Bowl games on TV today: Mississippi State vs. Illinois, live stream, TV channel, time, how to watch

The No. 23 Mississippi State Bulldogs take on the Illinois Fighting Illini at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

The ReliaQuest Bowl is set to kick off on Monday at noon ET as the No. 23 Mississippi State Bulldogs take on the Illinois Fighting Illini at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

The Bulldogs will be entering the game with heavy hearts as they recently lost their head coach, Mike Leach, in November. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs managed to pull off a win in Leach’s final game, defeating Ole Miss 24-22 in the Egg Bowl. Defensive coordinator Zach Arnett has been named as the interim head coach for the game and will also be taking over as the permanent head coach for Mississippi State.

Illinois will be facing some challenges of their own in this game as three of their key players, twins Chase and Sydney Brown and CB Devon Witherspoon, have opted out. These opt-outs will be particularly damaging for the Fighting Illini as they rely heavily on their running game and their secondary.

This should be a great game between these two teams, here is everything you need to know to watch or stream the game today.

Mike Leach’s brief cameo in ‘Friday Night Lights’ was absolutely perfect

“You might be the luckiest man alive and not even know it.” Rip, Mike Leach.

Mike Leach, the legendary college football coach who was always quite comfortable being himself, died Monday night at the age of 61 after complications from a heart condition, according to a statement by Mississippi State, where had served as the football coach since 2020.

The news of his death is heartbreaking and has rocked the college football world. But it has also led to many people sharing some of his best moments, which there are a lot of as Leach always seemed to have something awesome to say about any topic that was ever brought to his attention.

Fans have also been sharing this video of his brief cameo in the great TV show “Friday Night Lights” in which he gave Coach Taylor a great little pep talk at a gas station.

This was so good:

Mississippi State Twitter account expertly trolled Lane Kiffin after Bulldogs’ Egg Bowl win

Mississippi State won the game… and then won again on Twitter.

Rumors about Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin leaving to become Auburn’s new coach have been abundant since the Tigers fired Bryan Harsin in late October. But earlier this week, Kiffin refuted a report on Twitter claiming that the Ole Miss coach is, in fact, taking the Auburn gig.

Of course, he did it in his own snarky way as one of college football Twitter’s top trolls, mimicking the tweet’s original format to joke about the reporter changing jobs.

Well, after No. 20 Ole Miss’ 24-22 loss Thursday to Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl, the Bulldogs’ main account perfectly roasted Kiffin with a taste of his own trolling.

The text from Mississippi State’s tweet reads:

THIS JUST IN

BREAKING NEWS: DAWGS. WIN. AGAIN.

MISSISSIPPI STATE DEFEATS OLE MISS TO WIN THE BATTLE FOR THE GOLDEN EGG.

STORY SOON ON HAILSTATE.COM.

Like Kiffin did in responding to the reporter about the Auburn job, Mississippi State followed with a very similar format after the rivalry game victory.

Here’s how the Ole Miss coach reacted to the job change report on Twitter earlier this week:

Kiffin wrote:

THIS JUST IN

BREAKING NEWS: JON SOKOLOFF OF #WCBINEWS IN STARKVILLE MS. PLANS TO STEP DOWN AS LEAD ANCHOR AND HEAD TO #WLOX TO BECOME THEIR NEW LEAD ANCHOR.

SOURCES SAY WLOX HASN’T OFFERED THE JOB TO ANYONE YET.

SO JON TO WLOX IS HAPPENING. STORY SOON.

And, for what it’s worth, after Ole Miss lost, Kiffin reiterated his intention to stay in Oxford. Via ESPN:

“Yes, I do,” Kiffin said Thursday when asked if he expects to return to Ole Miss next season.

Georgia football is 10-0 and SEC East champions after winning on the road at Mississippi State

The Georgia Bulldogs are now 10-0 and are SEC East champions after winning on the road at Mississippi State. Georgia’s 45-19 win over Mississippi State had some bumps in the road and did not go perfectly.

Georgia allowed a punt return for a touchdown to end the first half. That punt return kept Mississippi State in the game for much longer. Quarterback Stetson Bennett threw a pair of interceptions (one to a defensive lineman and another time his arm was hit as he released the football).

Wide receiver Ladd McConkey was fantastic for Georgia. He finished with 141 total yards and two touchdowns. Stetson Bennett finished with 4 total touchdowns and 289 passing yards.

Defensive tackle Jalen Carter had Georgia’s only sack. Safety Malaki Starks and linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson both finished with eight total tackles.

Georgia outgained Mississippi State 468 to 308. Additionally, Georgia outscored Mississippi State 28-7 in the second half to clinch a SEC championship game clash against LSU.

Georgia football drops hype trailer ahead of Mississippi State game

Physicality is what sets Georgia apart from other college football teams. Few if any teams win the battle in the trenches and tackle as well as Georgia football.

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs are playing a true road game for just the third time of the 2022 college football season. Georgia will face Mississippi State in a battle of the Bulldogs.

TV, commentators set for Georgia-Mississippi State

Who are ESPN’s commentators for Georgia-Mississippi State?

The undefeated Georgia Bulldogs (9-0, 6-0) travel to face Mississippi State (6-3, 3-3) on Saturday, Nov. 12. This season, the Mississippi State Bulldogs are 5-0 at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Mississippi.

The Mississippi State game will be Georgia’s third true road game of the season. Georgia is looking to clinch the SEC East with a win over Mississippi State.

Georgia is coming off an emotional home win over Tennessee. Who will win the battle of the Bulldogs?

A lot has changed since Georgia’s 31-24 win over Mississippi State in 2020. That game represented quarterback JT Daniels’ first career start for Georgia. Daniels, who has since transferred to West Virginia, played well against Mississippi State.

Now, Kirby Smart and Georgia will rely on experience signal-caller Stetson Bennett. Bennett and Georgia must do a better job of running against Mississippi State than they did in 2020, when Georgia totaled just eight rushing yards.

The game will kickoff at 7 p.m. EDT (6 p.m. local time) and will air on ESPN. The ESPN commentators for the SEC conference game are Sean McDonough (play-by-play),Todd Blackledge (analyst), and Molly McGrath (sideline reporter).

Can Georgia secure a second straight trip to the SEC championship? Winning on the road in the SEC is always tough. The Georgia Bulldogs have not played on the road since playing at Missouri on Oct. 1. Mississippi State is in a good position to make this an interesting game since Georgia is coming off a physical and emotional win.

PHOTOS: Alabama’s bounce-back win over Mississippi State

Check out the top images from Alabama’s big win over Mississippi State!

Alabama now heads into an off week before facing LSU on the road in Week 10. After losing to Tennessee in Knoxville, the Crimson Tide returned home to take on a then-ranked Mississippi State team with a high-powered offense.

The Bulldogs’ offense remained silent until the game’s closing seconds, as Mike Leach’s team escaped a shutout. The final score was 30-6.

Bryce Young didn’t look as sharp as he did to start the season, but Nick Saban stated he is still nursing the shoulder injury that sidelined him for a few games earlier this season.

The Crimson Tide defense stole the spotlight from the typically high-powered offense, but no one’s complaining.

Here are the top images from the Week 8 win over the Bulldogs.
