Analyzing Friday’s Washington Nationals at Miami Marlins odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Washington Nationals (10-14) and Miami Marlins (6-20) open a 4-game series at loanDepot Park Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Nationals vs. Marlins odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Marlins won 11-2 last season

The Nationals are coming off a 2-1 loss as +154 home underdogs against the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday with the Under (7.5) hitting. Washington was swept for the 1st time this season and scored a total of just 4 runs over the 3-game series.

The Marlins have also lost 3 straight after getting swept by the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. The most recent loss was a 4-3 defeat as +234 underdogs Thursday as the Under (9) cashed.

Nationals at Marlins projected starters

RHP Trevor Williams vs. RHP Anthony Maldonado

Williams (2-0, 2.91 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 0.97 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 7.5 K/9 in 21 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 4 K in 5-4 home win in 10 innings vs. Houston Astros Saturday
  • Career vs. Marlins: 1-4, 5.26 ERA (51 1/3 IP, 30 ER), 1.32 WHIP in 8 starts and 5 relief appearances, including 0-3 with a 7.59 ERA (21 1/3 IP, 18 ER) in 4 starts last season

Maldonado makes his MLB debut Friday, serving as Miami’s opener.

  • 2024 stats with Triple-A Jacksonville: 3-0, 2.31 ERA (11 2/3 IP, 3 ER), 0.77 WHIP in 8 relief appearances
  • Hasn’t pitched more than 2 innings in an appearance this year in the minors

Nationals at Marlins picks and predictions

Prediction

Nationals 4, Marlins 3

Moneyline

The NATIONALS (+105) getting plus money seems like a good bet vs. the Marlins, especially since Miami will be having a bullpen day. Williams has allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in 3 of his 4 starts this season and should have no trouble shutting down Miami’s offense, which is 28th in MLB in runs per game (3.38).

BET NATIONALS (+105).

Run line/Against the spread

The Nationals should cover the +1.5, but betting MLB teams at -190 is a losing proposition long term.

PASS. Bet the ML and/or total instead.

Over/Under

The Under has gone 6-1-1 in Washington’s last 8 games and 5-1 in Miami’s last 6. The Nationals and Marlins are 21st and 25th, respectively, in hits per game, and Williams hasn’t given up more than 3 earned runs in a start this season.

BET UNDER 8.5 (-110).

Miami Marlins at Atlanta Braves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Miami Marlins at Atlanta Braves odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Marlins (6-19) and Atlanta Braves (16-6) meet Wednesday for the finale of a 3-game series. First pitch from Truist Park is set for 7:20 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Marlins vs. Braves odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Atlanta leads 2-0

Atlanta routed the Marlins 5-0 Tuesday while cashing as a -258 home favorite. LHP Max Fried pitched a complete 9 innings, allowing 0 earned runs on 3 hits and 0 walks with 6 strikeouts. The Braves scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning and 3 runs in the 6th.

LHP Trevor Rogers was credited with the loss, pitching 5 2/3 innings while allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits and 1 walk with 4 K’s. Miami only had 3 total bases in the loss as 7 Marlins hitters went 0 for 3 or worse vs. Atlanta.

Marlins at Braves projected starters

RHP Sixto Sanchez vs. RHP Reynaldo Lopez

Sanchez (0-1, 6.14 ERA) makes his 1st start and 8th appearance. He has a 1.50 WHIP, 3.7 BB/9 and 3.7 K/9 in 7 1/3 innings.

  • 2024 road splits: 0-1, 11.57 ERA (2 1/3 IP, 3 ER), 5 H, 1 BB, 0 K in 3 relief appearances
  • Career vs. Atlanta: 1-0, 3.60 ERA (10 IP, 4 ER), 7 H, 6 BB, 9 K across 2 starts and 1 relief appearance

Lopez (2-0, 0.50 ERA) makes his 4th start. He has a 0.94 WHIP, 9.0 BB/9 and 3.0 K/9 in 18 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 7 K in 6-2 road win over Houston Astros April 16
  • Career vs. Miami: 0-1, 3.60 ERA (10 IP, 4 ER), 7 H, 3 BB, 11 K across 1 start and 2 relief appearances

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Marlins at Braves picks and predictions

Prediction

Braves 7, Marlins 4

Moneyline

PASS.

