Michigan State Football lands commitment of 2021 3-star WR/DB Kobe Myers

Kobe Myers, a 3-star athlete from Waterford Mott, has committed to Michigan State University.

Mel Tucker and the Michigan State Football team now have four commitments for the recruiting class of 2021, all four of whom are 3-star recruits. On Monday night, Waterford Mott 3-star athlete Kobe Myers committed to MSU.

Myers is the No. 57 ranked player in the state of Michigan according to the 247sports composite rankings. Myers is listed as an “athlete” which means he can play multiple positions, but from what I have seen when looking through what highlights are available it looks like he can play wide receiver, defensive back, and return kicks. Tucker is looking to stock his future squad up with speed and athleticism on the wings and size in the trenches, and Myers looks to be a good addition to that profile.

Here is his announcement via Twitter:

You can check out some of Myers’ highlights below:

WATCH: Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker to former players: ‘You are welcome here.’

A video message of Tucker welcoming back all former players is making the rounds on social media

New Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker has a message to all former Spartan players: “You are welcome here.”

A video on social media is making the rounds today of a message from Tucker to former players, saying they are all welcome in the program regardless of when they played, how much they won, who they played for, etc.

In the message Tucker says he wants the former players around the program as much as possible, even joking they can stand next to him at practice and hold his whistle.

It may seem like an obvious gesture, but having a strong, connected and passionate alumni base within the program can be very impactful. Michigan State has done that in the past and it’s good to see that continue with the new regime. Tucker also recently hosted a large video conference meeting with a bunch of former players and reportedly been reaching out to former players to make connections with them. He’s also hired a number of former players, including Darien Harris Director of Player Engagement, Harlon Barnett as Defensive Backs Coach, and Courtney Hawkins as Wide Receivers Coach.

Michigan State football favored over Miami, underdog to Michigan, Ohio State per BetMGM

BetMGM has released future odds for key games in the 2020 college football season

The college football season is a bit up in the air right now due to the uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic, but that isn’t stopping sports books from releasing point spreads!

Michigan State is featured in three of BetMGM’s key games during the 2020 college football season. Mel Tucker’s Spartans are currently favored in their home matchup with Miami (Fl) and are underdogs against Michigan and Ohio State. The point spreads are:

  • MSU -2.5 vs Miami
  • MSU +6.5 vs. UofM
  • MSU +17.5 vs. Ohio State

Odds via BetMGM. Access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Saturday at 9 p.m. ET.

It has been pretty clear the sports books aren’t expecting much from MSU in Mel Tucker’s first season. Season win totals have been set as low as 4.5 and as high as 6. Many fans have said that Tucker guiding the Spartans to a bowl game in his first season would be a success. Considering the talent that left after the 2019 season, how late Tucker and his staff were hired and COVID-19, that sounds about right.

It’s a little surprising that Michigan State is favored over Miami, although the Hurricanes are far from a stable program right now. The similarities between the two programs run deep. Michigan is again expected to be good this year, but it looks like the books are expecting Ohio State to be among the very best teams in the country yet again. Not really a surprise there given the talent they are bringing back.

2021 3-star DB Gabe “Spida” Nealy commits to Michigan State Football

Michigan State has landed their third recruit of the 2021 class in Gulliver Prep’s Gabe Nealy.

Michigan State Football now has its third official commitment in the Mel Tucker era, as 2021 3-star defensive back Gabe “Spida” Nealy announced his decision on Twitter on Saturday. Nealy comes out of Miami, Florida and Gulliver Prep.

Nealy is listed as a 6’4″, 175-pound safety on 247sports, which is quite tall for a defensive back. 247sports has him as the No. 67 safety in the 2021 class and the No. 133 in the state of Florida.

Here is Nealy’s announcement, posted on Saturday afternoon:

As we mentioned, this is the third commitment of the 2021 MSU recruiting class. All three players are well-regarded three-star prospects.

Here is the full 2021 class:

With Tucker coming in at an awkward time of the recruiting process, it took a few weeks for his staff to pick up momentum on the recruiting front, but after sending out a bevy of offers it looks like some of those efforts are starting to pay off.

Meet Darrell Stewart, Jr., Michigan State’s do-it-all WR prospect

Check out Draft Wire’s exclusive interview with Michigan State wide receiver prospect Darrell Stewart, Jr.

NFL teams love wide receiver prospects who can line up on the outside or in the slot, as well as the ability to make an immediate impact on special teams.

One such prospect in this year’s class is Michigan State’s Darrell Stewart, Jr., who recently spoke exclusively with Draft Wire about his experience at the NFL Scouting Combine, how his own teammates prepared him for the next level, and why an NFL team should take a chance on him in this year’s draft.

