Giants draw 13th-hardest schedule in 2024 per one analyst’s metric

Based on their strength of schedule metrics, Sharp Football Analysis lists the New York Giants with the 13th-hardest schedule in 2024.

The New York Giants, who finished 6-11 in 2023, will not be receiving much relief from the schedule makers in 2024.

According to Sharp Football Analysis, the Giants will have the 13th-most difficult schedule for the 2024 NFL season based on their strength of schedule metrics.

The Giants, whose Sharp lists with over/under win total of 6.5, will face the AFC North (Baltimore, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh) and the NFC South (Atlanta, Carolina, New Orleans and Tampa Bay) in addition to the NFC East schedule.

In their two at-large games against the other third-place NFC finishers, the Giants will face Minnesota and Seattle. Their fifth out-of-conference contest will be against Indianapolis.

The Atlanta Falcons have the easiest schedule, per Sharp, while the Pittsburgh Steelers drew the hardest.

Wisconsin has one of college football’s toughest schedules in 2024

Wisconsin has one of college football’s toughest schedules in 2024

Wisconsin football enters a new world in 2024.

Gone is the annual parachute of playing in the Big Ten West, and the benefit of only needing to go 6-3 or 7-2 in Big Ten play to make the conference championship game.

Now, the schedule’s difficulty increases greatly moving forward. Wisconsin faces more blue blood teams on a week-in, week-out basis, and also now must navigate the schedule with one or two losses to have a hope at a conference title.

Related:Β Which Big Ten football team has the toughest conference schedule in 2024?

It’s the new era of the Big Ten, and no teams are as greatly affected as those that enjoyed the peace and quiet of the Big Ten West.

Wisconsin’s 2024 schedule, specifically, isn’t only one of the toughest in the conference. It’s also one of the toughest in the nation.

Phil Steele’s annual college football preview magazine ranks each program’s schedule based on 2023’s results. Here is his ranking of the toughest schedules in college football in 2024:

Ranking all 32 NFL teams by 2024 strength of schedule (including the Cowboys)

The Cowboys were thought to have a tough schedule entering 2023, what does it look like for them and the league in 2024? | From @KDDrummondNFL

While the actual schedules won’t come out for several months, the world already knows who is going to be on the Dallas Cowboys slate of 2024 opponents. Two factors go into developing a team’s competitors each year. There’s a cycle of inter-conference faceoffs; each NFC division rotates through each AFC division every four seasons and the other NFC divisions every three seasons.

In addition, where a team finishes within their division dictates a same-finish matchup with one team from the opposite conference and whichever divisions aren’t in the rotation for that season. With those parameters, a 17-game slate is created and with that slate is embedded a certain level of perceived difficulty.

Perceived is the operative word here, because things change year to year. How a team finishes can be an indicator of who they will be the next year but somethings it is not.

Following the end of the 2022 season, the Cowboys were seen to have a hideously difficult schedule, ranking fourth overall with a .549 opponent’s combined winning percentage. But when the season actually played out, Dallas had the third-easiest slate (.446), only behind Atlanta and New Orleans.

It just so happens those two teams have the easiest strength of schedules going into 2024 as well; something about that NFC South.

Still, it’s a good glimpse into the challenges a team will face in the coming season. Here’s a look at how Dallas’ 17-game slate for 2024 stacks up to the rest of the league, in February.

Where does the Lions strength of schedule for 2024 rank?

Lions have the 11th-hardest strength of schedule for 2024 based on opponent’s records in 2023

For the first time in decades, the Detroit Lions will be the reigning divisional champions in 2024. Winning the NFC North for the first time means many things, but among them is the prospect of playing a first-place schedule next season.

The exact sequence of the schedule isn’t known yet; the NFL releases that in a few months. But we’ve known since the regular season ended which teams the Lions will play and whether those games are at home or on the road.

Based on the 2023 records of those teams, the Lions will have the 11th-hardest slate in 2024. The Lions opponents for 2024 finished 2023 with a collective win percentage of .509. Playing in the NFC North, where the last-place Bears and Vikings both finished 7-10, doesn’t help. Drawing first-place opponents in those two crossover games also inflates the records.

