Broncos will face these opponents in 2024 NFL season

Before the schedule is announced in May, here is a look at the Broncos’ opponents for the 2024 NFL season.

Welcome to the NFL offseason.

We do not have the Denver Broncos’ 2024 schedule yet (that will arrive in May), but we do know all of the team’s opponents.

Intriguing matchups on the team’s schedule will include tough road matchups against the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals, plus coach Sean Payton’s return to Louisiana to face his old team, the New Orleans Saints.

After going 8-9 in his first season with the Broncos in 2023, Payton will aim to get Denver back into the playoff hunt in 2024. The Broncos have not returned to the postseason since they won Super Bowl 50 in 2015.

Here’s a look at the team’s list of 2024 opponents.

Home Away
Kansas City Chiefs Kansas City Chiefs
Las Vegas Raiders Las Vegas Raiders
Los Angeles Chargers Los Angeles Chargers
Cleveland Browns Baltimore Ravens
Pittsburgh Steelers New Orleans Saints
Atlanta Falcons Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Carolina Panthers Cincinnati Bengals
Indianapolis Colts New York Jets
Seattle Seahawks

Broncos won’t play an international game in 2024

The Broncos won’t have an international game in 2024. Denver will host eight games and the Broncos will play nine road games stateside.

We already know the Denver Broncos’ upcoming opponents, and we’ll find out the team’s full 2024 schedule with dates and times in May.

We also know that the Broncos will not play abroad this fall.

The NFL has announced the “home” teams for the five international games in 2024 and none of them are set to host Denver next season.

The Philadelphia Eagles (Brazil), Chicago Bears (England), Minnesota Vikings (England), Jacksonville Jaguars (England) and Carolina Panthers (Germany) will “host” games outside the United States this fall.

The Broncos do have the Panthers on their list of 2024 opponents, but that game will be played at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver. So the Broncos won’t have an international game during the 2024 season.

Denver last played abroad in 2022 when they defeated the Jaguars 21-17 at Wembley Stadium in London. Each NFL team is required to play at least one international game every eight years. Beginning in 2025, up to eight international games will be scheduled each season. That would involve 16 teams, giving half the league an international game each year.

So the Broncos will likely have another international game in the not-too-distant future, and Mexico is the most likely location. The NFL won’t play in Mexico in 2024 due to construction at Estadio Azteca. Once those renovations are complete, Denver will be a strong candidate to play in Mexico. This year, though, all of the team’s games will be played in the USA.

Broncos to face NFL’s 13th-easiest strength of schedule in 2024

The Broncos are set to face the NFL’s 13th-easiest strength of schedule in 2024 (.495).

We don’t know dates and times for the Denver Broncos’ 2024 schedule yet (that will be announced in May), but we do know all of the team’s 2024 opponents.

Based on records from the 2023 season, the Broncos will face the 13th-easiest strength of schedule in 2024 (.495). The Los Angeles Chargers (.478) are the only team in the AFC West with an easier SOS (sixth).

Elsewhere in the division, the Kansas City Chiefs (.502) have the 16th-easiest SOS. The Las Vegas Raiders (.512) will face the NFL’s eighth-hardest SOS in 2024.

The toughest opponents on Denver’s 2024 schedule based on 2023 records are the Baltimore Ravens (13-4), Cleveland Browns (11-6) and Chiefs (11-6).

Last year, the Broncos had the 12th-hardest strength of schedule (.517) and the team went 8-9. Denver will aim to improve on that record in 2024 when the club faces a schedule that looks easier on paper than last year’s slate.

Here’s a look at every team’s SOS for the upcoming season.

Broncos won’t play in London or Germany next season

The Broncos will not play in England or Germany next season. Teams for the Brazil game have not been announced yet.

The NFL has announced four designated “home” teams for international games in 2024, and the Denver Broncos are not among them.

The Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars will “host” games in London, England and the Carolina Panthers will be the “home” team for a game in Munich, Germany next fall.

We know the Broncos won’t be the “away” team for the London or Germany games because the Bears, Vikings and Jaguars are not on Denver’s 2024 schedule, and the team’s game against the Panthers will be played at home.

There is one more international game on the NFL’s 2024 schedule set to be played in São Paulo, Brazil, but the Broncos are also unlikely to play in that contest.

The Miami Dolphins seem likely to be chosen as the “home” team for the Brazil game, but that has not been officially announced yet (the NFL said Thursday that the Brazil home team will be revealed “in the coming months”).

If Miami is the Brazil host as expected, Denver won’t have an international game next season because the Dolphins are not on the Broncos’ list of 2024 opponents.

Denver will play an international game by 2030 because every team is required to play at least one international contest every eight years (the club played in London in 2022).

If the Broncos are selected as a future “home” team, their most likely international destination is Mexico. The NFL will not play an international game in Mexico in 2024 due to Estadio Azteca renovations, but the league plans to return to Mexico City once those renovations are complete.

