The Huskers landed another player in the transfer portal. Berke Buyuktuncel, a power forward from UCLA, officially committed to Nebraska. This is the Huskers’ sixth transfer of the offseason.

The 6-foot, 9-inch power forward played in 26 games during one season with the Bruins. Buyuktuncel averaged 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 16.2 minutes per game and shot 38.5 % from the field, 29.7% from 3-point range, and 62.8% from the free-throw line.

Prior to UCLA, Buyuktuncel represented Turkey on the international stage, including the FIBA U18 European Championship in 2022, during which he averaged 12.3 points, 7.4 boards, 2.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

In the summer of 2023, Buyuktuncel helped Turkey finish in third place at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup. In Turkey’s 84-70 win over the United States, Buyuktuncel scored 19 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals.

The Huskers lost two key forwards, Josiah Allick to graduation and Rienk Mast to knee surgery. Buyuktuncel joins Nebraska’s frontcourt, which includes North Dakota State transfer Andrew Morgan and Washington transfer Braxton Meah, each helping fill the void.

The Nebraska baseball team entered Saturday afternoon facing elimination in the NCAA Regional. The Huskers clashed against Niagara in Saturday’s showdown and, following a rough start, bounced back to survive, winning 7-5.

The Purple Eagles took off in the first inning, scoring three runs off the opening five pitches before earning another run in the second. But Nebraska responded, outscoring Niagara 7-1 through the following five innings. Mason McConnaughey earned the win on the mound, throwing for 6.0 innings and facing 28 batters.

McConnaughey coughed up five hits and five runs but delivered 10 strikeouts on the day. Jalen Worthley pitched the final three innings and earned the save. Worthley stood against 11 batters and allowed two hits while throwing two strikeouts.

Nebraska delivered eight hits and earned six RBIs and three home runs. Gabe Swansen and Case Sanderson led the way for the Huskers in the batter’s box. Swansen slammed two solo home runs on the afternoon, bringing him up to six total home runs in the postseason. Sanderson drove in four RBIs, the majority coming off a three-run home run in the third.

The Huskers earned their 40th win of the season, their first 40-win season since 2014. Nebraska moves on to the second elimination game and will await the loser between Florida and Oklahoma State on Sunday.

Nebraska baseball set to face Florida in Stillwater Regional

The Huskers return to the NCAA Tournament after a two-year absence and will travel down to Stillwater, Oklahoma.

The Huskers return to the NCAA Tournament after a two-year absence and will travel down to Stillwater, Oklahoma. Now, Nebraska will look to make its first super regional since 2005.

The Huskers are in the Stillwater Regional along with Florida, No. 11 Oklahoma State, and Niagara. Nebraska punched its ticket to the tournament following its first Big Ten Tournament Championship and is entering with a 39-20 record.

The championship win is the Huskers’ first tournament win as a member of the Big Ten Conference after winning the conference regular season in 2021.

Tournament MVP Josh Caron launched six home runs across the Big Ten Tournament, the most home runs in a single Big Ten Tournament. Caron also set the total bases record in the tournament with 28.

Nebraska even set a Big Ten Tournament record with 17 doubles in six games. The Huskers’ pitching staff recorded 56 strikeouts over six games in the tournament.

Nebraska opens the regional against Florida on Friday. This is the second meeting between the Huskers and Gators on the diamond. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m. The Gators enter the tournament with 28-27 following a first-round knockout in the SEC Tournament.

Niagara is 38-15 on the season and punched its ticket in with a MAAC Championship win. Oklahoma State, which won the Big 12 Championship, plays host in the Regional.

Minnesota top class of 2025 commit Emmanuel Karmo canceled his upcoming official visits to Wisconsin, Ohio State and Nebraska, according to his X account.

The four-star linebacker recently announced visits to those three schools despite having committed to the Gophers on April 12.

“It’s been a good week for me to reflect in the recruiting process & ask myself what is important & what I really want with my recruitment,” Karmo wrote on X. “I came to the conclusion & notified other schools that [Minnesota] is where my heart is & I would not be taking other [official visits — recruitment closed.”

Karmo is part of a Minnesota class of 2025 that ranks No. 36 in the nation with seven players committed. The Minneapolis, Minnesota, native is 247Sports’ No. 341 player in the class, No. 36 linebacker and No. 1 recruit from Minnesota.

Wisconsin’s class of 2025, meanwhile, ranks No. 16 in the nation with 11 players committed. It has commitments from three linebackers: three-star Samuel Lateju, three-star Brenden Anes and three-star Cooper Catalano.

Adding a fourth linebacker to that room such as Karmo, Minnesota’s top commit, now appears to be off the table.

Huskers set to face Ohio State in opening round of Big Ten Tournament

The Huskers have a 34-19 overall record but enter the tournament with a 7-4 record in May after going 7-10 in April.

The Nebraska baseball team is set to begin the postseason at the Big Ten Tournament in Omaha on Tuesday. The Huskers finished the regular season with a 16-8 conference record, giving them the No. 2 seed in the tournament.

Nebraska will face No. 7 Ohio State on Tuesday, May 21 at 2 p.m. The winner will advance to take on the winner of No. 3 Indiana and No. 6 Purdue on Thursday, May 23, at 2 p.m., while the losers face off in an elimination game on Wednesday, May 22, at 7 p.m.

The Huskers have a 34-19 overall record but enter the tournament with a 7-4 record in May after going 7-10 in April. Ohio State has a 28-24 overall record and a 12-12 conference record. The Buckeyes finished 7-4 in May and 9-8 in April.

Nebraska won two of their three clashes with the Buckeyes in early April, outscoring them 13-12 across the three meetings.

