Report: Missouri starting QB ruled out for Georgia game

The Missouri Tigers will be without starting quarterback Connor Bazelak on Nov. 6 against Georgia.

The Missouri Tigers will be without starting quarterback Connor Bazelak on Nov. 6 against Georgia, Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports reports.

Bazelak has played in all eight of Missouri’s games to start the season. He’s thrown 13 touchdown passes and eight interceptions. The sophomore quarterback has compiled 2,138 passing yards this season.

Bazelak suffered an injury against Vanderbilt that is forcing him out for Missouri’s trip to Athens, Georgia.

The (4-4) Missouri Tigers already faced a tall task against (8-0) Georgia’s elite defense. Now they will have to play with an inexperienced quarterback.

Yahoo’s Pete Thamel broke the news of Bazelak’s status. Missouri will turn to Brady Cook and Tyler Macon in his absence.

Cook and Macon have combined to throw for only 98 passing yards this season on just nine attempts. Both players are former three-star recruits.

UGA vs Missouri football series history

The Georgia Bulldogs have the all-time series edge of 9-1 over the Missouri Tigers.

The Georgia Bulldogs have the all-time series edge over SEC East foe Missouri. Georgia and Missouri have been building up their rivalry over the years after the Tigers joined the SEC in 2012.

Can Missouri make the 2021 game against Georgia interesting? UGA usually plays well against the Tigers, especially under Kirby Smart.

5-star Luther Burden’s commitment to Missouri is icing on a strong class

Luther Burden committed to Missouri football, adding a five-star playmaker to the Tigers’ strong class of recruits.

On top of everything else that makes the SEC so difficult to compete in, Missouri football has struggled to recruit as well as its peers in recent years.

Last year, Mizzou picked up a pair of four-star recruits but was ranked the No. 11 class in the conference. That was actually an improvement, breaking a five-year streak in which the Tigers finished 13th in the conference, a stretch in which they got four total four-star players.

With the commitment of five-star wide receiver Luther Burden, ranked on the 247Sports Composite as the No. 5 player in the class, second-best receiver and top player in Missouri, Mizzou is staring down its competition.

The Tigers have six four-star commits, as many as they had in the previous six years combined, and are getting contributors on both sides of the ball. With a quarterback, running back, two wide receivers and offensive lineman all ranked as four-star players or better, this may be the offensive foundation for the next three years. On the other side of the ball, a four-star safety and four-star defensive lineman join the group.

There is still much recruiting to be done, but Missouri’s class is ranked by 247Sports as the fifth-best class in the SEC and 14th in the nation, massive step-ups from years past.

Burden, who committed on Tuesday, makes plays on offense and special teams. In 13 games over this season and last, he has 81 receptions for 1,489 yards and 17 touchdowns, and has also returned kickoffs and punts this season. Just two days before his commitment, Burden caught two touchdown passes and returned a punt for another score.

He turns this class from a good group into a great one.

Georgia football releases hype trailer for Missouri game

The Georgia Bulldogs have released a hype video for the game against the Missouri Tigers. UGA will look to wrap up second in the SEC East.

The Georgia Bulldogs have released a hype trailer for the game against the No. 25 ranked Missouri Tigers. Missouri has only beaten Georgia once in the series history.

Kirby Smart and Georgia will face the Tigers in a battle for second place in the SEC East. Georgia is looking to make a New Year’s Six bowl game.

Georgia quarterback JT Daniels will look to improve to 3-0 in his first three starts. Can he find a strong connection with wide receiver George Pickens? Pickens shredded the Tigers last season.

Georgia dominated South Carolina on the ground last time they played. Missouri is one of the hotter teams in the SEC and will look to shut down Georgia’s rushing attack. If Missouri can pull off the upset, then it will be a monumental win for first year Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz.

Here’s the trailer the Georgia football program dropped ahead of game No. 9 against the Missouri Tigers:

SEC Network sets commentators for Georgia at Missouri

The announcers have been set for the Georgia Bulldogs at Missouri Tigers game. UGA will look to wrap up second place in the SEC East.

The announcers have been set for the Georgia Bulldogs at Missouri Tigers game. The game will be televised at on the SEC Network and is set to kickoff at noon.

Georgia shut out Missouri 27-0 in Athens last season behind an impressive effort from wide receiver George Pickens. This match-up feels different than it did earlier in the season.

Kirby Smart and the University of Georgia is coming into the game hot with quarterback JT Daniels running the offense. Missouri will be without numerous players, but has reeled off a few consecutive wins when they’ve been able to play.

The Tigers enter the game 5-3 overall and they’ve won their last three games. They won a shootout over Arkansas last week and have defeated South Carolina and Vanderbilt since their hard-fought loss to Florida.

Missouri has a new coach in Eli Drinkwitz, who comes to Columbia, Missouri, following a brief stint with Appalachian State. Drinkwitz has helped the Tigers clinch at least a third place finish in the SEC East.

The SEC Network’s Dave Neal, D.J. Shockley, and Lauren Sisler will be on the call for the SEC East game.

The Georgia Bulldogs will look to beat Missouri to further their hopes of playing in a New Year’s Six bowl game for the fourth consecutive season.