I like Atlanta (-225) to pick up the win here, but the Braves are not worth the risk of betting on as such heavy favorites. Bet on the spread and/or O/U instead.

Run line/Against the spread

BET BRAVES -1.5 (-114).

Atlanta has won each of its last 3 matchups vs. the Marlins, and none of Atlanta’s last 6 wins vs. Miami came by a margin of fewer than 2 runs. The Braves have also been the much better team ATS this season at 12-10, while the Marlins are 8-17.

The Braves are also the much better team in this matchup, making this bet even more favorable.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 9 (-120).

The Over has hit in 7 of the last 10 Miami-Atlanta matchups overall and is 3-2 in Atlanta’s last 5 wins vs. the Marlins. The Over has also been slightly safer for both teams this season at 13-12 for the Marlins on the year and 12-9-1 for the Braves.

This is only a lean because the Under is 3-1 in Miami’s last 4 and has hit in 2 of Atlanta’s last 3 games.

Miami Marlins at Atlanta Braves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Miami Marlins at Atlanta Braves odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Marlins (6-17) and Atlanta Braves (14-6) open a 3-game series at Truist Park Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Marlins vs. Braves odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Braves lead 2-1

Miami split its series with the Chicago Cubs 2-2 this past weekend after winning 6-3 Sunday and cashing as a +110 road underdog. Five different Marlins players scored a run, while RF Jesus Sanchez had 2 runs and 2 RBIs, including a solo shot in the 2nd inning. RHP Edward Cabrera allowed 3 earned runs in 5 innings and picked up the win.

The Braves failed to complete a 3-game sweep of the Texas Rangers after falling 6-4 Sunday as -150 home favorites. DH Marcell Ozuna had 3 RBIs and a home run, while RF Ronald Acuna Jr. scored 2 runs. RHP Darius Vines allowed 4 earned runs in 5 innings and picked up the loss.

Marlins at Braves projected starters

LHP Ryan Weathers vs. RHP Bryce Elder

Weathers (2-1, 2.70 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 1.35 WHIP, 4.1 BB/9 and 9.9 K/9 in 20 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 10 K in 6-3 home victory vs. San Francisco Giants Tuesday
  • Marlins are 2-2 in his 4 starts this season and 2-0 in his last 2
  • Has struck out 22 batters this season while walking 9

Elder (12-4, 3.81 ERA in 2023) makes his season debut. He had a 1.28 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9 and 6.6 K/9 in 174 2/3 innings across 31 starts last season.

  • 2024 stats with Gwinnett (AAA): 2-0, 3.31 ERA (16 1/3 IP, 6 ER), 1.16 WHIP in 3 starts
  • 2023 home stats: 7-1, 3.61 ERA (94 2/3 IP, 38 ER), 1.23 WHIP in 17 starts
  • Career vs. Marlins: 1-2, 3.38 ERA (40 IP, 15 ER), 1.18 WHIP in 7 starts

  • Over/Under (O/U): 9.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Marlins at Braves picks and predictions

Prediction

Braves 5, Marlins 3

Moneyline

PASS.

There is minimal value on the Braves (-210), who are 14-6 this season and 7-3 in their last 10 games, to beat a Marlins squad that is 6-17 on the year.

Run line/Against the spread

BET BRAVES -1.5 (-110).

The Marlins are averaging 3.7 runs per game, while the Braves are averaging 6.25. Miami has lost by 2 or more runs in 5 of its last 6 losses, while Atlanta has won by 2 or more in 6 of its last 7 victories. Expect Elder to make the most of this opportunity after being called up from the minors.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 9.5 (-115).

While the Braves offense can carry this game to the Over, both Weathers and Elder are capable of keeping runs off the board. The Braves have held opponents to 3 or fewer runs in 4 of their last 6 games, while the Marlins have scored 3 or fewer in 4 of their last 5.

