Sooners add sharpshooting transfer guard Brycen Goodine

Sooners land their transfer portal commit with sharpshooting Brycen Goodine.

Oklahoma’s quest to restock its roster after consecutive springs in which it was gutted continues. With all the departures out of the way, Porter Moser and his staff are knee-deep in the transfer portal, trying to find pieces to build a team capable of finally breaking the NCAA tournament drought the team is facing.

Today, the Sooners added an incredible shooter to the roster in Fairfield transfer Brycen Goodine.

Goodine is an absolute flamethrower from deep. He shot a blistering 46.7% percent from three last season. Goodine poured in 13.9 points per game for the Stags last year. The sharpshooter was the eighth leading scorer in the MAAC, helping lead the Stags to a 24-13 record.

Goodine stands 6-foot-4 and has a 185-pound frame. He showcases an incredible feeling for moving without the basketball as he looks to free himself up for open jump shots on the perimeter. He shot 68% in effective field goal percentage on catch-and-shoot opportunities, good for the 97th percentile in college basketball last year.

Goodine isn’t just a spot-up shooter, though. His game footage showcases his ability to create off the bounce, get to the rim, and shoot proficiently off the dribble, where he shot 56% in effective field goal percentage, which is good for the 78th percentile. He has incredible range, with 12 of his 77 made threes last year being longer than 25 feet.

Lastly, he showed a willingness and a good feel to be an effective passer with an assist rate of 11%.

Goodine was a former four-star recruit out of high school and signed and played his freshman year with the Syracuse Orange. He’s moved around since then. Ultimately, Goodine adds some serious offense and is a floor spacer, making him a terrific fit for Oklahoma next year. He can operate the pick-and-roll but also play off-ball, so while he’s undoubtedly a shooting guard, he could give the Sooner and Moser an additional playmaking element.

With Goodine in the fold, the Sooners have added their third transfer this offseason. Goodine joins former Dayton guard Kobe Elvis and former Long Beach State guard Jadon Jones.

Defending champion UConn Huskies add sharpshooting guard in transfer portal

Former Saint Mary’s guard Aidan Mahaney committed to Danny Hurley and the UConn Huskies out of the NCAA transfer portal.

Danny Hurley and the UConn Huskies are not content to just sit on their laurels after winning back to back national championships.

The team managed to reload after losing a bunch of talent from the first title team, and coach Hurley is hard at work replenishing the roster once again after four of his five starters departed this offseason.

The latest addition for the Huskies is former Saint Mary’s guard Aidan Mahaney, a rising junior who averaged 13.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists across two years in Moraga, twice being named All-WCC and helping lead the Gaels to an outright conference title last season.

Mahaney is a strong outside shooter, although his numbers dipped from year one to year two after increasing his volume. He shot 40% from deep on 5.3 attempts as a freshman but just 35.5% as a sophomore while taking 6.9 per game.

Still, Mahaney’s experience and strong outside shooting should make him a key piece for Hurley’s team next season, alongside fellow transfer portal addition Tarris Reed out of Michigan and incoming freshman Liam McNeeley, a decommit from Indiana who should fill a valuable role right away.

If Alex Karaban opts to return and this program finds a few more transfers to round out the class, UConn will once again be in the mix for a national championship and could do what has not been done since the 1970’s: win three titles in a row.

BREAKING: Wisconsin basketball lands first transfer portal addition

BREAKING: Wisconsin basketball lands first transfer portal addition

The Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball team secured the commitment of former Central Arkansas guard Camren Hunter from the transfer portal on Sunday. Hunter was in Madison last week for a visit and he decided to become a Badger.

Hunter sat out the 2023-2024 campaign due to a medical redshirt, but he averaged 16.9 points, 3.9 assists and 5 rebounds per game while shooting 42.3% from the field in 2022-2023 with the Bears. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound athlete carries multiple years of eligibility with him to Madison.

Wisconsin had seven players from its roster this past season enter the transfer portal, including starting point guard Chucky Hepburn (Louisville). It’s unclear whether Hunter will be in a position to take over as the team’s primary ball-handler in 2024, but he will likely compete with sophomore John Blackwell and four-star freshman Daniel Freitag for the role.

Greg Gard’s staff was catching significant criticism for the lack of activity in acquiring replacements in the portal, so far this offseason. Fans must hope Sunday’s move is just the tip of the iceberg in Madison.

Wisconsin basketball hosts top-150 recruit on official visit

Wisconsin basketball hosts top-150 recruit on official visit

The Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball team hosted EJ Walker, a three-star forward from Erlanger, Kentucky, this weekend. It was Walker’s first official visit to Wisconsin after a pair of unofficial trips to Madison in June and November of 2023.

Walker is considered a top-150 recruit in the country and he narrowed his list of potential programs to 12 in March, which included Ohio State, Iowa, Purdue, Minnesota and Wisconsin within the Big Ten. Also included are South Carolina and West Virginia, amongst others.

The 6-foot-8, 230-pound athlete has been in contact with the Badgers for quite some time and he’s a potential big piece of their 2025 recruiting class, which already includes a commitment from three-star guard Zach Kinziger (De Pere, WI).

