LAFC have won 2 straight games in the El Trafico derby, beating the Galaxy 3-2 at Banc of California Stadium on July 8 and Oct. 20. LAFC has been the far better side, but the hesitation comes in how well the Galaxy have played in this series at home.

Nonetheless, this isn’t the same Galaxy side, having scored just 3 goals in 6 games and having allowed 9. They are 0-1-1 at home, losing to Seattle. LAFC is arguably the best team in the league and is coming off a dynamic 3-0 win over Austin.

LAFC has D Aaron Long, M Jose Cifuentes and F Carlos Vela — all among the best in the league at their position. They are a dynamic group, and at plus-money value, LAFC is the better option.

Take LAFC (+120).

LAFC is the most talented team in the MLS. They have veteran talent with Vela and Bale and then leadership in the back with Chiellini.

The home side will also have more versatility in its attack with 5 players having scored 6 or more goals this season. On top of that advantage, LAFC was 13-2-2 at home this season.

The Galaxy lost 7 of 17 road games as well as dropping 5 of their last 10 on the road. The Galaxy don’t have the firepower to hang with LAFC and should struggle as they’ll be less rested as well.

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN UNDER 3.5 (-155).

LAFC has allowed 38 goals on the season, the 2nd-fewest in the West. The Galaxy’s attack also wasn’t clicking well against Nashville as neither team had more than 1 expected goal and LA won just 1-0.

LAFC had the fewest shots against in the regular season as well, so their defense had held strong for most of the season. With playoff games already difficult to net goals in, I expect a low-scoring battle on Thursday evening.

Nashville SC 2, LA Galaxy 1

LEAN NASHVILLE SC (+280).

Nashville is the better team here. It had the better goal differential for a reason. With Mukhtar set to start up top, the Nashville attack should be more potent as well.

The Nashville defense is also captained by USMNT defender and All-Star D Walker Zimmerman. He’s a stud and should be able to help Nashville win Saturday. Nashville has also been surging, coming off a 1-0 win at LAFC.

The Galaxy, on the other hand, have remained relatively unbeaten, but haven’t had a clean sheet in 13 games. In playoff soccer, goals aren’t easy to come by, and they’ve allowed them as of late.

With the best player on the field and the best defender, I’ll back NASHVILLE SC (+280).

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 2.5 (-135).

Both teams have stars up top that should be primed to be involved in most of the action.

Along with his 23 goals, Mukhtar had 7 assists on the season. He should create a lethal attack, and as noted, the Galaxy defense hasn’t been great at shutting teams out.

Expect Nashville to get on the board at least once. Similarly, LA has only been shut out once in its last 13 battles.

With Hernandez healthy, it should be able to get a goal in this one. The Galaxy have been a fast-paced side, scoring 1.71 per game while allowing 1.5 per game. Those figures held justify backing a high-scoring battle.

The Galaxy should come out on top, and the Rapids’ biggest disappointment of the season is their inability to get points on the road. LA has been steamed up to -170, and we’re just going to leave that alone.

Colorado is just 1-10-4 on the road, so there’s not much reason to think they’ll be able to escape with a win. The Galaxy are 2-0-2 over their last 4 home matches as well.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 3.5 (+105).

There are 3 teams in the West that have allowed between 50 and 60 goals. Colorado, Vancouver and Sporting KC are the three. In LA’s 4 games against the other two, this total would be 3-1 O/U.

In the first match between these two teams, Colorado won 2-0, but Hernandez didn’t play. He’s a difference-making forward. Also, there were 29 shots in those 2 games yet only 6 were on target. That likely won’t be repeated in terms of efficiency of shots.

The Rapids are tied for 3rd-most goals allowed in the West as well. Colorado has allowed 20 goals in their last 7 road games. The Galaxy have gone over this total in their last 3 home matches.

The Galaxy have been cold as of late, but the Whitecaps have been equally as bad on the road. If there is a value here, I wouldn’t hate betting TIE OR WHITECAPS FC +122.

At the same time, I see this being a high-scoring match and would rather go to the total as the odds are just more favorable.

Vancouver hasn’t lost in 4 straight road matches but did lose its first 6 straight on the road. While that recent stretch is positive, the Whitecaps have had as many or fewer expected goals in all 4.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 3.5 (+133).

The Galaxy’s home games have been high-scoring affairs recently. They have gone over this total in 4 of their last 6 and in 3 of their last 4.

They’ve had at least 2 expected goals in all 4 while their opponent has had at least 1 in each of the 4. So their offense has been cooking while their defense has been lacking.

The Whitecaps’ awful defense helps the cause as well, allowing 1.63 goals per game. Vancouver has gone over this total in 2 of its last 5 road matches as well.

This is my favorite bet of the game as the Galaxy should be able to abuse a weak Whitecaps backline.

I can’t get behind any of the value here, especially for the Red Bulls ML. While New York has proven to be the better side, the Rapids have much of the same squad that finished atop the Western Conference last season.