Miami Marlins at Chicago Cubs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Miami Marlins at Chicago Cubs odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Marlins (4-15) and Chicago Cubs (11-7) open a 4-game series at Wrigley Field Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Marlins vs. Cubs odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Marlins won 4-2 last season

The Cubs finished their 3-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday, winning 5-3 as +113 underdogs in the final matchup. Chicago has played 9 straight games on the road and is 5-1 straight up at home. It is 13-5 against the spread (ATS) this season.

The Marlins lost to the San Francisco Giants 3-1 Wednesday, failing to pull off the upset as +103 underdogs. They have lost 3 of their last 4 games and closed as underdogs in 12 straight. Miami is 6-13 ATS.

Marlins at Cubs projected starters

LHP AJ Puk vs. RHP Jameson Taillon

Puk (0-3, 5.91 ERA) makes his 4th start. He has a 2.44 WHIP, 11.8 BB/9 and 6.7 K/9 in 10 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 4 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 5 BB, 2 K in 3-2 road loss to New York Yankees April 9
  • Marlins have been outscored 20-6 in his 3 starts
  • 2023 road splits: 3-2, 2.22 ERA (24 1/3 IP, 6 ER), 16 H, 4 BB, 27 K in 24 relief appearances

Taillon (8-10, 4.84 ERA in 2023) makes his 1st start of 2024. He had a 1.28 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.2 K/9 in 154 1/3 innings in 2023.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Marlins at Cubs picks and predictions

Prediction

Cubs 6, Marlins 3

Moneyline

PASS.

The Cubs (-156) are fine to play on the moneyline here, but the preferred value for this one is on the spread.

Run line/Against the spread

BET CUBS -1.5 (+132).

The Cubs are the best team ATS in MLB, having covered in 13 of 18 games. The Marlins, on the other hand, are the worst team ATS in MLB at 6-13. They are 6-6 ATS as underdogs, while Chicago is 3-1 ATS as a favorite.

Puk has struggled immensely, and the Marlins have typically been blown out in his starts. While Taillon is making his 1st start, he is a veteran and should be able to perform well.

The Cubs are also 4-2 ATS at home. Considering those trends and given the plus-money value on the home favorites, back CUBS -1.5 (+132).

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 7.5 (-118).

The Cubs have gone Over in 9 of 18 games and tallied 16 runs in their last 2. They have scored at least 8 runs in 7 of 18 games as well.

The Marlins are 11-8 O/U on the season and have alternated going Over and Under in 7 straight games. Miami has gone Over in 2 of Puk’s 3 starts.

Back OVER 7.5 (-118).

Miami Marlins at New York Yankees odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Miami Marlins at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Marlins (1-11) and New York Yankees (10-2) meet Wednesday as they put a lid on a 3-game series in the Bronx. First pitch at Yankee Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET (Prime Video). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Marlins vs. Yankees odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: New York leads 2-0

Miami has registered just 6 hits (5 singles and 1 double) in the 1st 2 games of this series. The Marlins have scored 2 runs or less in 5 of their last 7 games.

The Yankees have ridden strong pitching in winning 7-0 Tuesday and 3-2 on Wednesday.  The New York staff owns a 2.48 ERA for the season.

Marlins at Yankees projected starters

LHP Ryan Weathers vs. RHP Marcus Stroman

Weathers (0-1, 4.00 ERA) is making his 3rd start. He has registered a 1.67 WHIP, 5.0 BB/9 and 11.0 K/9 in 9 IP.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 5 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 6 K in 8-5 loss at St. Louis Cardinals Thursday
  • Has never faced the Yankees

Stroman (1-0, 0.00 ERA) is also tabbed for start No. 3. He owns a 0.83 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 7.5 K/9 in 12 IP.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 6 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 6 K in 3-0 loss vs. Toronto Blue Jays Friday
  • Career vs. Marlins: 1-0, 3.00 ERA (30 IP, 10 ER), 27 H, 6 BB, 29 K

  • Over/Under (O/U): 8.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Marlins at Yankees picks and predictions

Prediction

Yankees 6, Marlins 4

Moneyline

PASS: the Yanks are a lean but only a value up to about -215.

