2023 Buckeyes Wire Preseason All-Big Ten team: Offensive skill positions

Which Ohio State skill position football players made our prediction for the All-Big Team #GoBucks #B1G

The 2023 college football season is right around the corner and the Big Ten is loaded with top-notch talent and predicting who will end up on the All-Big Ten has proven challenging. Not only was it hard to choose one player over another, but it was also hard to admit that the Michigan Wolverines have a number of studs that will potentially wreak havoc on the rest of the conference.

This list is going to dive into the offensive skill position players and even though the Big Ten is typically known for their defense, there is a ton of firepower in the conference this season and that is especially true at the skill positions.

In the age of the transfer portal, it is possible for a complete dark horse to rise as a frontrunner, but we will do our best to provide the most educated guess based on previous performances and situations.

Marvin Harrison Jr. hopes to play in Indy for Big Ten Championship

Marvin Harrison Jr. revealed his goals for 2023, which includes playing in a game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is expected to be one of the top overall prospects in the 2024 NFL draft, and his goals for the upcoming season stem from watching his father play all those years with the Indianapolis Colts.

Harrison Jr. told Ohio State offensive coordinator and wide receiver Brian Hartline his biggest goal for the upcoming campaign, which includes ties to his father’s days as a star in the Circle City.

“I think for me, as a player, one moment I have yet to get to that I really want to is a Big Ten Championship, and play in Indy,” Marvin Harrison Jr. said via The Columbus Dispatch. “It would be a special moment, special game for me to go back there. I obviously watched my dad play so many times in that stadium, and to go there and play in Indy, that’s one of the goals. That’s probably the biggest goal I have this year.”

It would be a fun nod to see Harrison Jr. play in the city that his father dominated for 13 seasons. It would be even more fun to see him don the same uniform as his father after the 2024 NFL draft, but it remains to be seen if the Colts will have a chance to select him.

The rising junior had an impeccable breakout campaign during his sophomore season, proving to be the best wide receiver in the country. He recorded 77 receptions for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns in one of the best offenses in college football.

We’ll see what happens when the season is over, but there’s a chance Harrison Jr. is competing on the same field his father did when Lucas Oil Stadium opened in 2008.

247Sports has five Ohio State players selected in their latest 2024 NFL mock draft

Another mock draft, another handful of Buckeyes projected to be taken early #GoBucks

The 2023 college football season is still a few months away, but that hasn’t stopped many from projecting where [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] and other star prospects might land in the [autotag]NFL draft[/autotag].

There have been plenty of mock drafts dropped recently, some having a larger amount of Buckeyes selected, others not quite as many.

247Sports latest mock drafted up by Brad Crawford is in the middle, with five Buckeyes projected into the first round. Honestly, this is the best bet, especially considering where we are as the season approaches.

Find out below which Buckeyes were mocked by Crawford into the first round and what pick they were taken at while ignoring which team due to uncertainty of which team will pick where.

2024 Mock Draft: Cardinals, Bucs, Raiders, Packers look for new franchise quarterbacks

In Doug Farrar’s latest 2024 mock draft, the Cardinals, Buccaneers, Raiders, and Packers are in the market for new franchise quarterbacks.

May and June mark the “slow” part of the NFL year (don’t tell that to DeAndre Hopkins’ agent), which means that teams are now engaging in some summer scouting in between all the minicamp preparation and whatnot. This means, of course, that teams are already putting the work in on prospects for the 2024 NFL draft.

We’re doing the same at Touchdown Wire, and based on projected team needs and our own initial tape work, we thought it would be interesting to start up the inevitable 2024 mock drafts! In this case, the order of teams is set by Pro Football Focus’ Mock Draft Simulator, and we go from there.

And in this mock, we have four teams looking for new franchise quarterbacks in the first round. The Arizona Cardinals, who have the first two picks overall, are starting the process of moving on from Kyler Murray, which may or may not be an actual thing by the end of the upcoming season… but it could be. We also have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers looking to accentuate a quarterback room that currently consists of Baker Mayfield, Kyle Trask, and John Wolford, which kinda speaks for itself.