While they have really struggled on the road, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them figure things out, but -150 just isn’t juicy enough to back, especially considering New York has won just 3 of 10 home matches.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (+110).

The West is the better conference by a sizable margin, and in every home match New York has had against a team in the West, it has gone under 2.5. In 2 of the 3, it’s gone under 1.5.

The Red Bulls also have had over 1.5 expected goals in 1 of their last 4 home matches while their opponent has gone under that mark in those 4 as well. New York has allowed just 1.14 goals per game this season.

Colorado drew NYCFC 1-1 in its lone road game against an East side. There were just 1.6 expected goals by both teams. This game should replicate that one and less like the Rapids’ 2-1 loss to Seattle.

Both teams also rank in the top 10 in opponents’ shots. The defenses are there while the offenses haven’t been quite as consistent.

The books clearly like Colorado at home, and there’s good reason for that. Couple that with the Galaxy’s recent struggles, and the odds on the money line make perfect sense.

However, in this situation, these teams should be evenly matched.

The Galaxy play to the level of their competition on the road, having drawn 2 of their last 5 and having ended the match within 0.6 expected goals of its opponents.

For Colorado, while it has seen success at home, it is just 1-2-1 against West teams in playoff position. On top of that, the Rapids have lost 2 of their last 3 at home and haven’t won at DSG since May 22.

Considering the Galaxy’s inconsistencies, I wouldn’t necessarily bet on them to come out on top which is why the DRAW +290 is the way I’d play the money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER ALTERNATE TOTAL 2.5 (+140).

The Galaxy have played at a different pace on the road and haven’t found the same offensive success. LA has gone under 2.5 combined goals in 5 of its 8 road matches this season.

Four of those 5 have actually gone under 1.5 goals as well. With Colorado having gone Under this total in 7 of 10 home matches this season, there’s value in betting the Under here.

Both teams also rank in the top 10 in shots against, so they typically do limit their opponents’ chances. Put it all together, and UNDER 2.5 (+140) is my favorite bet of the match.

Austin FC has been terrific at home this season. Not only have they not lost, but they have outscored their opponents 15-1.

The only team that has entered Q2 and not left with zero points was the Seattle Sounders, ironically the only team to also put up a multi-goal game on the Galaxy.

LA’s inability to score is also concerning. They have scored just 1 goal in their last 3 games. Against a defense that ranks tied for the 3rd-fewest goals in the conference, LA may struggle.

Considering how well Austin has been at home and the current form of LA, I’ll back Austin to win here, especially at this value.

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN UNDER 2.5 (+110).

Austin’s offense has generated goals frequently this season, but it has struggled against top-tier defenses.

Austin put 10 goals on FC Cincinnati and Inter Miami combined, but against Minnesota, a top-5 defense in the West, they scored just 1. They’ve scored 3 goals in 2 games against teams currently in playoff position and both resulted in a win.

LA has 1 goal in its last 3 games. It has had just 3 multi-goal games and has been held without a goal 3 times as well. Two of those 3 scoreless matches came on the road.

It wouldn’t be shocking to see a team that relies so heavily on Chicharito struggle. With that in mind, I like the Under 2.5 (+110) here.

The last two times these teams met, the end result has been a draw. They played to 1-1 ties Aug. 28 and Oct. 3 last season.

While LAFC is the better side, the Galaxy will be at home, where they were 8-4-5 last season despite having a far weaker roster than their current one. Both teams have also been extremely strong defensively.

The Galaxy have given up 5 goals in 5 games, while LAFC has given up 4 in 5. Considering both know how to defend elite attacking forwards, they should be able to neutralize the top scorers.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the UNDER 2.5 (+140).

Again, both teams have star power up top, but it’s going to be the defenses that should reign.

While El Trafico feels like it’s often a high-scoring affair, it really hasn’t been with the Under 2.5 goals having gone 3-3 in the last 6 matches. Under 3.5 is 5-1, which can be taken at -170.

Through 5 games, LAFC has allowed 15 shots, while the Galaxy have allowed just 14. It’s not going to be easy to score, and I expect few goals in this battle.

The Earthquakes haven’t lost since the Galaxy beat them in late June. Since then they’ve recorded 7 draws and 2 victories over the Seattle Sounders and LAFC.

The Earthquakes rank ninth in the Western Conference while the Galaxy are in third.

BET on the LA GALAXY (-125) as they’ve been unstoppable at home. While they are coming off a rough home loss to the Colorado Rapids the Earthquakes are not on the Rapids’ level.

The Galaxy have 11 wins in 20 matches overall and have typically taken care of business at home where they have recorded seven victories in 11 games.

I’d expect them to take of business at home Friday as well.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the UNDER 2.5 (+110) as the best value on the table.

The Galaxy have scored 31 goals and given up 30 through their 20 games. They looked shaky against Colorado, but as mentioned before the Earthquakes are not on that level.

Both teams have struggled to score lately. The Galaxy Under has hit in three of their last four matches and the Earthquakes Under has come through in seven of their last eight games.

Given those trends, I’d expect the Under to hit here.