Run line/Against the spread

None of Miami’s last 10 losses have been by multiple runs. A Yankee offense making better contact is more dangerous than what was a bottom-3rd group a year ago. These Yankee batters do not chase bad pitches, and that’s problematic for Weathers, who owns a high 9.4% career walk rate.

FanDuel Sportsbook offers the best leverage here: consider a partial-unit play on NEW YORK -1.5 (-110).

Over/Under

Both offenses have been hampered by some ball-in-play bad luck so far.

Weathers’ command issues could set up a crooked-number inning or 2 for New York, and peg Stroman as being due some regression this 3rd time out.

The Over has been the play the last 2 nights and has not cashed. It’s the play again here, but to a slightly lesser degree: go in with a partial-unit play on the OVER 8.5 (-115).

Miami Marlins at New York Yankees odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Miami Marlins at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Marlins (1-10) and New York Yankees (9-2) meet Tuesday as they play the 2nd game a 3-game series in the Bronx. First pitch at Yankee Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Marlins vs. Yankees odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: New York leads 1-0

The Marlins opened their season with 9 straight losses. They snapped that skid with a Sunday triumph at the St. Louis Cardinals but were then dumped 7-0 in the Monday lid-lifter to this series at Yankee Stadium. Miami had just 2 hits Monday and has clocked a mere .586 OPS for the the season.

The Yankees rode a strong pitching performance by LHP Nestor Cortes and 3-run home runs by SS Anthony Volpe and RF Juan Soto in Monday’s win. New York has won 3 straight games, slashing a .294/.412/.533 (.945 OPS) along the way.

Marlins at Yankees projected starters

LHP A.J. Puk vs. LHP Carlos Rodon

Puk (0-2, 9.00 ERA) is making his 3rd start this season. He has registered a 2.83 WHIP, 13.5 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9 in 6 innings.

  • Last outing: Loss, 4 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 5 K in 10-2 loss vs. Los Angeles Angels Wednesday
  • Career vs. Yankees: 0-1, 3.86 ERA (4 2/3 IP, 2 ER), 3 H, 3 BB, 7 K in 6 relief appearances
  • Prior to this year, had appeared in 142 career games, all as a reliever

Rodon (0-0, 2.79 ERA) is tabbed for his 3rd start. He owns a 1.76 WHIP, 4.7 BB/9 and 6.5 K/9 in 9 2/3 innings.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 3 K in 6-5 win at Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday
  • Career vs. Marlins: 1-0, 1.64 ERA (11 IP, 2 ER), 6 H, 5 BB, 7 K in 2 starts

Marlins at Yankees picks and predictions

Prediction

Yankees 6, Marlins 4

Moneyline

PASS: no value here.

Run line/Against the spread

Miami’s last 9 losses have all been by multiple runs. A Yankee offense making better contact is more dangerous than what was a bottom-3rd group a year ago.

FanDuel Sportsbook offers the best leverage here: peg NEW YORK -1.5 (+112) as being worth a partial-unit play.

Over/Under

Both offenses have been hampered by some ball-in-play bad luck so far. Puk as a starter is a question mark, and he’s backed by a bullpen that has yielded too much hard contact while posting a 5.69 ERA.

Rodon is not the pitcher he was when he was notching a 2.67 ERA over 2021-22 for the Chicago White Sox. The veteran port-sider now runs into more bats and exhibits less control.

The Over 8 was a moderate-strength play Monday but didn’t cash when the Marlins failed to participate in the total. The OVER 8 (-115) is an even stronger play in this 2nd game.