The Huskers as a team also stand with a batting average of .292 on the season. Josh Caron leads the team in hits (64) and RBIs (54). Caron also leads Nebraska in home runs with 10. Case Sanderson holds the Huskers’ best batting average of the season, entering the postseason with a .373.

On the mound, the team ERA is 4.37, allowing a batting average of .246. Brett Sears and Mason McConnaughey lead the Huskers. Sears stands with an 8-0 record through 92.0 innings pitched.

Sears’ ERA is 2.05, and he has 87 strikeouts and 60 hits. McConnaughey has a 7-3 record through 61.0 innings pitched. He has 70 strikeouts and 55 hits.

The first pitch between Nebraska and Ohio State is set for Tuesday at 2 p.m. The game can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

The Nebraska baseball team concluded the regular season Saturday morning with a conference game against Michigan State. The Huskers entered the day with a chance to win a share of the regular season Big Ten Title.

Nebraska finished the day with 11 hits and five RBIs, leaving nine runners on base. Michigan State delivered 14 hits for nine RBIs but also left nine runners on base. The Spartans also scored off two throwing errors by Nebraska.

The Huskers fell behind early, trailing 6-0 through four innings, another hole they failed to climb out of. Dylan Carey drove in a two-RBI double for Nebraska in the sixth, putting it on the board.

Gabe Swansen followed shortly after with a sacrificial RBI, his first RBI in over a month. Tyler Stone also hit a sacrificial RBI in the seventh, which occurred after Case Sanderson delivered an RBI single. Sanderson also led the Huskers in hits with three.

Nebraska concludes the regular season 34-19 and conference play 16-8. The Huskers hold the No. 2 seed heading into the Big Ten Tournament, which begins Tuesday.

Nebraska wins series over Indiana in 4-2 Sunday victory

The Huskers move to 32-18 on the season and 14-7 in the Big Ten Conference.

The Huskers concluded their final home game of the regular season Sunday with a showdown against Indiana. Nebraska defeated the Hoosiers in another battle that went down to the wire, taking the series 2-1 and staying alive in the Big Ten race.

The Huskers scored four runs off eight hits and earned three RBIs, while Indiana totaled two runs off six hits and three errors. Case Sanderson led Nebraska at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the third. Sanderson scored himself in the same inning off a wild pitch, giving Nebraska a 2-0 lead.

Cole Evans and Josh Caron delivered RBIs as well. Evans doubled in the sixth to bring Caron home and break the 2-2 tie. Caron then extended the lead to 4-2 in the seventh with an RBI single.

Jackson Brockett started for Nebraska and pitched 5.0 innings, earning three strikeouts and allowing just two runs across four hits. Drew Christo pitched the final four innings to earn the win, shutting out Indiana by throwing two strikeouts and surrendering just two singles.

The Huskers move to 32-18 on the season and 14-7 in the Big Ten Conference. Nebraska will conclude the regular season with a three-game series against Michigan State. Game one is set for Thursday night at 5:05 p.m. and can be viewed on B1G+.

The Huskers welcomed South Dakota State to Lincoln in a single-game showdown on Wednesday night. Nebraska held a 6-2 lead heading into the eighth but ran out of steam, surrendering eight unanswered runs to fall 10-6.

The Huskers put ten pitchers on the mound, including five in the final two innings. Nebraska coughed up 14 hits and ten runs but threw 15 strikeouts across 44 batters. The Huskers delivered 12 hits on the night but left 14 runners on base.

Joshua Overbeek led Nebraska in RBIs, bringing two off a solo home run in the second and a sacrificial grounder in the fourth. Rhett Stokes led the Huskers in total hits, finishing with three hits to total one RBI.

Dylan Carey, Riley Silva, and Ben Columbus also earned an RBI in the loss. Carey earned an RBI walk in the first inning, putting Nebraska on the board. Silva delivered an RBI triple in the fifth, and Columbus hit a sacrificial fly in the sixth.

The Huskers wrapped up the regular season with a conference showdown against Minnesota on Sunday afternoon. Though Nebraska won the weekend series, it fell in the final game against the Golden Gophers in a 7-5 defeat.

The Huskers delivered 11 hits in a heavy-hitting battle with Minnesota, which finished with 16 hits on the afternoon. However, six total double-plays limited the scoring. Nebraska stranded seven base runners while the Golden Gophers left 11 on base in their six innings.

The Huskers struck big in the fifth, scoring four runs to take a 5-2 lead. But Minnesota came back with four two-out runs in the bottom of the fifth, regaining the lead and the eventual win.

Brooke Andrews led Nebraska in RBIs with two, driving in a run off a fielder’s choice in the second and then in the fifth with a single. Emmerson Cope also delivered an RBI in the fifth, along with Sydney Gray and Bella Bacon.

Nebraska finishes the regular season 29-22 and 12-9 in the conference, finishing fourth in Big Ten play. The Huskers secured a first-round bye for the Big Ten Tournament and qualified for the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Softball scores seven unanswered in 8-3 win over Minnesota

The Nebraska softball team entered its second game against conference foe Minnesota on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers defeated the Golden Gophers swiftly, scoring seven unanswered runs en route to an 8-3 victory.

Nebraska scored seven times in the fifth and sixth innings after trailing 3-1 over Minnesota. The Huskers finished the game with 12 hits for eight RBIs, while the Golden Gophers delivered nine hits for two RBIs.

Sarah Harness earned the win for Nebraska in the pitching circle, shutting out Minnesota over the final five innings as she pitched 6.2 innings, her longest outing this season.

In the batter’s box, Sydney Gray finished 2-of-3 with five RBIs, including the go-ahead three-run home run in the fifth inning. Emmerson Cope, Brooke Andrews, and Samantha Bland each added one RBI apiece.
