Brian Burns, who spent the first five years of his NFL career with Carolina, was particularly hurt by the loss.
“Yeah, it hurt,” he told reporters. “You know, losing like that and losing to a team I spent extended amount of time with hurt, and seeing all those faces that was in the building was a little tough. But it was straight. I was happy to see them.”
Burns was a notable performer against his former team, but in the end, the Giants left Munich with a loss to one, if not the worst team in the NFL.
Burns had a sack less than a minute into the game, one of two tackles for a loss, and nine total tackles on the day.
Ahead of Sunday’s game, Burns made it clear he was taking a business-as-usual approach to preparing for the matchup against his former team and claimed he held no grudge against the franchise.
While he had an impressive individual performance against his former team, both Burns and his new team would have certainly liked to come away with a win.
The Jaguars (1-5) were blown out under the national spotlight in Week 6, falling 35-16 to the Bears (4-2) on Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Rookie quarterback and Chicago’s No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, Caleb Williams, had a career day against Jacksonville’s woeful pass defense, reaching early single-game career-highs with four touchdown passes and a 79.3% completion rate.
Williams found Chicago tight end Cole Kmet and wide receiver Keenan Allen for two scores each, and finished the contest with 226 passing yards.
Jaguars safety Andre Cisco recorded the team’s first interception of the season, the only highlight in an otherwise abysmal showing by Jacksonville’s secondary, one of multiple this year.
Accordingly, the Jaguars and quarterback Trevor Lawrence were tasked with keeping up with Williams and the Bears, to no avail.
Lawrence largely appeared up for the task, finishing the game 23-of-35 passing for 234 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
Lawrence had a few misses including an underthrown pass that could have ended in a deep touchdown pass to Brian Thomas Jr. But drops by his receivers hampered him more, including two by Gabe Davis (both in scoring position), one by Thomas and one by Christian Kirk.
Tight end Evan Engram shined in his return from a four-week hamstring injury, catching 10 passes for 102 yards. But even he could not hold onto the ball at one point, fumbling at the end of a 24-yard catch-and-run.
Chicago capitalized seven plays and 41 yards after Engram’s fumble, on Williams’ first end zone connection with Allen.
Lawrence’s interception occurred on the first play of Jacksonville’s next series. Chicago made a pattern of scoring off turnovers, with Williams finding Allen again for a touchdown after going three plays for 36 yards.
The Jaguars pulled Lawrence late in the fourth quarter when it was clear the Bears would emerge victorious. Backup Jacksonville quarterback Mac Jones went one-of-one passing for six yards.
The Jaguars will remain in London for Week 7 and will host the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium next Sunday, at 9:30 a.m. ET /2:30 p.m. BST.

Analysis: The biggest news from Jacksonville’s inactive list is that star tight end Evan Engram was not on the report, meaning he will return to play following a four-week absence due to a hamstring injury.
TE Evan Engram is officially active for Jacksonville vs. Chicago.
Jacksonville listed three players alongside Engram as questionable to play against Chicago on its final injury report: Wide receiver Gabe Davis, linebacker Yasir Abdullah and safety Daniel Thomas. Each player is active for Week 6.
Bears inactive list
WR Velus Jones Jr.
OL Nate Davis
DL Zacch Pickens
DL Dominique Robinson
DB Tyrique Stevenson
DB Jaquan Brisker
DB Terrel Smith
Analysis: Considered doubtful on Friday, star Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson is officially inactive, meaning Chicago will be down two starting defensive backs as safety Jaquan Brisker was ruled out earlier in the week.
Here’s the Eagles’ complete 2024 regular-season schedule with dates and times
The wait is finally over. The NFL has unveiled the Eagles’ complete 2024 regular-season schedule, which will see Philadelphia play five games in prime time.
The regular-season opener against the Green Bay Packers in São Paulo, Brazil, is now just 114 days away.
Lions officially have no international games on the 2024 NFL schedule
The NFL has released the slate of regular season games that will be played outside the United States in 2024. As expected, the Detroit Lions are not featured in any of the five international games this season.
It’s been quite some time since the Lions played overseas. The last time Detroit left the country for a game in the regular season was back in 2015, when the Jim Caldwell-led Lions lost to the Chiefs, a game that led to Detroit firing offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi.
The Lions were not expected to get any international games in 2024 once the initial list of opponents was known. The five games that will be played outside the U.S. do feature some NFC North rivals, however.
There’s a fair chance the Lions will play abroad in 2025. Only the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys have gone longer without participating in the NFL’s international series.
The Panthers will be hosting Brian Burns and the Giants out of Munich, Germany in Week 10.
Guten Morgen, Carolina Panthers fans!
Ahead of tonight’s full 2024 regular-season schedule release, the NFL officially announced its slate of international games this morning. And the Panthers, as previously announced, have stamped their tickets to Munich, Germany—where they’ll be joined by the New York Giants.
The overseas clash will take place in Week 10 on Nov. 10 at 9:30 a.m. ET. Carolina will play host from Allianz Arena, home of FC Bayern Munich.
Owner David Tepper said the following in the official statement released by the team back in January:
“It’s an honor for the Carolina Panthers to play in Munich in 2024. This game represents more than playing internationally for us. With more than 200 German-owned companies in the Charlotte area, this opportunity offers a special connection for the Panthers and our community. We are excited to deepen our relationships with our German fans, engage with our partners, and continue to grow our brand globally.”
One of the major storylines of this Munich matchup should be the “return” of two-time Pro Bowler Brian Burns, who spent his five first NFL seasons in Carolina. The Panthers traded Burns to the Giants on March 11.
There’s only one team the 49ers could play in London this year if they have an international game:
Deebo Samuel on Tuesday made some waves in the portion of the internet occupied by 49ers fans when a video posted to the official NFL UK and Ireland account showed the 49ers wide receiver teasing big news.
The immediate and easy conclusion to jump to is the 49ers could be one of the teams playing internationally this season.
International games haven’t officially been announced yet, but the NFL did announce the Vikings, Jaguars and Bears will all host a game in London. The Panthers are slated to host a game in Munich, and the Packers will face the Eagles in Brazil. Opponents for the three London games and the one Munich game haven’t been announced.
There’s certainly a chance the 49ers are among the teams going to London and it’s not hard to whittle down what team they’d play. Since all the announced teams will host, the game would be a “road” game for San Francisco. The Vikings are the only one of those teams the 49ers are slated to face on the road. Their game against the Bears will be at Levi’s Stadium.
The 49ers last played internationally in 2022 when they faced the Arizona Cardinals in Mexico City. They haven’t played in London since they blew out the Jaguars 42-10 at Wembley Stadium.
We’ll find out the 49ers’ international fate May 15 when the NFL schedule is released.