Miami Marlins at New York Yankees odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Miami Marlins at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Marlins (1-9) and New York Yankees (8-2) meet Monday as they swing into a 3-game set in the Bronx. First pitch at Yankee Stadium is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Marlins vs. Yankees odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Miami won last year’s series 2-1

The Marlins snapped a lid-lifting 9-game losing streak Sunday when  they defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 10-3. Miami’s 10 runs were more than the club had scored over its previous 4 games.

The Yankees took 2 of 3 from the Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend. New York was shut out Friday, but bounced back with 17 runs over the weekend.

Marlins at Yankees projected starters

LHP Jesus Luzardo vs. LHP Nestor Cortes

Luzardo (0-1, 4.35 ERA) makes his 3rd start. He has a 0.97 WHIP, 3.5 BB/9 and 11.3 K/9 in 10 1/3 IP.

  • Career vs. Yankees: 0-2, 24.55 ERA (3 2/3 IP, 10 ER), 10 H, 3 BB, 2 K

Cortes (0-1, 6.30 ERA) is tabbed for his 3rd start. He owns a 1.70 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9 and 6.3 K/9 in 10 IP.

The Marlins have legitimately been as bad as their record indicates so far. That is to say underlying analytics do not paint a rosier picture than 4.00 runs per game vs. 6.50 RPG allowed.

And the Yankees thus far appear to have fixed its offensive woes from a year ago when they ranked 25th in MLB run scoring (4.15 RPG). With RF Juan Soto (.873 OPS) and SS Anthony Volpe (1.093 OPS) providing from level-swing, gap-to-gap prowess, the Yanks have cut their strikeout rate while averaging a more representative 4.90 RPG.

That being said, starting pitching makes baseball betting unique. And Luzardo is the better starter. Cortes just is not the same pitcher he was in 2021-22 when he clocked a 2.61 ERA, 0.98 WHIP over 50 games. The New York port-sider has been running into a lot of bats and does not have the same excellent control he had a couple years back.

There is a lot of gravity in baseball. It keeps clubs from playing .100 baseball at one end and .818 ball at the other.

Peg MIAMI +135 as being worthy of a partial-unit play.

Run line/Against the spread

A Miami lean, but we should want a price more in the -140 or -145 range. AVOID.

Over/Under

Both offenses have been hampered by some ball-in-play bad luck so far. And even being the more likable starter in this match-up, Luzardo has allowed plenty of loud contact so far.

The Yanks suffered a key bullpen loss the other day when RHP Jonathan Loaisaga went down with a season-ending injury. That hole in the relief corps plus some potential unavailability elsewhere in the bullpen dings the New York run-prevention sector of this one.

Miami Marlins at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Miami Marlins at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami Marlins (0-7) open a 3-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals (3-4) Thursday. First pitch at Busch Stadium is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Marlins vs. Cardinals and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Cardinals won 4-3 last season

The Marlins lost in embarrassing fashion Wednesday, a 10-2 defeat to the Los Angeles Angels in Miami. Entering Thursday, only Miami and the New York Mets — who have played 3 fewer games — remain winless. The Over is 6-1 in Marlins games this season.

The Cardinals battled back in their quest to sweep the San Diego Padres Wednesday but lost 3-2, falling as (+142) road underdogs. LHP Zack Thompson walked 4, allowed 3 stolen bases and served up a HR in the loss.

Marlins at Cardinals projected starters

LHP Ryan Weathers vs. RHP Lance Lynn

Weathers (0-1, 6.75 ERA) makes his 2nd start. He allowed 3 ER on 7 H and 2 BB with 5 K in 4 IP in his debut vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday.

  • The 24-year-old was having a strong spring (2 ER in 13 2/3 IP) until his last spring training start against St. Louis March 15; he allowed 4 ER on 7 H in 4 1/3 IP
  • 2023 road splits: 1-5, 5.82 ERA (43 1/3 IP, 28 ER — 8 HR), 25 BB, 33 K in 8 starts.

Lynn (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his 2nd start. He allowed 4 H and 1 BB with 5 K in 4 scoreless innnings in his debut at the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday.

