Ohio State misses out on 2025 Oklahoma tight end who commits to Midwest power

The Buckeyes still haven’t found a 2025 tight end #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] was in the running to add 2025 Oklahoma tight end [autotag]Nate Roberts[/autotag] after being named one of his top schools and hosting him on a visit earlier this month.

The old recruiting adage of getting the last shot to impress a prospect turned out to be true this time around as Roberts’ last visit to was South Bend. The 6-foot, 4-inch and 230 pound tight end selected Notre Dame from his final contenders.

It would have been nice to see Roberts end up in Columbus but at the current moment there are multiple other players at his position that the Buckeyes are recruiting heavily.

Georgia’s [autotag]Emaree Winston[/autotag] is high on Ohio State and there is potential for [autotag]Luka Gilbert[/autotag] to stay home and play for the Buckeyes as well. The search for a 2025 tight end commit continues.

Four-star 2025 tight end recruit Nate Roberts picks Notre Dame

Nice get.

Notre Dame has developed a reputation in recent years as the landing spot for many quality tight ends. Our own Nick Shepkowski has taken to giving Notre Dame the moniker of “Tight End U.” Well, he’ll able to keep calling it that for the foreseeable future.

Many experts are high on [autotag]Nate Roberts[/autotag], and the 2025 four-star recruit from Washington, Oklahoma, picked the Irish during a live announcement on 247Sports’ YouTube channel:

Roberts, Oklahoma’s No. 2 recruit and the nation’s No. 3 tight end in the 2025 class, appropriately received his offer from the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and was getting offers as recently as June 6. [autotag]Gerad Parker[/autotag] and [autotag]Marty Biagi[/autotag] led the charge in recruiting him, and this definitely is a big win for them. He’s comparable in size to [autotag]Michael Mayer[/autotag] and could very well catch up in at least that department by the time his collegiate career begins. Maybe the Irish should start the process of trademarking “Tight End U”?

Ohio State moves on in 2025 Oklahoma tight end’s recruitment

The Buckeyes are still in the mix #GoBucks

The 2025 recruiting class is still far away from signing but [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] always has an eye on the next class, and even sometimes the few classes after that.

With just one current commit in next years class, the Buckeyes are looking to add more with Oklahoma tight end [autotag]Nate Roberts[/autotag] being one of those targets. The 6-foot, 4-inch and 225 pound prospect narrowed his list to 12 schools, with Ohio State making the cut.

Roberts is viewed as one of the best players in the country as his national ranking of 121st is very impressive while being the 5th ranked tight end according to the 247Sports composite.

There is still a long ways to go in Roberts recruitment, but advancing to the next stage is a solid step for the Buckeyes.

Four-star 2025 Oklahoma tight end is offered by Ohio State

The Buckeyes has offered the talented tight end #GoBucks

For a while, the [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] tight ends were pretty much a glorified offensive lineman, but head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] is trying to change that narrative.

Day has recently seen Cade Stover make some impressive strides as a pass catcher and develop some depth behind him. [autotag]Joe Royer[/autotag] and [autotag]Gee Scott Jr.[/autotag] are next in line and early enrolling freshman Jelani Thurman has already made a positive impression.

The trend needs to continue and that starts with recruiting. In the 2024 cycle, the Buckeyes have a commitment from Tennessee’s Max LeBlanc, a very solid player.

There is no current commit in the 2025 cycle but Oklahoma’s [autotag]Nate Roberts[/autotag] is a target and was offered a scholarship on Tuesday morning.

Roberts is one of the top tight ends in the country, rated as the the No. 5 tight end and 126th overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He also is a very good baseball player, showing that he’s not just a one-sport athlete. Roberts didn’t start playing the position until this past season, so although he is raw, the talent is there.

Oklahoma extends offer to in-state 2025 tight end Nate Roberts

Oklahoma extends an offer to in-state tight end Nate Roberts of the 2025 class.

Oklahoma slowly but surely continues to build its recruiting board for its 2025 class. There’s no better place to do that than within your own backyard. The Sooners’ latest offer went out to rising in-state star Nate Roberts, a tight end from Washington, Oklahoma.

Roberts is a massive athlete for his age, already standing at 6-foot-3 and over 200 pounds. He has lined up all over the field already for his high school team, playing defensive end and quarterback, in addition to tight end. It runs in his family as well, considering his older brother plays tight end at the University of North Texas.

Outside of football, Roberts plays baseball and was part of a 3A state championship-winning team this past spring. Roberts also plays power forward for Washington as well.

So far, he owns offers from Oklahoma, Kentucky, Baylor, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Texas, and Missouri. Early in the 2025 recruiting process, Roberts hasn’t been rated yet by the recruiting services.

With no commitments from tight ends in 2024 or 2025, Oklahoma is already looking to build and cultivate relationships with tight ends for the future. Sooners tight end coach Joe Jon Finley is in the stages of building his recruiting board for the next few years after landing the commitment of Kade McIntyre for 2023.

Roberts joins Davon Mitchell as the only other tight end in the 2025 class with an offer. Mitchell is listed as a five-star with 247Sports.