UGA Twitter reacts: Georgia at Missouri game postponed

The Georgia Bulldogs at Missouri Tigers game has been postponed following a COVID-19 outbreak at Missouri.

The Georgia Bulldogs at Missouri Tigers game has been postponed until later in the season following a COVID-19 outbreak within the Missouri football program. Missouri’s contract tracing deemed that the Tigers wouldn’t have enough players to play the Bulldogs.

Georgia football is coming off a loss to Florida and could’ve used a bounce-back week. Now, Georgia will have to hope they can play Mississippi State next week.

Missouri and UGA could potentially reschedule and play on Dec. 19.

UGA’s season is more development oriented at this point, so it is good that Georgia can still practice. Kudos to the UGA players and staff for being responsible and not having a major COVID-19 outbreak this season.

Here’s how Georgia Twitter reacted to the news of the postponed game:

There’s a lot of SEC games that have been postponed this weekend. Additionally, UGA’s next opponent (Mississippi State) has had to close their facility due to COVID-19.

To be contrarian to this Tweet (below), the SEC has gotten through more of a season than many conferences have scheduled entirely.

College Football News ranks SEC head coaches: Where’s Kirby Smart?

College Football News ranked the top SEC head coaches. Where is Georgia football’s Kirby Smart?

Pete Fiutak of College Football News recently released a list ranking the SEC head coaches heading into the 2020 season.

Checking in at No. 3 on the list is Georgia’s Kirby Smart, who trails only Nick Saban (1) and Ed Orgeron (2).

At No. 4 is Dan Mullen and at No. 5 is Gus Malzahn.

As much as I’d love for Smart to be in that No. 2 spot, I do not disagree with Fiutak here.

Smart’s time will come, and within the next five years he may very well occupy that No. 1 spot.

For now, he’s sitting at No. 3 on Fiutak’s list, likely right on the verge of taking over that No. 2 ranking. As long as he keeps winning the SEC East, beating rivals and putting his team in striking distance for the College Football Playoff…he’ll be considered a top-five coach in America.

Orgeron or Smart at No. 2 was likely a somewhat difficult decision. Fiutak went with Coach O since he accomplished something Kirby hasn’t yet, a national championship.

I’ve heard it all – “Anyone could win with that roster.”

Sure, Smart probably would have won it with that roster LSU had last year. But, at the end of the day, he didn’t have that roster. No other way around it.

Also, how can you not love Coach O?

As for Saban, there’s no arguing that one.

Ranking SEC head coaches heading into 2020 CFB season

We ranked all the SEC head coaches, from Georgia football’s Kirby Smart, to Arkansas’ Sam Pittman, to Florida’s Dan Mullen.

The SEC is loaded with head coaching talent as we head into the 2020 college football season.

You have your usuals – Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, Gus Malzahn, Ed Orgeron, etc.

But then you have your familiar, or in some cases not-so-familiar, yet new faces: Lane Kiffin, Mike Leach, Sam Pittman, Eli Drinkwitz.

Ranking the SEC head coaches heading into the 2020 season is as hard as it’s ever been, and that’s because of all these new hirings. But it’s also because Jeremy Pruitt waited until October to start winning games in Tennessee last year. It’s because Ed Orgeron took a loaded roster and won a national title. Because Gus Malzahn and Auburn always have the talent but can’t seem to win the big ones. Or because, despite a 4-8 season, Will Muschamp was able to knock off Kirby Smart and Georgia.

14. Sam Pittman, Arkansas

I would have loved to get Pittman into a higher spot on this list, but what is there to go off of? His last head coaching job came in 1992 and 1993 when he led Hutchinson Community College to an 11–9–1 record over two seasons.

I am 100% rooting for Pittman to succeed in his first season as head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks. It won’t be easy, and this is a team that will likely finish with at least five losses for the first few years, but that’s not necessarily a terrible thing as long as they play hard.

Arkansas may not field the most talented teams in the SEC, but if there’s one thing I’m certain of it’s that the former UGA O-Line coach will make sure his guys fight harder than anybody.

13. Eli Drinkwitz, Missouri

Drinkwitz gets the No. 13 spot because of what he was able to do at App State last year. In his first season as a head coach, he led the Mountaineers to a 12-1 record and a Sun Belt championship.

But that’s not the SEC. It’s going to be a rocky road ahead for Drinkwitz, as Mizzou will definitely not be one of the more talented teams in the league for a few years.

12. Derek Mason, Vanderbilt

I often find myself rooting for Vanderbilt and Mason.

He took over at Vandy when James Franklin left for Penn State, and though it’s been tough at times, you get the feeling that Commodore fans actually look forward to their seasons.

11. Will Muschamp, South Carolina

If Muschamp had not beaten Georgia last year, he maybe would not even be on this list at all.

But he won and that probably saved his job. He coaches up a good defense, but South Carolina will need to crank up its recruiting efforts if it wants to start contending in the SEC East. Another season with no bowl game may put an end to Muschamp’s head coaching career with the Gamecocks.

10. Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss

Kiffin is a good football coach, there’s no denying that. No. 10 is pretty low for an offensive genius like him. But this conference is simply loaded.

Kiffin did a great job at Florida Atlantic, but I still need to see him win consistently at a Power 5 school.