Also, the Las Vegas Raiders may well be tired of the Jimmy Garoppolo Experience after one year of it, and the Green Bay Packers may be in a situation where the Jordan Love succession plan didn’t go quite as everybody hoped.

So, here’s one version of how the first round of the 2024 NFL draft might go.

Todd McShay has six Ohio State players projected in his way-too-early 2024 NFL mock draft

Todd McShay believes the first round of the NFL draft might be an infomercial for Ohio State football next year. #GoBucks

It’s no secret the Ohio State football team has a load of offensive talent on its roster, but there is also an expected improvement coming on the defensive side of the ball that showed itself even in the spring. A lot of that skill is with some of the sophomores like Marvin Harrison Jr. and TreVeyon Henderson, but there are also some more traditional four-year players that could break out this year.

So much so that many of the very early NFL mock drafts have a bushel of Ohio State players potentially landing in the first round of the draft in April of next year. And while anyone with a keyboard can project what happens next year in that annual spectacle, when someone like ESPN’s Todd McShay says as much, well, it’s worth noting.

McShay released his way-too-early 2024 NFL mock draft (subscription required) and has six — yes six! — Buckeyes going off the board in the first round in Detroit. Here is a look at all six OSU players McShay projects, where they might land and why.

2024 NFL draft prospect Marvin Harrison Jr. compared to A.J. Green

NFL draft prospect Marvin Harrison Jr. compared to a Bengals great.

The 2023 NFL draft has come and gone and with it went some elite wide receiver prospects.

Next year, Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. will likely be one of the receivers available, and he is getting some pretty good comparisons.

Jordan Reid of ESPN compared Harrison to Cincinnati Bengals legend A.J. Green on Twitter.

“Marvin Harrison Jr. = A.J. Green,” Reid said. “It’s a comparison that should be used a lot. Identical frame, skill set, A+ body control and poise at the catch point. Elite hand-eye coordination.”

Harrison showed off his “A+ body control” with an unbelievable catch on the sideline in a game against Indiana last season, and has earned the early comparisons, but another year will need to go by before he gets the chance to prove it at the NFL level.

Without extensions for Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd in the last season of his contract, the Bengals will likely be keeping their eyes on Harrison at the very least.

On3 ranks Ohio State as the top wide receiver unit in college football

I mean, it’s really no surprise here, right? #GoBucks

On3’s Jesse Simonton started releasing his position group rankings for next season last week.

Given the strength of the Buckeyes’ wide receiver room, it comes as no surprise that they come in at number one on this list. With Jaxon Smith-Njigba out with a hamstring injury for most of last season, Ohio State returns their top six leaders in receiving yards.

The headliner of the unit is Marvin Harrison Jr. who is the consensus top wide receiver in all of college football. Harrison Jr.’s talent was apparent in his true freshman season and last season he broke out leading the team in catches (77), receiving yards (1,263), and receiving touchdowns (14).

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

The expectations for Harrison Jr. this season are sky-high as he will be an integral part of the Buckeyes offense and could even be a dark horse Heisman contender.

One of college football’s best receivers last season also returns with big expectations for this season. Emeka Egbuka is perhaps a bit under shadowed because he plays alongside Harrison Jr., but he was an integral part of the offense last season and will be this season as well.

Harrison Jr. and Egbuka are the clear top two target leaders in the offense and that third receiver option is also likely locked down as well.

Julian Fleming was third on the team in receiving yards with 533 yards in last season. The former five-star from the 2020 class would likely be the top receiver on many teams across college football.

Jayden Ballard is another good option as he could provide more of a deep-threat element to the offense.  Ballard showed out with a good performance at the Spring Game including a one-handed catch.

Returning for his sixth season with the Buckeyes will be Xavier Johnson. He has shown consistently that he can step up when he’s called upon as he caught two big touchdowns last season including a third-down strike over the middle against Notre Dame to give Ohio State the lead late in the third quarter.

