The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is right around the corner. Heading into the 2024 edition of the postseason, it appears as if the Nebraska Cornhuskers will be making their eighth trip to March Madness.

The Huskers are 0-7 all-time in the Tournament and are the only power conference school that has never won an NCAA Tournament game.

Nebraska has made postseason trips before, having appeared in the National Invitation Tournament nineteen times with a combined record of 24-18. They even won the tournament in 1996.

The Huskers last NCAA Tournament appearance was in 2014 when they lost to Baylor. Their first appearance was in 1986 when they lost to Western Kentucky in the Round of 64.

March Madness expert projects Nebraska as nine seed

March madness expert Andy Katz latest projection has the Cornhuskers as a top 10 seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament

The Nebraska Cornhuskers men’s basketball team is looking to make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2013-14 season and just its second since the turn of the millennium.

At 19-8 overall and 9-7 in Big Ten play, the Huskers have positioned themselves well to go dancing. One March Madness expert is projecting the Huskers to be a 9 seed come March.

In his latest projections, Andy Katz has the Huskers as the No. 9 seed in the South Region, facing the Colorado State Rams in the first round. If the Huskers would end up with the South Region’s No. 9 seed, their first round matchup would be in Memphis, Tennessee.

While the Huskers can practically smell the tournament, they’ll first need to take care of business throughout the rest of the regular season. They have remaining matchups against Minnesota, Ohio State, Rutgers and Michigan.

A closer look at Nebraska’s comeback victory against No. 6 Wisconsin

The Nebraska men’s basketball team had one of their biggest wins of the year on Thursday night.

The Nebraska men’s basketball team had one of their biggest wins of the year on Thursday night. The Cornhuskers overcame a 19-point deficit to defeat No. 6 Wisconsin, 80-72, in overtime.

C.J. Wilcher led the way for Nebraska with a career-high 22 points. The Huskers fell behind 19 before clawing back to force overtime. Head basketball coach Fred Hoiberg told the press after the game that he was proud of the way his team responded after falling behind.

“We jumped them at halftime. That’s about as animated as I’ve been at halftime, and to their credit, they came out and responded, and that’s what it’s all about. You’ve got to find a way to bounce back when things aren’t going your way.”

The head coach also said the home crowd is the best he’s seen since becoming the head coach at Nebraska.

“Best environment I’ve seen since I’ve been here, for sure. They absolutely were a huge part in that win. I think when C.J. cut it to seven, when we finally got it under ten, the roof blew off the place. Then we just kept chipping away and finally get the lead there late in the game. And our fans were phenomenal.”

With the win, Nebraska now improves to 16-6 overall and 6-5 in the Big Ten. The Huskers will take the floor next on Sunday, February 4, against No. 14 Illinois in Champaign.