  • The 36-year-old is back with St. Louis; he won a World Series with it in his 2011 rookie season
  • Is 4-3 in 10 career games vs. Miami with a 5.48 ERA through 46 IP; his highest ERA vs. any opponent

Marlins at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 5, Marlins 2

Moneyline

INCLUDE IN A ML PARLAY.

This is a lot of juice to lay on its own, but I certainly understand fading a Marlins team that isn’t playing well behind its pitching, according to manager Skip Schumaker. If you like the MINNESOTA TWINS (-152) at home with Pablo Lopez on the mound vs. the Cleveland Guardians, pairing CARDINALS (-154) with Twins ML pays out +173.

Run line

BET CARDINALS -1.5 (+130).

Lynn was solid out the gate vs. a tough L.A. lineup, stranding 3 in the 1st inning with 3 straight strikeouts. His 1st start wrapped up early after a 40-minute weather delay, and he finished with scoreless innings and 5 K’s.

With no weather issues to contend with Thursday, expect Lynn to shut down Marlins bats before turning it over to a solid (so far) Cardinals bullpen.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8 (-104).

The Marlins bullpen has coughed up a league-high 6 HRs thus far, but they could catch some breaks at Busch Stadium, as it ranks as a top-10 HR-depressing ballpark. Plus, Miami’s offense has only hit 4 HRs thus far, tied for the fewest in the National League.

The 2024 Marlins lineup lacks punch without Jorge Soler in the heart of the order, and CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. (.130 AVG), 2B Luis Arraez (.185 AVG), OF Avisail Garcia (.167 AVG) and SS Tim Anderson (10 strikeouts in 26 at-bats) are off to rough starts.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Miami Marlins odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at Miami Marlins odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Pittsburgh Pirates (1-0) and Miami Marlins (0-1) meet for the 2nd game of a 4-game series Friday with 1st pitch from loanDepot Park set for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Pirates vs. Marlins odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Pittsburgh leads 1-0

The Pirates picked up a 6-5 win in 12 innings as +112 road underdogs Thursday to spoil Miami’s home opener. The Pirates scored 3 runs in the the 7th and 8th innings to tie the game at 5. Pittsburgh never led until 2B Jared Triolo hit an RBI single in the 12th.

LHP Jesus Luzardo started for the Marlins and allowed 2 H, 2 ER with 2 BB and 8 K in 5 IP. The Marlins scored 5 runs in the 1st 5 innings, but failed to score again and had only 1 hit after the 5th inning.

Pirates at Marlins projected starters

LHP Martín Pérez vs. LHP A.J. Puk

Perez (10-4, 4.45 ERA) made 20 starts and 15 relief appearances in 2023. He had a 1.40 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 5.9 K/9 in 141 2/3 IP as a member of the Texas Rangers.

  • 2023 road splits: 5-3, 5.18 ERA (73 IP, 42 ER), 26 BB, 43 K in 11 road starts, 18 total road appearances
  • 2023 vs. Miami: 0-0, 0.00 ERA (1 IP, 0 ER), 1 H, 1 K in 1 relief appearance, a 6-0 home win for the Rangers on Aug. 6
  • Career vs. Marlins: 1-1, 3.46 ERA (13 IP, 5 ER), 2 BB, 8 K through 2 starts and 1 relief appearance

Puk (7-5, 3.97 ERA) made 58 relief appearances in 2023. He had a 1.18 WHIP, 2.06 BB/9 and 12.4 K/9 in 56 2/3 IP.

  • 2023 home splits: 4-3, 5.29 ERA (31 1/3 IP, 19 ER), 9 BB, 51 K across 34 relief appearances
  • 2023 vs. Pirates: 1-1, 7.71 ERA (4 2/3 IP, 4 ER), 0 BB, 4 K in 4 relief appearances
  • Career vs. Pittsburgh: 8-6, 5.14 ERA (75 IP, 43 ER), 78 H, 97 K through 74 relief appearances

Pirates at Marlins picks and predictions

Prediction

Marlins 3, Pirates 2

Moneyline

BET MARLINS (-125).

