Early signing period: Marcus Goree Jr. signs with Tennessee football

The 2023 early signing period is taking place Wednesday-Friday for Tennessee’s 2024 recruiting signing class.

The 2023 early signing period is Josh Heupel’s third as Tennessee’s head coach. He was hired as the Vols’ head coach in Jan. 2021.

Tennessee’s 2023 recruiting class ranked No. 10 nationally (247Sports Composite). The Vols’ first recruiting class under Heupel in 2022 ranked No. 17 nationally (247Sports Composite).

Marcus Goree Jr. signed with the Vols on Wednesday during the early signing period.

On3 released updated On300 rankings for top 300 prospects in the class of 2024 on Monday.

Tennessee has eight 2024 commitments ranked among top 300 prospects: Cornerback Kaleb Beasley, wide receiver Braylon Staley, tight end Jonathan Echols, quarterback Jake Merklinger, running back Peyton Lewis, offensive lineman Max Anderson, safety Marcus Goree and defensive lineman Jeremias Heard.

The Vols have 16 2024 commits, including four-star offensive lineman William Satterwhite. Satterwhite was the first commitment in July for the Vols.

Tennessee has five 2024 commits who were ranked among the top-300 prospects. Wide receiver JJ Harrell, quarterback Jake Merklinger, tight end Jonathan Echols, cornerback Kaleb Beasley and safety Marcus Goree all received top-300 rankings.

The Vols have nine 2024 commits, including three-star safety Edrees Farooq. Farooq committed to Tennessee on Sunday following the Orange & White Game.

Over the weekend, Bradley Central (Tenn.) defensive back Marcus Goree announced his commitment to the Tennessee Vols. Goree announced the news himself by sharing a home-sweet-home message on his Twitter page.

According to the composite rankings, Goree (6-foot-1, 170 pounds) is No. 60 among Athletes and 10th overall in Tennessee.

Here’s a look at some of his top plays from high school.

Goree had offers from 13 other schools, according to On3. Other serious contenders for his commitment included Louisville, Mississippi State, Notre Dame and Nebraska.

That makes four members for Tennessee’s class of 2024, which ranks No. 15 in the country.

Tennessee makes top-five for 3-star Marcus Goree

Tennessee is one of five schools for 3-star Marcus Goree. Goree was a Tennessee All-State selection last season.

Three-star athlete Marcus Goree announced his top-five schools on Thursday.

Tennessee, Michigan, Nebraska, Colorado and Michigan State are Goree’s top-five schools.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound athlete is from Bradley Central High School in Cleveland, Tennessee.

Goree is the No. 479 overall prospect in the class of 2024. He ranks as the No. 38 athlete and No. 11 player in the state of Tennessee, according to the On3 Sports consensus.

As a junior in 2022, Goree finished the season with 54 total tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 11 pass breakups and two interceptions. He earned 6A All-State honors this season.

Goree visited Tennessee on Jan. 14 for junior day. He unofficially visited on Oct. 15 as the Vols defeated Alabama, 52-49.
