Both teams will be taking the pitch for the first time since the international break. It was an interesting few weeks prior to that break for Atlanta United FC. It’s riding a four-game unbeaten streak but won just one of those.

Prior to kicking off that hot streak, United tied Philadelphia 1-1 in the second leg of the CONCACAF quarterfinals, but they lost 4-1 on aggregates after a brutal first matchup.

The two teams know each other well. That said, Philadelphia has had the better season so far and sits third in the Eastern Conference. The Union have won three straight games and four of their last five.

Prediction

Philadelphia Union 1, Atlanta United FC 1

Money line (ML)

“LEAN” to UNION (+210) because they’ve been one of the best teams in the East this season, and they handled business against Atlanta twice in CONCACAF play.

The best play is PHILADELPHIA OR TIE (-175), although there isn’t great value anywhere on the money line.

That said, the Union are tied for the most clean sheets and are second in save percentage. Their backline gets the job done.

Twenty-eight-year-old F Kacper Przybylko has played well, and with MF Alejandro Bedoya in the mix as well, the talent is there for the Union.

Taking Philadelphia outright is tough, as Atlanta has a 1-1 tie against the Seattle Sounders, the best team in the West. Having just 1 loss, United has been a tough team to beat.

However, Atlanta hasn’t been the same team since superstar F Josef Martínez tore his ACL to kick off the 2020 season. For that, I’d “LEAN” to the Union but may ultimately Pass on the money line as there’s a much better bet on the Over/Under.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the UNDER 2.5 (-115). While both of these teams can score, neither are electric in the final third. The Union have given up the second-fewest goals in MLS.

Scoring just 9 goals in eight games yet winning four of those outings, Philadelphia has gotten it done in low-scoring games. Atlanta has 9 goals in seven games and isn’t the scoring machine it used to be.

It will be an interesting game as the Union are fourth in interceptions but Atlanta is first in passing percentage. Despite the precision in their passing, the Under is still the bet as neither club has scored consistently this season.

Coming off a three-week break will not be easy, but the Sounders have been the best team in MLS so there really shouldn’t be any issues getting back into form. Having yet to lose, they’ll take to the road where they have 2 wins and a draw this season.

As for the Galaxy, they were absolutely destroyed when the two teams met earlier this season. Sounders F Raúl Ruidíaz scored twice as Seattle won 3-0.

The Galaxy will be looking to avenge one of their two losses. An early-game red card contributed to their other loss to the Portland Timbers, so this could very well be a matchup of the two best teams in MLS.

Prediction

Seattle 2, LA Galaxy 1

Money line (ML)

BET on SOUNDERS (+190) because they’re the best defensive team in MLS and LA has been sloppy against more technically sound opponents.

They lost to Portland, had a close game with New York, and were annihilated in a club-friendly against the Revolution before the season began. LA took care of business in games it should’ve won.

That said, both teams have playmakers as 30-year-old Ruidiaz is expected to take the pitch. He is second in MLS with 6 goals. Galaxy F Chicharito leads the league with 7 markers.

Seattle is second in goals inside the 18-yard box, No. 1 in save rate and No. 1 in duel rate. They’ve just been hands-down better than every other team in almost every facet of the game.

I expect the Sounders to take care of business like they did last time they took the field with LA.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS on the Over 2.5 (-155) because that price just doesn’t equate to the value.

LA has averaged a goal per game over its last five matches. Despite the scoring prowess on both sides of the ball, Seattle’s defense is too consistent and too strong to take the Over at that value.

Given that Seattle put 3 on LA in their last meeting, I wouldn’t take the Under either, although it’d be a plus-money bet. If there is any value, it’d be there as Seattle hasn’t played to a total of 3 goals in any of its last four games.

The Sounders defense is too good to bet against. Every team in the West has given up at least 8 goals except for Seattle who has allowed 3 through eight games.

Los Angeles FC 3, Houston Dynamo 1

Money line (ML)

LAFC (-250) is finally getting healthy after a rough go of it to start the season. That’s in its favor here, as well as the fact Houston has just been brutal on the road. However, you can’t play LAFC straight up, as it will cost you two and a half times your potential return.

Instead, take LAFC/LAFC (+105) to win the first half and the match for a much better value on the alternate line.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 3.5 (+105) is worth a roll of the dice here. LAFC scored at least 2 goals in each of its past four matchups against Houston. Look for plenty of scoring in this one.

I love the DRAW (+250) play in this matchup at Providence Park.

The Timbers have been a little off this season, but they have been sharp when defending their turf. Sporting KC is coming off a bummer of a draw against Austin last time out, but it’d do well to grab a tie here.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 2.5 (-175) is a little on the expensive side, but it’s a good bet when the Timbers are involved.

They have had 3 or more goals in five of their last six MLS matches and there have been 3 or more goals scored in four of the last five head-to-head matches between these sides.

Playing OVER 3.5 (+135) on the alternate line is a little risky, but a good value here.

As for NYCFC, it’ll look to MF Jesús Medina, who is tied for the third-most goals in MLS. New England holds its opponents under a goal per game.

Over its last 4 games, NYCFC has scored 5 and given up 5, so getting back into a rhythm following the international break with a win over the best in the conference would be huge.

New England 2, NYCFC 1

Money line (ML)

BET on the REVOLUTION (+230) because it’s not a fluke that they’re the best team in the conference. Philadelphia may give them some run at top of the East, but New England has looked phenomenal on both sides of the ball.