Pittsburgh has not won back-to-back games in Miami since July of 2022, so I don’t expect the Pirates to pick up the win here. The favorite has also won 5 of the last 6 matchups between these squads.

This is a risky bet as it is hard for me to trust Puk, who is making his 1st career start after 142 games in relief, over a seasoned starting pitcher like Perez. However, Pittsburgh used a lot of its bullpen in Thursday’s win, so I like Miami to get the win here.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

I like Pittsburgh to cover here as a +1.5 (-200) road underdog, especially because I expect the Marlins to have trouble hitting against Perez and I have questions about Puk for Miami, but the Pirates are not worth the risk of betting on as such heavy favorites. Bet on the moneyline and/or total instead.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 8 (-115).

The Under has also hit in 5 of the last 7 Pittsburgh-Miami matchups overall and is 3-1 in the last 4 meetings in Miami. The Under is also 3-1 in Miami’s last 4 wins vs. Pittsburgh. For Miami, the Under is 5-1-1 in its last 7 dating back to last season.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Miami Marlins odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Pittsburgh Pirates at Miami Marlins odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins open their seasons with the 1st game of a 4-game set Thursday. First pitch from loanDepot park is slated for 4:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Pirates vs. Marlins odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Marlins won 5-2 last season

The Pirates finished 2023 with a record of 76-86, a 14-game improvement from 2022 and their best finish since 2018. There’s excitement in Pittsburgh around the return of SS Oneil Cruz to the lineup after missing almost all of 2023. They bolstered their rotation with the addition of veteran left-handers Martin Perez and Marco Gonzales.

BetMGM Sportsbook has their win total Over/Under set at 75.5, which will be a challenge in their division.

The Marlins behind new manager Skip Schumaker surprised the baseball world by finishing over .500 for the 1st time in 13 seasons in 2023. That led to Skip winning the 2023 NL Manager of the Year. Miami made the playoffs as a Wild Card team but lost to the Philadelphia Phillies.

BetMGM Sportsbook has their win total Over/Under set at 77.5, which begs the question: Can the Marlins take another step forward in 2024?

Pirates at Marlins projected starters

RHP Mitch Keller vs. LHP Jesus Luzardo

Keller (13-9, 4.21 ERA) made 32 starts in 2023. He had a 1.25 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 9.7 K/9 in 194 1/3 innings.

  • 2023 road stats: 6-6, 5.35 ERA (104 1/3 IP, 62 ER), .275 opponents’ batting average (OBA) in 18 starts
  • 2023 vs. Marlins: No-decision, 7 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 5 K in 1 start, a 6-4 road loss June 22, 2023
  • Career vs. Marlins: 1-0, 2.66 ERA (23 2/3 IP, 7 ER) in 5 starts

Luzardo (10-10, 3.58 ERA) made 32 starts in 2023. He had a 1.22 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 10.5 K/9 in 178 2/3 innings.

  • 2023 home stats: 5-4, 2.99 ERA (108 1/3 IP, 36 ER) in 19 starts
  • Career vs. Pirates: No-decision, 7 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 9 K in 1 start, a 3-1 home loss June 23, 2023

Pirates at Marlins picks and predictions

Prediction

Marlins 4, Pirates 2

Moneyline

PASS.

I like the Marlins (-135) to win on Opening Day, but I’d rather take the plus odds on the run line than eat the -135 juice on the moneyline.

Run line/Against the spread

BET MARLINS -1.5 (+155).

Luzardo owned the Pirates in his 1st outing against them last season, striking out 9 over 7 innings of work. Pittsburgh struggled against left-handed pitchers in 2023, batting just .243 as a team.

Miami was a really good team at home last season, finishing 11 games over .500 at loanDepot park.

Keller was also was far better at home than he was on the road.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 7.5 (-115).

These teams have gone under the total in 5 of their last 6 head-to-head matchups.

The Marlins finished 75-81-5 to the Over last season. That is due in large part to their stadium size. Only 167 home runs were hit at loanDepot park in 2023, the 5th-fewest in MLB.
