Kirk Herbstreit releases his updated top six rankings

ESPN College Football Analyst Kirk Herbstreit has updated his rankings of the top college football teams including Georgia, Florida and more

ESPN College Football Analyst Kirk Herbstreit has updated his rankings of the top college football teams who have played so far this season. His list excludes top teams like Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon and more because they haven’t played.

Herbstreit ranks his top six after the Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Auburn Tigers 27-6 in this week’s top match-up. The nightmare season for the Big 12 continued this Saturday. Texas lost to TCU for the seventh time in their last nine games. Oklahoma, a perennial contender, fell again for the second consecutive week.

UNC, Viriginia Tech, Clemson, Oklahoma State, and Florida all had big wins this past week.

Here’s who Kirk Herbstreit puts in his top six. He ranks the Georgia Bulldogs fourth (remember no Pac-12 or Big Ten).

It is hard to disagree with the top two teams in Herbstreit’s rankings. The Clemson Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide look to be on course for another College Football Playoff appearance. Alabama toppled Texas A&M in a dominant performance at home.

Interestingly, Kirk Herbstreit ranks the Florida Gators above the Georgia Bulldogs. Dawgs fans won’t be happy about this, especially after their impressive win over Auburn.

Miami and BYU round out Herbstreit’s rankings. BYU seems overrated considering who they have played. The Cougars won’t face a real test until they face Houston.

Georgia football recruiting offers 4-star OLB scholarship

The University of Georgia football program has also offered a scholarship to Travious Lathan

The Georgia Bulldogs are heating up on the recruiting trail. Kirby Smart and company recently got a commitment from a three-star wide receiver in Jackson Meeks.

The University of Georgia has also offered a scholarship to Travious Lathan. Lathan is a member of the class of 2022, so he’s currently a junior in high school at Gulliver Prep in Miami, Florida.

Lathan is a four-star outside linebacker, who has already received recruiting interest from Miami, Florida, Florida State, Oregon, Michigan, and more. The Gulliver Prep star is a versatile athlete, who can play safety as well as outside linebacker. Modern defenses covet versatility and fluid athleticism as much as any traits nowadays.

Can Georgia pull yet another talented recruit away from the Sunshine State? The past several recruiting classes, the typical in-state powerhouses in Florida (Miami, FSU, and Florida) have all struggled to keep the state’s best talent from leaving. Georgia, Alabama, and Clemson are among the top out of state schools at recruiting Florida.

Lathan announced his scholarship offer via his Twitter account:

Congratulations to Lathan and best of luck to him throughout his high school career. We’ll update you if he releases a list of top schools or makes a commitment.

5-star ATH James Williams makes college decision

5-star ATH James Williams, a Georgia and Miami recruit, makes college decision.

5-star athlete James Williams, the nation’s No. 9 overall player, has made his college decision.

The American Heritage (Plantation, Florida) football star has announced his commitment to Miami. Georgia was the runner-up.

Williams, likely a future defensive back, was expected to sign with Georgia. All 8 crystal ball predictions on his 247Sports player profile were in favor of the Bulldogs.

Williams ranks as the No. 9 player in America, No. 1 athlete and No. 1 player in Florida.

At 6 feet, 5 inches and nearly 220 pounds, Williams’ size (particularly his length) is rare for a defensive back. That speed and vision give the out-of-state standout the ability to quickly diagnose plays and react accordingly.

Georgia football makes final two for five-star prospect

Georgia football makes the final two for five-star prospect James Williams.

2021 5-star athlete James Williams has released his final two schools.

It’s down to Georgia and Miami for the nation’s No. 1 ranked athlete, who hails from Plantation, Florida and plays for powerhouse American Heritage.

Currently, according to 247Sports, Georgia is the favorite to land Williams, with nine expert predictions going in Kirby Smart and the Dawgs’ favor. He was once committed to Miami, but backed off that commitment a little over a year ago.

Williams ranks as the nation’s No. 10 overall recruit, No. 1 athlete and No. 1 player in the state of Florida.

At 6-foot-5 and nearly 220 pounds, Williams’ size (particularly his length) is rare for a defensive back. Smart, a former safety, and defensive backs coach Charlton Warren would have big plans for a player with the speed and vision necessary to play both strong and free safety combined with the size and physicality to play STAR.