Offensively, they’re led by F Adam Buksa, who is tied for sixth in goals (4). Buksa is also fifth in shots (29). Defensively, New England is ninth in duel percentage, sixth in save percentage and tied for fifth in clean sheets.

It won’t be an easy win though as NYCFC has the 24-year-old Medina and 22-year-old F Valentín Castellanos, who is also tied for sixth in goals.

Despite the scoring prowess for NYCFC, getting past New England and consistently stopping its barrage of counterattacks will not be easy. For their abilities on both sides of the field, the Revolution should come out on top.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS on the Over 2.5 (-165). Despite the scoring prowess, New England has a solid backline. Betting Over 2 goals in soccer at that value is just not worth it.

New York has played seven games, and scored in all of them. However, three games still wouldn’t have topped the Over as they have two 1-1 draws and a 2-0 win. As for New England, it’s the opposite as four of its last five games fell shy of 3 goals.

The offense is there for both teams, but assuming that 3 goals will be hit is never a guarantee. For your money, betting on New England to win is the smarter play.

As for Colorado, the Rapids’ last few outings have been highly impressive, with 2.5 goals per game over their last four outings. They scored 3 goals in three of their last four games. Against a week FCC defense, that scoring prowess could make this game an absolute thriller, or a one-sided barrage.

Colorado 3, FC Cincinnati 1

Money line (ML)

BET against the home side as the RAPIDS (+120) have great value. FCC has yet to win or even draw at home.

For FCC fans, it’s a tough product to watch as their team has played at least one fewer game than every other MLS team and they are still last in goals allowed.

Colorado has two losses against bottom-half teams in the West, so it has fumbled the match a couple of times. I wouldn’t think this is one of them as the more skilled team should come out on top.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the OVER 2.5 (-150) despite the value not quite being there. The value for the Over isn’t ideal, but the Rapids were on fire before the break and are taking on the worst defense in MLS.

They should be able to get 3 goals by themselves. On top of that, FC Cincinnati has really only been involved in high-scoring matches. Five of their last six matches had a total of 3 or more goals.

Having been at their last match, it certainly felt like far more opportunities were created than the scoreline showed. Now, it’s typically tough to get good value when betting on 3 goals, but it would be shocking if at least 3 didn’t find the back of the net Saturday.

Against weaker competition they’ve managed three straight draws, picking up ties against the bottom two teams in the Western Conference their last two times out. This is a game they need to come out and get three points in.

PASS on the money because neither of these teams has shown enough to be confident in.

Real Salt Lake is at home, and they’re the favorite. But, they’ve tied two straight games against the worst teams in the West and are averaging more points per game on the road than at home.

They will have the more dangerous attacker on the field with F Rubio Rubín, whose four goals are currently tied for the fifth-most in the league. However, Whitecaps F Cristian Dájome is just one behind him, so the one-man offense may be in full effect for each squad as the duo accounts for 7 of 15 of the team’s combined goals this season.

With more ties than wins at home for RSL, I think that while we see a little action from both sides neither will pull away. At the current values, this is a PASS on the money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the UNDER 2.5 (-120) because neither of the teams is the most lethal offensively, and this could be a slow, grind-it-out type game. With both teams potentially being rusty after over two weeks of the international break this could easily end 0-0 or 1-0.

Vancouver has been shut out in 3 of their last 5 games. Knowing that, the Under 2.5 has a solid value. Vancouver ranks 11th while RSL ranks 12th in save percentage as well, so the goalies have been above average so far this season.

RSL does have 3 multi-goal games on the year, so their offensive could come alive. However, coming off a break and taking on a team that ranks in the top-five in duel percentage, I’d stack the odds against them putting two in the net.

Both Nashville and New York are knocking on the door of contending in the East, making this an important game with both looking to get back into form.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 2.5 (+105) because the Red Bulls have been aggressive and typically find a way to score.

They have 10 goals in seven games, having given up 10 as well. Four of New York’s seven games had at least 3 goals scored. As for Nashville, it has gone over 2.5 goals three times, all three of which were 2-2 draws.

Neither team ranks in the top 10 in passing percentage and the Red Bulls are dead last. That could provide some easy breakaways and help Clark find his footing in the midfield.

Austin FC is coming off an impressive draw with the best team in the Western Conference in the Seattle Sounders.

Sporting Kansas City 1, Austin FC 0

Money line (ML)

PASS Sporting KC (-140) because it’s a bit rich when their leading scorer is still out on international duty.

Forward Alan Pulido will conclude his international duty with a game later on Saturday as Mexico will take on Honduras.

For this event, Pulido’s absence will leave a huge question mark for Sporting KC’s offense. Sporting KC has 15 goals on the season, and Pulido has a third of them.

His absence will be brutal, and it could mean the underdogs are a better play, especially as Austin FC (+310) is looking to get another solid result after that draw with Seattle.

However, at a full capacity Children’s Mercy Park, I wouldn’t bet against the home side either. Forward Daniel Salloi is expected to be active for Sporting KC which should help their attack.

Austin FC allows just over a goal per game, so it wouldn’t be shocking for something to find the back of the net.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the Under 2.5 (+105) because of Pulido being out. On top of that, the Under being plus-money presents good value.

With Pulido sidelined, Sporting KC’s attack will take a hit. For Austin FC, it has only scored 5 goals in 7 games, which both give good reasons to take the Under. Sporting KC scores nearly 2 goals per game.

In a May 9 meeting, Sporting KC beat Austin FC 2-1, but Austin was playing with only 10 men for the last third of the game and actually held up quite well. The Under is the only good value.
