to terms with ex-Denver TE Eric Saubert on a 1-year deal.

The Miami Dolphins doubled up on former Denver Broncos pass catches on Wednesday.

First, the Dolphins claimed wide receiver Freddie Swain off waivers. Swain, 24, dressed for three games with the Broncos last season, catching four passes for 74 yards. He was waived by Denver on Tuesday.

After that, Miami agreed to terms on a one-year deal with former Broncos tight end Eric Saubert. The 28-year-old tight end spent the last two seasons in Denver, primarily contributing on offense as a blocking tight end.

Saubert totaled 23 receptions for 195 yards and two touchdowns in 34 games (10 starts) with the Broncos. The team chose to let Saubert walk in free agency this spring, replacing him with new addition Chris Manhertz.

Denver’s current tight ends are Greg Dulcich, Albert Okwuegbunam and Manhertz. The team might add another budget TE (Eric Tomlinson is available, for example), and the Broncos will also have options in the NFL draft and undrafted free agency next month.

WR Freddie Swain claimed off waivers by Dolphins

He spent some time with Miami in 2022.

While the Miami Dolphins are looking to improve their roster for the 2023 season, they’ve addressed a lot of their skill positions.

On Wednesday, they were awarded wide receiver Freddie Swain off of waivers from the Denver Broncos. That name may sound familiar to Dolphins fans because he spent some time with Miami last season.

Swain joins Erik Ezukanma and Braylon Sanders as depth receivers on the Dolphins roster.

He appeared in four games in 2022, recording four receptions for 74 yards.

Broncos made several roster moves on Wednesday

The Broncos signed RB Tyreik McAllister and LB Wyatt Ray to the practice squad, and WR Freddie Swain joined the 53-man roster.

Denver Broncos general manager George Paton continues making moves to the backend of the team’s roster.

After placing running back Mike Boone on injured reserve and parting ways with two practice squad players on Tuesday, Paton made four more roster moves on Wednesday.

First, the Broncos placed outside linebacker Jacob Martin (knee) on IR. His roster spot might be filled by fellow pass rusher Randy Gregory (knee), who is back at practice this week and eligible to be activated off IR.

Second, Denver officially signed wide receiver Freddie Swain off the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad to the active roster. The Broncos had a spot for Swain on the 53-man roster after placing Boone on IR.

Finally, Denver made two additions to the practice squad, adding running back Tyreik McAllister and linebacker Wyatt Ray. The Broncos had two open spots after cutting defensive lineman McTelvin Agim and losing guard Netane Muti to the Raiders on Tuesday.

On the injury front, right tackle Billy Turner also returned to practice this week, and he is eligible to be activated from IR once cleared to play.

Broncos made several roster moves on Tuesday

After placing RB Mike Boone on IR, the Broncos are adding WR Freddie Swain.

The Denver Broncos made several changes to their roster on Tuesday.

First, the Broncos placed running back Mike Boone on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Because there are only four games left this year, Boone’s season is now over.

To fill Boone’s former spot on the 53-man roster, Denver signed wide receiver Freddie Swain off the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Swain played with Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson from 2020-2021, catching 38 passes for 502 yards and six touchdowns in 33 games with the Seattle Seahawks.

Additionally, Denver released defensive lineman McTelvin Agim from the practice squad. A former third-round pick in 2020, Agim never lived up to his high draft status with the Broncos.

Denver also lost backup guard Netane Muti on Tuesday — he left the team’s practice squad to join the Las Vegas Raiders’ active roster.

After cutting Agim and losing Muti, the Broncos have two open spots on the practice squad. Denver might save those two spots for players cut this week to make room for other players returning from injured reserve.

Broncos outside linebacker Randy Gregory (knee) and safety Caden Sterns (hip) are both eligible to return from IR, but the Broncos will have to make room for them on the 53-man roster.

Dolphins lose one practice squad WR, sign another

More practice squad transactions.

While it was reported that the Miami Dolphins would be losing cornerback Kalon Barnes to the Minnesota Vikings, two more moves have been reported involving the team’s practice squad.

According to 9News’ Mike Klis, practice squad wideout Freddie Swain was signed to the Denver Broncos active roster. Swain was elevated for the first time this season against the Los Angeles Chargers. He played seven offensive snaps but was unable to draw a target.

KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson is also reporting that Miami has filled one of their two open practice squad spots by signing wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton.

Hamilton, 27, entered the NFL as a fourth-round selection of the Broncos back in 2018. In his first three seasons with the team, he recorded 81 receptions for 833 yards and five touchdowns before missing the final year of his rookie deal with a torn ACL.

He spent part of this past offseason with the Houston Texans but was waived back in June.

This gives Miami experienced depth, as Tyreek Hill, River Cracraft and Jaylen Waddle have all been dealing with injuries in the last two weeks.

Dolphins elevate WR Freddie Swain vs. Chargers

River Cracraft is listed as doubtful.

Ahead of the Miami Dolphins’ Sunday night matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, the team has brought up a wide receiver to the active roster.

Miami elevated Freddie Swain on Saturday, giving him a chance to make his debut for the Dolphins.

Swain recorded 38 receptions for 502 yards and six touchdowns with the Seattle Seahawks over the last two years.

With River Cracraft doubtful for the matchup, Swain may get some opportunities in a strong offense and on special teams.
