Texas A&M baseball now knows who they will face in the SEC Tournament

Texas A&M will face Mississippi State in the second round of the SEC Tournament on Wednesday evening

Texas A&M (44-11, 19-11 SEC) now knows its opponent in the second round of the SEC Tournament on Wednesday evening. The Aggies will gear up to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs (37-19, 17-13 SEC), who defeated Ole Miss 2-1 on Tuesday night.

In a low-scoring affair, the Rebels held a 1-0 lead until the final inning before Bulldogs center fielders Connor Hujsak’s two-run home run in the 9th to end Ole Miss’s season. Already in the NCAA Tournament, this win certainly helps the Bulldogs chances of potentially hosting a regional, but there’s work to be done.

For the Aggies, winning their final regular season series vs. Arkansas solidified a Top 8 seed in the postseason. A second consecutive trip to the SEC Championship game should further solidify a Top 4 seed realistically.

While pitching has been stellar in the last two weeks, Texas A&M’s offense finally returned to its powerful ways in Game 3 with a 14-4 run-rule romp on Saturday afternoon.

Texas A&M vs. Mississippi State will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 7, which will begin at 4:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on the SEC Network. During the regular season, Texas A&M won its lone series vs. Mississippi State.

Texas A&M baseball now knows its SEC Tournament seeding

Texas A&M will take on the winner of 5-seed Mississippi State vs. 12-seed Ole Miss on Wednesday

Texas A&M (44-11, 19-11 SEC) finished the regular season on a high note, winning the final regular season series vs. Arkansas this weekend. However, the Razorbacks still went on to win the SEC West regular season title with a 6-3 victory in Game 2.

What was truly inspiring for every Aggie fan heading into next week’s tournament was not just Texas A&M’s collective performance at the plate but also the individual triumphs. In the afternoon, Texas A&M hit over .400 with five home runs and seven walks, and Braden Montgomery, a player we all root for, finally broke his slump with his 26th home run of the year.

Ending the season with 19 SEC wins, the Aggies are now a 4-seed in the SEC Tournament, set to face the winner of 5-seed Mississippi State vs. 12-seed Ole Miss, who will play on Tuesday, 30 minutes after the conclusion of 8-seed Vanderbilt vs. 9-seed Florida.

Whoever prevails will face the Aggies in Game 8 on Wednesday night. The game will take place 30 minutes after the first-seed Tennessee’s game vs. Vanderbilt or Florida.

LSU drops back-to-back SEC series with Sunday’s Game 3 collapse against Mississippi State

The Tigers led 13-4 in the sixth, but a Bulldogs rally erased that lead as LSU lost another conference series.

After blowing a lead late in Game 2, LSU looked to rebound and take the series against Mississippi State in Game 3. Instead, the Tigers saw a similar result as they squandered a 13-4 lead in the sixth inning to fall to the Bulldogs 14-13 in extras.

[autotag]Brayden Jobert[/autotag] got the game started off right as he hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the second inning to give LSU a 3-0 lead.

Mississippi State got one of those runs back in the top of the third inning as the Bulldogs hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1. LSU got that run back plus one more in the bottom of the inning as [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] hit a solo homer and [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] hit an RBI double to give LSU a 5-1 lead after three innings.

Things started to unravel in the top of the fourth, though, as the Bulldogs scored three runs against [autotag]Gavin Guidry[/autotag] to cut the lead to 5-4. Once again, the Tigers answered. It all started with an error to score [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag]. After that, things went downhill fast for Mississippi State. [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] hit an RBI single, [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] reached on a fielder’s choice but got an RBI, and Jobert hit a two-RBI single to make it 10-4 LSU.

Mississippi State loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning against [autotag]Griffin Herring[/autotag] but [autotag]Christian Little[/autotag] came in and got the Tigers out of the jam without allowing any runs. After a Gavin Dugas double to start the bottom of the fifth, Morgan hit a two-run homer to increase the Tiger lead to 12-4. Hayden Travinski followed that with an RBI single to make it 13-4.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Bulldogs clawed their way back into the game as an RBI single and a three-run homer cut the lead to 13-8. In the top of the seventh inning, the Tiger lead came crashing down as Mississippi State scored five runs against three different pitchers to tie the game at 13.

What once looked as if it would be another run-rule victory had now become a tie game.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Bulldogs loaded the bases before [autotag]Riley Cooper[/autotag] got LSU out of the threat unscathed. In the bottom of the ninth inning, [autotag]Josh Pearson[/autotag] drew a walk to put the winning run on first base. [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] came into run for Pearson.

Kling advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and he advanced to third on a flyout by Morgan. Crews and White were intentionally walked to load the bases as [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] stepped into the box. He fouled out, and we headed to extras.

In the top of the 10th, the Bulldogs took the lead on a fielder’s choice to give them a 14-13 lead. Jones, Jobert, and Thompson were LSU’s final hope. Jones struck out swinging for out No. 1. Jobert walked to put the winning run at first. Thompson hit a fly ball into a double play and the game ended in a 14-13 Mississippi State victory.

With the loss, LSU drops to 39-12 and 17-9 in conference play. LSU has now lost two straight conference series. The next game will be on Tuesday against McNeese.

SEC baseball power rankings after 4 weeks of conference play

This weekend in the SEC was a wild one, to say the least.

This weekend in the SEC was a wild one, to say the least. Georgia won a series against Kentucky, Mississippi State beat Alabama on the road, and South Carolina and LSU tied.

Add to that the fact that Vanderbilt lost its first conference game of the season against Missouri while Texas A&M beat Auburn on the road, and you have yourself a wild weekend.

Mother Nature was the real winner of the series between LSU and South Carolina. The teams were only able to play two games and thanks to the heroics of [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag], LSU was able to go home 1-1 instead of 0-2.

Here’s how the SEC teams stack up in this week’s power rankings.

Mississippi State outlasts Notre Dame, eliminate Irish in NCAA tournament

Even with the loss, it was a great season for the Irish

After the top of the first inning, it looked like Notre Dame had the momentum after a dominating game two win. It just wasn’t meant to be for the Irish, as Mississippi State posted double digit runs en route to a berth in the College World Series.

Starter Will Mercer didn’t bring his A-game and it seemed like every time the Irish would answer MSU, the Bulldogs had an answer of their own.

After falling behind 7-1 after two innings, the Irish offense faced their largest deficit of the NCAA tournament and just couldn’t dig themselves out of it. You have to love the fact that they didn’t ever fold, Link Jarrett’s team played their hearts out to the end. It just wasn’t enough, as the Bulldogs used their 6-run second to cushion their way to the CWS. Tanner Allen hit two homers for MSU,

Jarrett tried to keep his team within striking distance, even bringing back game one starter John Michael Bertrand, who was magnificent in his three innings. The Irish tried to mount a comeback but it was all for naught.

The highlight of the game for the Irish was undoubtedly their best players efforts, Niko Kavadas. He absolutely crushed a ball off Landon Sims that left Dudy Noble Field.

It has been a fantastic first full season under Link Jarrett, that shouldn’t be lost after getting eliminated tonight. This team won’t be the same next year, but if this is the kind of effort and results behind Jarrett squads, its going to be a very prosperous era of Notre Dame baseball.