That speed and vision give the out-of-state standout the ability to quickly diagnose plays and react accordingly. Whether he joins the Dawgs or the local Hurricanes, he is capable of making an immediate impact as a true freshman.

4-star WR Romello Brinson, a UGA recruiting target, makes decision

4-star WR Romello Brinson, who is a UGA recruiting target, made his college decision on Saturday night.

Georgia was in the running for 4-star wide receiver Romello Brinson out of Northwestern High School in Miami, Florida, but was unable to close it out.

Brinson announced he would be staying home attending the University of Miami on Saturday night.

Ranked as the nation’s No. 132 overall player and No. 25 wide receiver, Brinson picked the Hurricanes over Georgia and Texas A&M. Alabama and LSU were also in the running.

“It came down to it being easier for my family to get to the games and being closer to home,” Brinson said. “I’m staying home. This is a part of me.”

Georgia has had success recruiting Northwestern High School in recent years, with big name guys like Deandre Baker and James Cook both attending UGA after playing high school ball at Northwestern.

As for Georgia’s 2021 class, the Dawgs are still in good shape and currently hold the nation’s No. 16 ranked class.

Georgia football offers scholarship to Aaron Anderson

Saturday, Georgia football made its latest move in the 2022 recruiting class by offering a scholarship to WR Aaron Anderson.

Saturday, 2022 3-star WR Aaron Anderson announced on Twitter that he received a scholarship offer from the University of Georgia.

Anderson (5-10, 187) plays football and runs track at Edna Karr High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. As a sophomore in 2019, Anderson helped Edna Karr to its fourth-straight Louisiana 4-A state championship.

247Sports has Anderson rated as the No. 53 WR and the No. 15 player in Louisiana. He holds eight scholarship offers from programs like Miami, LSU, USC, Kentucky and now Georgia.

More statistics and rankings will be available after these younger guys play their junior seasons this fall.

Former Florida Gators 4-star signee makes transfer decision

Florida Gators offensive lineman Issiah Walker has made his transfer decision.

Offensive tackle Issiah Walker signed with Florida as a 4-star recruit in the most recent (2020) recruiting cycle, however, announced last week that he would be transferring before ever playing a game for the Gators.

On Saturday, Walker announced he will be transferring to Miami, staying in-state.

Walker played high school football at Norland in Miami, Florida. His transfer continues Florida’s trend of struggling to lock down top talent in the Sunshine State.

Whether or not Walker will be forced to sit-out the 2020 season is unknown. NCAA transfer rules state he will, but we’ve seen crazier things happen.

Florida fans may try to brush off another transfer, but the Gators losing another offensive lineman isn’t going to help them rush for more than 21 yards next time they face Georgia.

Georgia football offers scholarship to four-star 2021 Miami commit

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to four-star offensive guard Laurence Seymore, a 2021 Miami Hurricanes commitment.

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to Laurence Seymore, a 2021 Miami Hurricanes commitment. Kirby Smart and Matt Luke are showing interest in Seymore, who is a four-star offensive guard.

Seymore plays high school football at Miami Central High School. Georgia has already offered his high school teammate, who is a four-star running back, Amari Daniels. He’s been committed to Miami for almost two years now. Laurence Seymore’s original commitment to the Hurricanes came on March 31st, 2018.

That long commitment won’t stop the Dawgs from offering him a scholarship. Seymore was excited to receive an offer from the University of Georgia:

Seymore plays in a difficult division of high school football and will be battle tested when he heads off to college. Miami Central has produced numerous NFL players including Vikings RB Dalvin Cook, Cincinnati OG John Miller, and Atlanta RB Devonta Freeman.

Seymore is 6’1.5″, 290 lbs, so he doesn’t have ideal height. He may continue to grow as he is only a junior in high school.

There are two reasons why UGA has a decent shot at Seymore:

  1. The recent trend of elite Florida talent leaving the state for Georgia, Clemson, and Alabama.
  2. The vast amount of de-commitments Miami has received over the past couple recruiting classes.

We’ll keep you updated on his recruiting progress.