The Buckeyes also bring in a very talented group of freshmen receivers.  Carnell Tate, Noah Rogers, and Brandon Inniss all were top ten ranked wide receivers in the 2023 class.

While they may not make a major impact this season, they will be important factors in the offense very soon.

Way-Too-Early 2024 NFL mock draft features three Alabama stars

Alabama football expected to dominate 2024 NFL draft

The 2023 NFL draft just wrapped up in the past few weeks and the incoming rookies are still months away from their first NFL action, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look ahead to the 2024 draft. Granted we are a year away, but the 2024 draft is already viewed as one of the strongest drafts in recent memories with guys like Marvin Harrison Jr. of Ohio State and Caleb Williams of USC headlining the class.

As they are every year, Alabama football will be heavy players in the first round according to PFF’s way-too-early 2024 mock draft. PFF currently projects three Crimson Tide players to be selected in the first round.

The first Alabama player off the board will be Kool-Aid McKinstry at No. 7 overall to the Los Angeles Rams saying, “As of now, this would be the first first-round pick the Rams have had since selecting Jared Goff No. 1 in 2016. After trading away Jalen Ramsey, the Rams need to find their next No. 1 corner. McKinstry can fill that role. He was a first-team All-American for PFF this past season, and his 18 forced incompletions tied for second among all corners in the country. He also led all Power Five players with 332 punt return yards.”

Their second projection is that the New England Patriots will help protect Mac Jones and bolster their offensive line by selecting JC Latham at No. 12 overall. They defend this projection by saying, “Latham was an elite pass-protector at right tackle for Alabama this past season as a sophomore. He earned an 84.5 pass-blocking grade on true pass sets, fourth among all tackles in the country. On 486 pass-blocking snaps, he only allowed one hit and didn’t give up a sack.”

Their final projection is that the Chicago Bears will take elite edge rusher Dallas Turner off the board with the No. 14 overall selection. PFF goes on to add, “The Bears took two interior defensive linemen on Day 2, now they need to find some juice along the edge. Turner has been overshadowed by Will Anderson Jr. for the last two years, but he’s a star in his own right. Since 2021, Turner’s 14 sacks are tied for the second-most among returning Power Five edge defenders.”

Even though there are only three players listed right now, don’t be surprised if a few other guys play themselves into first round picks like Jahmyr Gibbs and Jameson Williams have in recent years.

Post-spring edition: Ranking the top 30 pass-catchers in the Big Ten heading into 2023

There are some excellent players in the conference!

We have been doing different rankings inside of the Big Ten. We have ranked the coaches in the conference, the projected starting quarterbacks, and most recently we ranked the 20-best running backs in the Big Ten — you can find all three stories below.

But now it’s time to debate the top pass-catchers in the Big Ten.

For this exercise, we are going to rank the 30-best in the conference and it’s a mixture between tight ends and wide receivers. To try and give more teams a chance to have players on this list, our only rule is that one team can only have three players ranked on the list.

Here are the best 30 pass-catchers in the Big Ten.

Full list of Eagles’ 2024 NFL draft picks with projected compensatory selections

We’re looking at the Philadelphia Eagles’ complete order of 2024 NFL draft picks with compensatory projections.

The Eagles made several critical signings during the 2023 NFL free agency process, with all of the additions being one-year deals.

Philadelphia GM Howie Roseman watched ten contributors leave on the open market.

Thanks to his shrewd maneuvering and roster building, the Eagles are in line for four valuable compensatory picks in 2024, according to NFL.com draft expert, Lance Zierlein.

The Eagles played the compensatory pick game perfectly. They knew they would have a large number of players depart in free agency, and they didn’t add any projected qualifying free agents to the team. Philadelphia should receive the maximum number of picks, including a third-rounder for Hargrave.

The Birds were slated to have six picks in the 2024 NFL draft, but thanks to the compensatory formula, they’ll have 10.

Here’s an early look at the Eagles’ 2024 NFL draft picks.