Notre Dame Football: Bye Bye, Bye by ACC for 2024

The ACC used to seemingly stack bye weeks for their squads before they took on Notre Dame but that won’t happen in 2024.

Seemingly for years it has been commonplace for opponents to get a bye week before they take on Notre Dame, specifically in the ACC.Β  This peaked in 2019 when seven of Notre Dame’s 12 opponents took on the Irish coming off a bye with three of those being ACC squads that year.

Last year, no Notre Dame opponent was coming off a bye week when they squared off against the Irish.

Now for 2024, although some details remain for the schedule, we do know that no ACC opponent (there are five) will have a bye week before they take on the Irish.Β  The full ACC football schedule was released earlier this week and can be seen below.

Notre Dame takes on five ACC opponents in 2024 (Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Stanford, and Virginia).Β  All five play ACC opponents the week before taking on Notre Dame.

Also, it’s going to probably take forever for me to get used to Stanford (and Cal and SMU for that matter) being in the ACC.

Early ranking of Colts’ opponents in 2024

Taking an early look at ranking the Colts’ opponents in 2024.

The Indianapolis Colts won’t know their schedule for another few months, but we do know who they will play during the 2024 regular season.

The way their schedule breaks down includes six games against the AFC South, four against the AFC East, four against the NFC North and the final three games against third-place teams from the NFC East (Giants), AFC West (Broncos) and AFC North (Steelers).

We detailed the home and road opponents for the 2024 season earlier in the offseason.

A lot is going to change over the course of the offseason. We had the Houston Texans as the easiest matchup in 2023 at this time last year, and we couldn’t have been more wrong about it. We’ll revisit these rankings in July after the majority of offseason moves have been made.

Here’s an early look at ranking the Colts’ opponent in 2024 from easiest to most difficult:

Notre Dame’s record in 2024 will be ________.

We’re already nearing a month since Notre Dame ended the 2023 season with a dominating 40-8 win over Oregon State in the Sun Bowl.Β  It’s a long way to go still but the first steps towards the 2024 college football season have been taken.

So far this off-season things have gone well for Notre Dame.Β  A stellar recruiting class was brought in, the transfer portal did wonders for the roster, and there is excitement regarding the hires on the coaching staff.

One reason for optimism entering 2024 for Notre Dame fans is the schedule the Irish will play.Β  It has some big names but in terms of a usual Notre Dame schedule it’s a lot more Irish-friendly than some in recent memory.

So how do things shape up for the Irish entering 2024?Β  Here is an initial look.

Lions home and away opponents are set for the 2024 regular season

The exact sequence of games and dates/times won’t come out for a few months, but here is who the Lions will play in 2024.

The end of the 2023 regular season isn’t the end of Detroit Lions football, a very welcome change. But the NFC North champion Lions do get to look ahead a bit at who Detroit will face in the 2024 regular season.

Next year’s opponents for home and the road are now set. They’re based on the final standings from this past regular season and the inter-divisional matchup rotation. The Lions finished first in the NFC North, so they get a first-place schedule in 2024.

The exact sequence of games and dates/times won’t come out for a few months, but here is who the Lions will play in 2024.

A look at the Minnesota Vikings’ 2024 opponents

The Vikings 2024 opponents include Kevin O’Connell taking on his former boss Sean McVay in Los Angeles

After failing to make the playoffs, the Minnesota Vikings are set to face numerous questions surrounding their future.

Going into the 2024 season, the Vikings might be starting a new quarterback with Kirk Cousins’ future in flux. There is a chance he will return to the team but with the Vikings holding the 11th overall pick, it could be a rookie.

The Vikings’ schedule will be a third-place schedule, meaning they will host the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons while traveling to take on the New York Giants.

Along with a third-place schedule, the Vikings will also face the entire NFC West and AFC South. That means rookie quarterbacks Anthony Richardson and C.J. Stroud will both be coming to U.S. Bank Stadium pending the Vikings hosting an international game.

The Vikings will have nine games where they are the home team and eight where they are the road team. Here is who they will play in the 2024 regular season.