JM: How would you describe your skill set?

DSJR: I was a big play-maker throughout my time at Michigan State. I’m a guy that can play every receiver position on the field. Michigan State moved me around a lot and the results remained consistent. I’ve played both inside and outside. I did damage in the slot. I’m very comfortable with that. I’m a big guy but I’m good with the ball in my hands. I make things happen after the catch. I can go up and make the tough, difficult catches.

JM: What was your experience like at the NFL Scouting Combine?

DSJR: It was a great experience. I’ve been watching the combine ever since I was a small child. I grew up watching it alongside my cousins and brothers. We all used to gather around the television. To just be there was an amazing experience. It was very surreal. I was around so many great players and coaches. I enjoyed competing alongside the best athletes in the nation. It was an amazing experience that we all shared together.

JM: Taking every aspect of the combine into account, what do you feel is the overall impression that you left out there?

DSJR: I believe that the NFL teams walked away from meeting me and said to themselves, “Hey, that guy is ready to hit the ground running.” I’m not looking to come in as a rookie to just sit back and watch. I wanna come in and be a play-maker from Day 1. I just wanna play. I’m happy to play special teams and make my impact felt there. I just wanna be a productive member of the team. I’ll be ready to go once my number gets called.

JM: Who are some of the teams that you’ve met with via FaceTime recently?

DSJR: I’ve met with the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens recently.

JM: Do you have a favorite route to run?

DSJR: I love running a post-corner route. Michigan State allowed me to run that route quite frequently in the red zone. I would line up inside and the defense would usually have a safety in single-high that had to pay attention to me. I can sell the vertical route with my eyes and get him to peel off me. I would then hit that post move pretty hard and make him bite. I take that third step outside and I’m off to the races.

JM: Playing at Michigan State afforded you the opportunity to play against some of the best competition college football has to offer. Who are some of the best defensive backs you’ve played against?

DSJR: I always think back to my own teammates. Khari Willis was one of those guys at Michigan State. Josiah Scott also comes to mind. He’s a cornerback that’s in this draft class as well. He’s a great guy. I can’t forget about Justin Layne. Willis and Layne are already playing in the NFL and Scott isn’t too far behind. Going up against all three of those guys on a daily basis at practice made me a better player. All of those guys are so competitive, especially Willis. Khari Willis is super competitive. He didn’t wanna lose at anything (laughs). That’s what I liked about him. I appreciate all of those guys.

JM: Why should an NFL team use one of their draft picks on Darrell Stewart, Jr.?

DSJR: They’re gonna get somebody that loves the game of football. I’m gonna go out there and practice like a pro so that I’m ready to contribute on game day. I’m gonna put my best foot forward and make sure that I’m doing everything that I can to help the team win games. I’m gonna be a productive guy at the next level. I’m gonna make things happen.

MSU Football offers 2022 4-star OLB Joshua Burnham, No. 2 ranked prospect in Michigan

Michigan State has offered one of the top players in the state of Michigan in Traverse City Central’s Joshua Burnham.

[jwplayer PPs4Ox8k]

The 2021 recruiting class is just starting to begin taking shape with the commitment of Davion Primm, but Mel Tucker and his staff at Michigan State already have their eyes set on 2022. On Wednesday, Joshua Burnham of Traverse City Central High School announced that he has been re-offered by the Spartans. Burnham is the No. 2 ranked player in the state of Michigan in the 2022 recruiting class according to 247sports.

Burnham is a 4-star prospect and the No. 6 ranked outside linebacker in his class. He is also in the top-100 recruits overall in the 2022 class, coming in at No. 75 in the country.

Since he came into the school during peak 2021 recruiting season, 2022 will be the true first fair test for Mel Tucker and his recruiting team and they will look to prove that they can bring top-end talent to East Lansing. Bringing in a player of Burnham’s caliber would send a huge statement for the program.

WATCH: Michigan State Football coaching staff puts out hilarious Full House Tik Tok

The Michigan State Football coaching staff put their own spin on the Full House intro in a hilarious Tik Tok video.

[jwplayer PPs4Ox8k]

In this edition of, ‘The most 2020 thing I’ve seen all week’, the Michigan State Football team has officially created a Tik Tok account, and I have to give them some credit because they put out a pretty hilarious video to launch the new account of the coaching staff in a funny take on the Full House intro.

Here are a few of my favorite moments:

  • Special Teams Coordinator Ross Els using an elaborate Ferris Bueller-esque setup to chill on the couch during the quarantine.
  • Offensive Line Coach Chris Kapilovic pushing car because of course the offensive line coach is pushing a car.
  • Defensive Line Coach Ron Burton sinking a putt. Great form. This was my Masters moment.