Greg Gard’s squad lost seven players to the transfer portal this offseason and they may have to rely on their two incoming freshmen in 2024, three-star guard Daniel Freitag (Minneapolis, MN) and three-star forward Jack Robison (Lakeville, MN).

Wisconsin basketball set to host Duke guard on transfer visit

Wisconsin set to host Duke transfer guard

The Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball team is set to host Duke transfer guard Jaden Schutt on a transfer visit in the near future. The former four-star recruit from Illinois entered the portal on April 15, and he visited Dayton on Friday.

Schutt didn’t appear in any games in Duke’s run to the Elite Eight in 2023-2024, redshirting the season after suffering a knee injury in the fall. He played in 14 games in 2022-2023, averaging 2.1 points while playing 6.9 minutes per contest.

With his 6-foot-5 frame and reputation as a knockdown 3-point shooter, Schutt’s game would likely fit anywhere in the country, though Wisconsin would certainly be a great landing spot.

Schutt plans to take visits to Big East programs Butler and DePaul as well as Virginia Tech, which is in the ACC with his former Blue Devils squad.

Wisconsin is looking to replace the production of three starters from last season: Chucky Hepburn (Louisville), AJ Storr (Kansas) and Tyler Wahl (graduated), but it has not secured a transfer commitment.

Wisconsin women’s basketball adds Duquesne transfer guard

Wisconsin women’s basketball adds Duquesne transfer guard

The NCAA transfer portal remains very active and the Wisconsin women’s basketball team added another athlete Friday, reeling in Duquesne transfer guard Tess Myers.

Myers will join Marisa Moseley’s squad after four years with the Dukes in Pittsburgh, most recently averaging 7.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 36.8 percent from the field in 2023-2024.

With one year of eligibility remaining, the 5-foot-9 guard will join a Wisconsin program that went 15-17 this past season, playing in the WNIT — their first postseason action in over a decade.

By choosing the Badgers in the portal, Myers became the second transfer addition for Wisconsin this offseason. Former Northern Kentucky standout Carter McCray announced that she would be transferring to Wisconsin earlier this week.

With Serah Williams returning to Madison after winning the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award, as well as upperclassmen like Halle Douglass and Natalie Leuzinger coming back for the upcoming season, Wisconsin is in a strong position to build off of their strong 2023-2024 campaign.

Former Illinois forward sticking around Big Ten for final season

Former Illinois forward sticking around Big Ten for final season

Former Illinois forward Luke Goode announced Friday that he is transferring to Indiana, remaining in the Big Ten for his final season of eligibility. Goode entered the portal on Monday, quickly finding a new home in Bloomington.

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound athlete is from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and he’ll live out a chance to play for his favorite childhood team. Wisconsin was reportedly interested in acquiring Goode from the portal, but once again came up empty.

Goode was a four-star athlete coming out of high school, joining Brad Underwood’s squad in 2021. He spent four seasons with Illinois, most recently averaging 5.7 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 39% from deep in 2023-2024.

The Badgers haven’t added a player from the portal after losing eight players as transfers following the 2023-2024 campaign.

Davon Townley enters transfer portal for second time

Davon Townley, a former four-star recruit for Penn State has entered the transfer portal.

A year after deciding to stick at Penn State instead of pursuing a transfer, defensive end [autotag]Davon Townley Jr.[/autotag] has once again entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal. And this time, he may not be coming back.

The defensive tackle was set to come back for his redshirt junior season but his place in the defensive line mix was in some question. Townley appeared in just three games during the 2023 season, and the starting spots at defensive tackle this upcoming season appear to be set with Dvon Ellies and Zane Durant the leading candidates.

Townley redshirted his true freshman season in 2021 and will have two more years of eligibility to use wherever he ends up next. He would also be eligible for a sixth year of eligibility with a COVID year still to take advantage of if he chooses.

UPDATE: Dayton sharpshooter Koby Brea no longer visiting Duke

Dayton’s Koby Brea no longer plans to visit Duke next week.

After seeing more than nine players leave the program for the portal or professional opportunities since Duke’s season ended, head coach Jon Scheyer has been deliberate in the transfer portal.

However, it seems like Dayton shooter Koby Brea won’t be a part of those plans.

After a Friday report from national insider Jon Rothstein that Brea would visit the Blue Devils from Tuesday to Thursday of next week, The News & Observer’s Stephen Wiseman confirmed Brea would not take a trip to Durham.

Brea averaged 11.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game this past season while shooting an NCAA-best 49.8 percent beyond the arc for a Flyers group that posted a 25-8 record and reached the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 before ultimately falling to Arizona.

Duke does still have two transfers so far this offseason. Maliq Brown is officially a Blue Devil, and he adds defensive prowess and energy and is an elite finisher at the rim. Purdue transfer Mason Gillis, who also officially joined the program on Friday, is a sharpshooter who can guard multiple positions along the perimeter. He was the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year and brings leadership, toughness, and range to hit big shots.
