Wisconsin women’s basketball adds Duquesne transfer guard

Wisconsin women’s basketball adds Duquesne transfer guard

The NCAA transfer portal remains very active and the Wisconsin women’s basketball team added another athlete Friday, reeling in Duquesne transfer guard Tess Myers.

Myers will join Marisa Moseley’s squad after four years with the Dukes in Pittsburgh, most recently averaging 7.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 36.8 percent from the field in 2023-2024.

With one year of eligibility remaining, the 5-foot-9 guard will join a Wisconsin program that went 15-17 this past season, playing in the WNIT — their first postseason action in over a decade.

By choosing the Badgers in the portal, Myers became the second transfer addition for Wisconsin this offseason. Former Northern Kentucky standout Carter McCray announced that she would be transferring to Wisconsin earlier this week.

With Serah Williams returning to Madison after winning the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award, as well as upperclassmen like Halle Douglass and Natalie Leuzinger coming back for the upcoming season, Wisconsin is in a strong position to build off of their strong 2023-2024 campaign.

Former Illinois forward sticking around Big Ten for final season

Former Illinois forward sticking around Big Ten for final season

Former Illinois forward Luke Goode announced Friday that he is transferring to Indiana, remaining in the Big Ten for his final season of eligibility. Goode entered the portal on Monday, quickly finding a new home in Bloomington.

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound athlete is from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and he’ll live out a chance to play for his favorite childhood team. Wisconsin was reportedly interested in acquiring Goode from the portal, but once again came up empty.

Goode was a four-star athlete coming out of high school, joining Brad Underwood’s squad in 2021. He spent four seasons with Illinois, most recently averaging 5.7 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 39% from deep in 2023-2024.

The Badgers haven’t added a player from the portal after losing eight players as transfers following the 2023-2024 campaign.

Davon Townley enters transfer portal for second time

Davon Townley, a former four-star recruit for Penn State has entered the transfer portal.

A year after deciding to stick at Penn State instead of pursuing a transfer, defensive end [autotag]Davon Townley Jr.[/autotag] has once again entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal. And this time, he may not be coming back.

The defensive tackle was set to come back for his redshirt junior season but his place in the defensive line mix was in some question. Townley appeared in just three games during the 2023 season, and the starting spots at defensive tackle this upcoming season appear to be set with Dvon Ellies and Zane Durant the leading candidates.

Townley redshirted his true freshman season in 2021 and will have two more years of eligibility to use wherever he ends up next. He would also be eligible for a sixth year of eligibility with a COVID year still to take advantage of if he chooses.

UPDATE: Dayton sharpshooter Koby Brea no longer visiting Duke

Dayton’s Koby Brea no longer plans to visit Duke next week.

After seeing more than nine players leave the program for the portal or professional opportunities since Duke’s season ended, head coach Jon Scheyer has been deliberate in the transfer portal.

However, it seems like Dayton shooter Koby Brea won’t be a part of those plans.

After a Friday report from national insider Jon Rothstein that Brea would visit the Blue Devils from Tuesday to Thursday of next week, The News & Observer’s Stephen Wiseman confirmed Brea would not take a trip to Durham.

Brea averaged 11.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game this past season while shooting an NCAA-best 49.8 percent beyond the arc for a Flyers group that posted a 25-8 record and reached the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 before ultimately falling to Arizona.

Duke does still have two transfers so far this offseason. Maliq Brown is officially a Blue Devil, and he adds defensive prowess and energy and is an elite finisher at the rim. Purdue transfer Mason Gillis, who also officially joined the program on Friday, is a sharpshooter who can guard multiple positions along the perimeter. He was the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year and brings leadership, toughness, and range to hit big shots.

Former four-star CB Jasiah Wagoner set to enter the portal

Oklahoma Sooners cornerback Jasiah Wagoner entering the transfer portal, according to a report on Thursday.

Spring practice is over for the Oklahoma Sooners and they’re one of the teams in college football feeling the roster crunch. Programs and players are making tough decisions about their future.

In the spring portal window, the Oklahoma Sooners lost projected rotational cheetah Justin Harrington. Now, another key defensive back piece in the 2023 recruiting class is heading to the portal.

According to Collin Kennedy of Sooners Illustrated and 247Sports, former four-star prospect Jasiah Wagoner is entering the transfer portal.

Wagoner played eight games and 76 snaps as a true freshman, according to Pro Football Focus. Wagoner had a terrific summer leading up to the season and was routinely discussed as someone who could push for snaps immediately as the Sooners searched for consistency at cornerback.

He missed the first half of the season due to injury before becoming a consistent part of the rotation in the back half of the year. He totaled three tackles and two pass breakups in 2023.

Oklahoma earned Wagoner’s commitment over Arizona State, Notre Dame, Washington, and Texas.

Wagoner’s departure is probably not the last for Oklahoma as players on the fringe or lower on the depth chart than they’d like to be will seek to enter the transfer portal ahead of the May 1 deadline.

Recent rule changes have clarified that all transfers, graduate or not, must be in the portal by May 1st to seek a new school. Previously, grad transfers were allowed to enter the portal after the deadline, but with the new rules, all players are treated the same when entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Wagoner will have three more years of eligibility remaining.

Brother of Wisconsin cornerback enters transfer portal

Wisconsin cornerback’s brother enters transfer portal

The NCAA spring transfer portal window is open until April 30 and UCF cornerback Jason Duclona, brother of current Wisconsin Badgers defensive back Jonas Duclona, entered on Wednesday.

Though they were in the same grade, Jason is less than a year younger than his older brother Jonas (350 days apart) and the brothers grew up in south Florida, going to separate high schools. Jason attended Estero High School, while Jonas wanted to stick with his football friends, enrolling in Naples High School.

Both brothers were three-star class of 2023 athletes. Jonas enrolled at UW-Madison while Jason chose to attend UCF. Jason appeared in three games during his freshman season with the Knights, failing to record any stats.

With the Badgers, Jonas played in 12 contests in 2023, totaling three tackles while playing mostly on special teams. Considering the family connection, Jason Duclona could certainly find himself visiting Luke Fickell’s squad in Madison in the near future.

Texas A&M sophomore offensive lineman Colton Thomasson enters transfer portal

“Thank you 12th Man. There is nothing quite like running through the tunnel onto Kyle Field and an honor I’ll never forget,” Thomasson said.

After only one year in College Station, a Texas A&M underclassman has decided to enter the transfer portal.

Projected starting Big Ten quarterback enters transfer portal

Projected starting Big Ten quarterback enters transfer portal

The NCAA spring transfer portal window remains open until April 30 and in a surprising move, Northwestern’s projected starting quarterback Brendan Sullivan announced his intentions to transfer Tuesday.

Sullivan appeared in 12 games for the Wildcats over the last two seasons. He threw for 714 yards and six touchdowns in 2023 while also adding 160 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. Those stats came while splitting time with quarterback Ben Bryant in 2023.

Sullivan appeared to be Northwestern’s clear 2024 starter with Bryant no longer in town. That will now not be the case.

Senior Ryan Hilinski presents as the most likely next man up for the Wildcats, while junior Jack Lausch should be the primary competition

The transfer portal continues to offer athletes a chance to get a fresh start and in Sullivan’s case, it doesn’t necessarily matter if you were in line to be the starter.

Wisconsin is set to visit Northwestern on October 19. We will now monitor who the Wildcats’ starting quarterback will be for that contest.
