2024 projected win totals for AFC North teams

We’re looking at a ranking of 2024 win total projections for all four AFC North teams

The Ravens (13-4) were the No. 1 seed in the AFC and had a first-round bye after navigating one of the NFL’s most demanding schedules.

With a first-place finish in 2023, the schedule will only get even more complicated, and after the late Sunday afternoon games, we have some unofficial idea of what the 2024 slate will look like.

Baltimore will play nine games on the road, eight at M&T Bank Stadium.

The schedule will be highlighted by matchups against their AFC North foes (Steelers, Bengals, Browns), the NFC East, AFC West, the AFC South champ, the NFC South champ, and the AFC East champion.

The league uses multiple factors to determine the year’s game schedule.

There’s a cycle of inter-conference faceoffs; each NFC division rotates through each AFC division every four seasons and the other NFC divisions every three seasons.

In addition, where a team finishes within their division dictates a same-finish matchup with one team from the opposite conference and whichever divisions aren’t in the rotation for that season.

Offering an early glimpse into where the Ravens could finish this season, we’re looking at total win projection for all four AFC North squads.

Ranking all 32 teams (including the Bucs) by 2024 strength of schedule

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may be playing a first-place schedule, but thanks to the general woefulness of the NFC South, their overall strength of schedule is among the league’s lowest.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are once again playing a first-place schedule in 2024, but thankfully, the division they’re in will be kind to them.

The Bucs won the NFC South in 2023, but they did it with a 9-8 record — as such, their first-place schedule in the NFC South is one of the easiest in the entire league per strength of schedule, and the rest of the teams in the division will face similar opponents. On the flip side, teams in a brutal division like the AFC North are set to have one of the hardest schedules in football next year, and that particularly applies to teams like the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.

Here’s a complete ranking of every team’s strength of schedule in 2024, including the Bucs:

Broncos to face NFL’s 13th-easiest strength of schedule in 2024

The Broncos are set to face the NFL’s 13th-easiest strength of schedule in 2024 (.495).

We don’t know dates and times for the Denver Broncos’ 2024 schedule yet (that will be announced in May), but we do know all of the team’s 2024 opponents.

Based on records from the 2023 season, the Broncos will face the 13th-easiest strength of schedule in 2024 (.495). The Los Angeles Chargers (.478) are the only team in the AFC West with an easier SOS (sixth).

Elsewhere in the division, the Kansas City Chiefs (.502) have the 16th-easiest SOS. The Las Vegas Raiders (.512) will face the NFL’s eighth-hardest SOS in 2024.

The toughest opponents on Denver’s 2024 schedule based on 2023 records are the Baltimore Ravens (13-4), Cleveland Browns (11-6) and Chiefs (11-6).

Last year, the Broncos had the 12th-hardest strength of schedule (.517) and the team went 8-9. Denver will aim to improve on that record in 2024 when the club faces a schedule that looks easier on paper than last year’s slate.

Here’s a look at every team’s SOS for the upcoming season.

NFL 2023: Eagles have hardest, Falcons have easiest strength of schedule

Take a look at which NFL teams have the hardest and easiest strength of schedule for 2023.

The 2023 NFL schedule release will clarify when and where all 32 teams will play their 17-game slate, but there are still some aspects to the schedule that are already known.

Even the opponents are known. Thanks to the NFL’s scheduling formula from 2002 — and updated to accommodate a 17th game in 2021 — fans can be assured of who will be visiting and where their team will be traveling for years to come. The only true variables are the same place finisher games.

Strength of schedule is another aspect that is already known about the 2023 slate. By adding up the combined 2022 wins, losses, and ties from their 2023 opponents, teams are able to understand their strength of schedule.

Here is a look at the strength of schedule for each team.

Texans have 19th most difficult strength of schedule in 2022

The Houston Texans are No. 19 when it comes to strength of schedule in 2022.

The Houston Texans have been projected to win around four games in 2022. However, they won’t be taking a colossal beating the entire time.

The Texans rank No. 19 in strength of schedule. Their 2021 opponents compiled a 141-148 record — a .488 winning percentage.

Houston gets the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titans home and away as part of being in the AFC South.

The Texans’ home slate includes the Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington.

Houston goes on the road to face the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Las Vegas Raiders, Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins.

Across the rest of the AFC South, the Titans are tied with the Bears for the eighth-easiest strength of schedule at .471 (135-152-2). The Jaguars and Colts are tied for the sixth-easiest strength of schedule at .469 (135-153-1).

The NFL schedule will be released in its entirety on May 12.

Ravens have the easiest strength of schedule in 2020

Thanks to having to play against the AFC North, AFC South and NFC East, the Baltimore Ravens have the easiest-looking NFL schedule in 2020.

The Baltimore Ravens posted a franchise-best 14-2 record last season. And for their regular-season dominance in 2019, the Ravens now get rewarded with the easiest schedule in 2020 apparently.

With the 2019 season completely in the books after the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV, every team’s final winning percentage has been figured out. Eric Ting of SFGate calculated those winning percentages and ranked them to figure out who has the hardest and easiest schedule accordingly.

Though free agency and the draft will affect every franchise, making this more of a fun exercise that should be taken with a grain of salt, Baltimore has the easiest set of opponents. On the opposite side is the New England Patriots, who have the toughest schedule based on 2019’s records.

Part of the appearance of an easier schedule comes thanks to the AFC North taking a massive step back as a division last season, with the three other teams posting a 16-32 combined record. And thanks to the way the schedule works, Baltimore and the rest of the AFC North will square off against the AFC South and NFC East next season, with their combined 56-72 records.

But don’t cry for the Ravens quite yet. Baltimore will still have to face off against five teams that made this most recent postseason. And with an entire offseason for teams to get better, there are no guarantees the Ravens’ easier-looking schedule will actually be that way when the 2020 NFL season finally kicks off.