Denver Broncos’ 2024 opponents are now finalized

We now know all of the Broncos’ opponents for the 2024 season, including Sean Payton making a return to New Orleans to face the Saints.

The Denver Broncos’ 2023 season came to an end on Sunday with a 27-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, marking the seventh straight year that Denver has missed the playoffs.

With the loss, the Broncos clinched a third-place finish in the AFC West, which means they will face the same-place finishers from the AFC South (Indianapolis Colts), AFC East (New York Jets) and NFC West (Seattle Seahawks) in 2024.

Denver’s list of 2024 opponents also includes a trip to Louisiana, setting up coach Sean Payton with a showdown against his former team, the New Orleans Saints.

Additionally, the team’s road schedule includes a trip east to visit the Baltimore Ravens, the AFC’s No. 1 team in 2023.

While we already know the opponents, the full 2024 NFL schedule with dates and times will not be announced until May. The league has announced its schedule between May 12-13 over the last three years. Fans can expect a similar timeline for this year’s announcement.

While we wait, here’s a look ahead at the Broncos’ future opponents for the 2024 schedule, with eight games at home and nine on the road.

Denver Broncos 2023 Schedule

The Broncos have one game remaining on their 2023 schedule. Denver can finish with a winning record if they beat the Raiders on Sunday.

The Denver Broncos will face the Las Vegas Raiders in their final game of the 2023 NFL season on Sunday afternoon.

Already eliminated from playoff contention, the Broncos will aim to finish the 2023 season on a positive note. If Denver beats the Raiders in Week 18, the Broncos will finish the year with a winning (9-8) record.

Sunday’s game will determine final 3 opponents on Broncos’ 2024 schedule

The result of the Raiders game will dictate the Broncos’ opponents from the AFC South (home), AFC East (away) and NFC West (away) in 2024.

Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders does not have playoff implications for the Denver Broncos, but it does have 2024 implications.

If the Broncos win on Sunday, they will clinch second place in the AFC West. If Denver loses, Denver will clinch third place in the division. The team’s final standing in the division matters for the Broncos’ 2024 schedule.

We already know most of Denver’s opponents for next year due to the NFL’s rotating scheduling format, but three games are yet to be determined.

The Broncos will face same-place finishers from the AFC South (home), AFC East (away) and NFC West (away). If Denver finishes second in the AFC West, they will face the second-place teams from those respective divisions (and a third-place finish would net third-place opponents).

In addition to the Broncos-Raiders game, the results of three other games will also come into play this weekend because the AFC South is wide open and the AFC East is going down to the wire.

With the final three teams yet to be finalized, here’s a quick look at Denver’s known 2024 opponents so far.

Denver Broncos 2023 Schedule

The Broncos have two games left on their 2023 schedule.

The Denver Broncos are set to host the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 17 of the 2023 NFL season on Sunday afternoon.

The Broncos will play nine games at their home Empower Field at Mile High Stadium this year and eight games on the road. Because the league has an unbalanced 17-game schedule, the NFC and AFC rotate between having an extra home game. This year, the AFC gets a ninth home game.

Denver Broncos 2023 Schedule

The Broncos have three games left to attempt to get into the NFL playoffs.

The Denver Broncos are set to take on the New England Patriots in Week 16 of the 2023 NFL season in a Christmas Eve showdown at Empower Field at Mile High.

The Broncos will play nine games at their home Empower Field at Mile High Stadium this year and eight games on the road. Because the league has an unbalanced 17-game schedule, the NFC and AFC rotate between having an extra home game. This year, the AFC gets a ninth home game.

Denver quarterback Russell Wilson will aim to bounce back this fall after a disappointing first season with the Broncos in 2022. Wilson should be helped by the arrival of new head coach Sean Payton, a QB guru.

Broncos’ list of 2024 opponents still in flux

Most of the Broncos’ 2024 opponents are already known, but same-place finishers from the AFC South, AFC East and NFC West are TBD.

Because the NFL has a set formula for the league’s rotating schedule, we already know most of the Denver Broncos’ 2024 opponents. However, three of the team’s future opponents are yet to be determined based on 2023 standings.

Usually, at this time of year, we have a good idea of who the TBD teams are likely to be based on division standings, but several division races are still wide open going into the final stretch of the 2023 season.

The Broncos will face same-place finishers from the AFC South (home), AFC East (road) and NFC West (road) in 2024. Right now, Denver (7-7) seems likely to finish in second place in the AFC West.

The Buffalo Bills (8-6) seem more likely than the Miami Dolphins (10-4) to finish in second place in the AFC East, but with three games remaining, anything could happen.

In the NFC west, the Los Angeles Rams (7-7) seem like the favorites to finish in second place, but the Seattle Seahawks (7-7) are still in the mix as well.

The division most in flux is the AFC South — the Jacksonville Jaguars (8-6), Indianapolis Colts (8-6) and Houston Texans (8-6) are in an extremely tight race.

With their AFC South, AFC East and NFC West opponents still TBD, here’s a quick look ahead to the Broncos’ 2024 opponents, courtesy of fbschedules.com.
