Texas A&M baseball stays put in the D1Baseball’s rankings

D1Baseball drops their Week 1 ranking updates and there’s not much movement in the top ten

Texas A&M (3-0) remained perfect on the weekend sweeping McNeese and outscoring them 31-1 over the three days. The Aggies didn’t make any movement in the polls as most games went as planned. A&M showed how dangerous they are hitting from any position in the lineup and pitching was stellar through all three games.

D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers also noted how well the Aggies’ pitching fared after such a up-and-down season last year.

“I always caution everyone about Opening Weekend being Opening Weekend and all, but it’s hard not to take notice of Texas A&M’s pitching staff over the weekend. A&M lost former pitching coach Nate Yeskie to LSU during the offseason, and as a result, hired Mariners Minor League pitching coordinator Max Weiner. The Aggies, who finished last season with the 115th rated staff ERA, allowed just one run in three games against McNeese over the weekend. Lefty Ryan Prager, who made his debut in a return from an injury, struck out nine and allowed one hit in five innings, Justin Lamkin struck out six in 3.3 innings and Shane Sdao struck out five in five shutout frames. That’s a great start for a staff that struggled immensely last season. The one run allowed is the least number of runs allowed by an A&M staff in a weekend series since 1918. Yes, 1918.”

Texas A&M will host UIW at Blue Bell Park on February 20 at 4 p.m.  It can be watched on SEC Network +.

Highlights: Texas A&M completes the sweep of McNeese to start the season 3-0

Texas A&M goes 3-0 sweeping McNeese to open the season.

Texas A&M (3-0) left no doubt on Sunday afternoon and run-ruled McNeese 10-0 hitting the showers early after the seventh inning. The offense looked as advertised the majority of the weekend, but they still have some kinks to work out. They stranded way too many runners on base and probably could have put game three out of reach much earlier. Coach Jim Schlossnagle was pleased with it and is still working out the lineup.

“I thought guys got off to a good start for the most part offensively a couple guys didn’t but they’ll be fine we got to play a fair amount of guys and that’s a challenge with this team is getting everybody at bats to keep a smile on their face”
The story of the weekend was the pitching. Everyone expected the Aggies to score in bunches, but the big questions were that of insurance runs and catch-up runs. Coach Sclossnagle and pitching coach Max Weiner were able to get 10 pitchers into action and on 88 at bats they only allowed 14 hits, recording 36 strikeouts, and a single run through three games.
It’s early and they will come across better teams as the season goes along. However, if this is any indication of where they might be headed then a Super Regional will just be the beginning. Below you can find some of the best moments from the series sweep of McNeese.

Texas A&M baseball duo combine for 4 homers and 14 RBI after receiving final preseason honor

Before the Aggies swept McNeese State and outscored the Cowboys 31-1 this weekend, a duo of outfielders received a final preseason accolade.

Before the Texas A&M baseball team swept McNeese State and outscored the Cowboys 31-1 this past weekend, a duo of Aggies outfielders received a final preseason accolade.

On Friday afternoon, junior Braden Montgomery and sophomore Jace LaViolette were named to the Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award Watch List.

The Bragan Award is given annually to the player with the best performances, grades and integrity. The BBNCSA recipient will be announced in June and honored at a gala in the fall.

Both Texas A&M outfielders got off to a tremendous start to the season against McNeese State. In 11 at-bats, Montgomery had 4 hits, 5 runs batted in, 2 runs scored, 1 home run and 1 walk. LaViolette tore it up against the Cowboys. In 12 ABs, he tallied 2 runs, 4 hits, 9 RBI, 3 HR and 2 walks.

Safe to say, the Aggies are in good hands with this duo hitting at the top of the lineup.

Texas A&M baseball team accomplishes something that hasn’t been done in over a century

The Aggies officially began the season this weekend with a sweep of McNeese State, accomplishing something that hadn’t been done since 1918.

The Texas A&M baseball team officially began the 2024 season this weekend and it couldn’t have gotten off to a better start.

The Aggies (3-0) swept McNeese State at Blue Bell Park to kick off the campaign. Texas A&M outscored the Cowboys 31-1 over three games and accomplished history in the process.

According to Kyle Stafford of Texas A&M Athletics Communications, the pitching staff allowing only one run through the first three games is the fewest in program history since 1918. The Aggies won 15-0 on Friday, 6-1 on Saturday and 10-0 on Sunday.

Ryan Prager earned the season-opening win by pitching 5.0 innings, allowing 1 hit and 1 hit by pitch with 9 strikeouts. Isaac Morton and Brad Rudis each pitched 2.0 innings in relief.

Brock Peery took the win on Saturday after pitching 0.2 innings of relief without giving up a hit, walking one batter and striking out another. Justin Lamkin got the start and went 3.2 innings, allowing 2 hits, 2 walks and 2 HBPs with 6 Ks.

Evan Aschenback gave up the lone run of the weekend, pitching 2.2 innings in relief, allowing 3 hits with 4 punchouts. Zane Badmaev earned the save by pitching 2.0 innings in relief of Peery, giving up 1 hit and 1 walk with 3 Ks.

Shane Sdao started on the bump Sunday. He pitched 5.0 innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 walk with 5 strikeouts. Luke Jackson allowed 2 hits in 1.0 inning pitched. Peery (0.2 IP) and Josh Stewart (0.1 IP) each tallied 1 K in their respective appearances. The series finale ended after seven innings due to the run rule.

Texas A&M pulls away late to take game two over McNeese

Texas A&M comes away with a 6-1 victory over McNeese in game two on a windy day in Olsen Field

Texas A&M (2-0) had to work a little harder in the second game against McNeese (0-2), but a 6-1 victory secured a series win with a chance to sweep on Sunday.

A pitching duel between the teams had Olsen Field on edge compared to game one, where the Aggies scored early and often. The game remained scoreless through four innings before Texas A&M could finally get on the board after Evan Aschenbeck got the Aggies out of a bases-loaded situation at the top of the inning.

A&M started to catch up with McNeese pitcher Cameron LeJune in the bottom of the fifth inning, and with one out, Ryan Tragac was able to get in scoring position, hitting a double down the left-field line. Max Kaufer backdoored with an RBI double, bringing Tragac home for the game’s first score.

Pitching would take over again until the top of the seventh inning, with McNeese tying the game until transfer Brock Peery closed out the inning. That tie was short-lived with a bases-loaded walk scored by Blake Binderup, then a Braden Montgomery pop-up that should have been a routine out got caught in the wind, dropping it right behind a charging shortstop. That miscue scored two, but a Jace LaViolette score was reversed and was called out at home on a replay for the third out.

The Aggies added two more insurance runs in the eighth after speedster Travis Chesnut stole two bases to put himself in scoring position. Targac and Ali Camarillo both got hits, each bringing in a run to push the lead to 6-1. After walking the first batter in the top of the ninth, Zane Badmaev retired the next three batters for an A&M win.

  • Total offense:  8 hits, 6 runs
  • Pitching: Brock Peery W (1-0): 0.2 innings, 1 K, 8 pitches. Justin Lamkin: 3.2 innings, 6 Ks, 75 pitches. Evan Aschenbeck: 2.2 innings, 4 Ks, 33 pitches. Zane Badmaev S (1): 2.0 innings, 3 Ks, 33 pitches.

Texas A&M will return to Blue Bell Park for Game 3 against McNeese State on Sunday, starting at 1 p.m. CT. The Game will be available for streaming on SEC Network+.

Everything Coach Jim Schlossnagle had to say after big opening day win over McNeese State

Here’s what Texas A&M Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle had to say after opening win over McNeese State

The 2024 baseball season for No. 8 Texas A&M started off with a bang. Of their 17 hits, five were home runs, with three coming from preseason All-Americans Jace LaViolette and Braden Montgomery.

The 15-0 win was exactly what everyone wanted to see on the backs of hard-hitting and solid pitching. It’s just game one, but if they can have similar outings for the remainder of the weekend, there will be a lot of bubbles flowing this season.

Coach Jim Schlossnagle was pleased with his team but knows that anything can happen in baseball, but he is confident his squad will handle everything properly.

“Yeah you feel good about it’s good to get to you know these guys
feel good about it tonight I mean they know we talked plenty about how the game flips in a heartbeat so tomorrow’s going to be a completely different conditions. Cooler wind blowing really hard in uh so um I mean our guys are I trust our team they know
how to handle a win”

Below, you can watch the full post-game presser with Coach Schlossnagle.

See where Texas A&M falls in D1Baseball’s preseason field of 64

D1Baseball released their preseason field of 64 and the Aggie are set to host a regional

The who’s who in baseball publications all have the Texas A&M baseball team in the top 10 or right outside of it. D1baseball has them sitting in the eighth spot and hosting a regional as the ninth seed.

A&M would host Texas Tech as the 2 seed, USC as the third seed, and Binghamton as the fourth seed. It will be very interesting to see how these projections change throughout the season and if the Aggies dominate early, then their national seedwill improve.

Hitting talent will not be an issue for Coach Jim Schlossnagle’s team, but he is hoping that pitching can make the jump needed to be competitive in the post season. The first opportunity will get to see this team will be in their season-opening series against McNeese State in College Station.

How to watch, key players for No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners in the Cowgirl Challenge

The Sooners are back in action with a five game weekend slate and here is how you can watch each game.

The Oklahoma Sooners started their season undefeated, going 4-0 last week in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. They also remained the unanimous No. 1 team in the country after picking up a pair of top 10 wins.

This weekend, they have a five-game slate, including two days of double-headers. They will face Central Arkansas, McNeese State, and Lamar this weekend in Lake Charles, Lousiana.

Oklahoma’s weekend opponents have a combined record of 7-7, with McNeese State owning the best record of the bunch at 4-1. McNeese State was lost in the Seattle Regional final after eliminating Minnesota and taking game from host Washington. Central Arkansas has struggled to start the year but they were a tournament team just a season ago.

So, let’s take a look at how you can watch each game and see who are some of the key players for all five teams.

Good, Bad and Ugly: Gators Wire looks at Florida’s win over McNeese State

With a little time to let the win soak in, here are Gators Wire’s respective Good, Bad and Ugly takes from its staff.

Florida football took advantage of its opportunity to recalibrate on Saturday night against the McNeese State Cowboys the team’s home-opener for the 2023 campaign inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. While the Gators were not perfect, they cruised to a 49-7 victory that was almost a shutout if not for a fumble in the final minutes.

The Orange and Blue marched down the field for a touchdown on their first possession but the PAT snap flew over the holder’s head, representing the first of a few mistakes made. Florida’s defense locked down the rest of the game while the offense got on track — particularly on the ground where it logged 327 rushing yards, as well as 233 yards through the air.

Following the win, the Gators Wire crew assembled to give their respective takes on what we saw on Saturday night. Take a look at the Good, the Bad and the Ugly from Week 2 of the Gators’ 2023 season.
