Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton on rooming with Jayden Daniels at Manning Passing Academy

There’s a clear mutual respect between Jayden Daniels and Joe Milton, who are arguably the league’s two best quarterbacks.

The Manning Passing Academy is an incredible opportunity for some of the nation’s top college football quarterbacks to hone their schools while being around other great competitors.

In the case of LSU quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag], who was in attendance earlier this summer in Thibodeaux, Louisiana, he was ultimately paired up with another starting SEC quarterback in Tennnessee’s Joe Milton as a roommate.

Milton comes in looking to fulfill an unorthodox career arc. A transfer from Michigan, Milton entered the 2021 season as the Volunteers’ starting quarterback but was ultimately supplanted by Hendon Hooker.

Following Hooker’s torn ACL, Milton impressed down the stretch and enters the 2023 season as a starter once again.

LSU and Tennessee faced last year in what was an ugly loss for the Tigers at home. Though Milton didn’t start that game, he said that it was one of the topics he and Daniels discussed.

“It was great,” Milton said about rooming with Daniels. “Our first conversation was talking about the LSU game when we played against them. And we both were just talking about how crazy it was. The experience level of the fans, just the commodity about it, the whole process of the game. But it was great.

“You get to pick a few guy brains, and I got to pick his brain a little bit; talk about coverages. Talk about different types of footwork, about things we both can work on. As you see it from a different quarterback, what can you work on? And, you know, it was great.”

Last month, Milton also referred to both Daniels and [autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag], who was also in attendance, as “great.”

Asked about Milton at SEC media days last week, Daniels also had praise to offer.

“His arm strength is ridiculous,” Daniels said. “That’s what stands out the most. How much zip he has on the ball and his velocity, a very strong arm. Tennessee, he waited after Hendon, he was a great player and a great quarterback.”

Daniels and Milton are seen as potentially the two best quarterbacks in the SEC, with the former earning preseason First Team honors from the media while the latter made the Third Team.

Though they’ll only face on the field in a possible SEC Championship matchup this year, it’s clear they have mutual respect for each other.

Peyton Manning has an illustrative anecdote about Saints QB Derek Carr

Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning has an illustrative anecdote about Saints passer Derek Carr, sharing his excitement on Carr’s ‘second chapter’ in the NFL:

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

It’s not every day you get to hear from a Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, so when Peyton Manning steps in front of reporters it’s wise to listen. Local media had an opportunity to interview the two-time Super Bowl champ, who would have won three titles if the New Orleans Saints hadn’t taken him down in Super Bowl XLIV, at last week’s Manning Passing Academy.

And some of the questions centered on Saints quarterback Derek Carr, a fit Manning described as “a great marriage.” Manning recalled a conversation with Carr at Raiders training camp that made a strong impression on the Hall of Famer. Carr’s first question centered on a play he witnessed when his older brother David dueled Manning more than a decade earlier.

“We had this game against Houston where I had a play-action where the backside linebacker blitzed and hit me in the back. That was on me,” Manning recounted. “I should have known he was unblocked. And Derek said, ‘Oh, I remember that play. It was on the right hash. It was going in about the 25-yard line, going toward Houston’s locker room.’ I thought, ‘Why would he remember that?’ I remember that. But it tells you he’s got a special memory. He’s got great recall, which I think’s a good sign for a quarterback. He had some good questions for me.”

Manning went on to say that he’s made himself available to Carr as a resource, whether that’s taking him out to his first steak dinner in New Orleans, sharing input on the process of settling in with a new team, or offering advice on how to connect with the community. Manning added, “I get excited for these quarterbacks when they have a chance for a second chapter. It’s rejuvenating for him.”

That’s an experience Manning knows well — he finished the second leg of his pro career with the Denver Broncos, where he eventually won his long-awaited second Super Bowl ring. Maybe Carr has what it takes to bring the Saints their second title now that he’s entering that second chapter of his own.

Best tweets from 2023 Manning Passing Academy

Another successful camp in the books for the Manning Passing Academy.

The 2023 Manning Passing Academy took place over the weekend at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La.

The camp, led by Archie Manning and his three sons, Peyton, Cooper and Eli, had its share of talent showing off its arm talent. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton and heir to the Manning throne, Arch Manning, participated in the Manning family’s annual passing camp.

Peyton Manning: ‘I certainly was all in’ on Sean Payton for Broncos job

Peyton Manning says ‘I certainly was all in’ on Sean Payton for Broncos job, sees similar ‘committed organization’ to Saints in Denver:

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

This is kind of what you’d expect him to say, but it still stands out when you hear it in his voice and see it spelled out in print. Peyton Manning wasn’t just happy to find out Sean Payton was taking the Denver Broncos head coaching job — he advocated for the former New Orleans Saints coach to win it.

Manning fielded questions from reporters at last week’s Manning Passing Academy, where he joked that he “might have known a little bit what was going on” given his connections with ownership groups around the league. The Hall of Fame quarterback won his first Super Bowl with the Indianapolis Colts and sealed a second championship with the Broncos, and his word still weighs a lot in both cities, even with changes in ownership and a new general manager in Denver.

Manning shared his experience in the middle of it all, which started when Payton joined Manning and his brothers for a golf trip last summer after stepping down as Saints head coach.

“I certainly was all in on Sean,” Manning said. “I could tell he wanted to get back in it. I could tell he was looking for a committed organization that gave him the great support that he got here in New Orleans from the Benson family. I think he definitely found that with the Broncos’ new ownership. They’re going to give him what he needs and what he wants.”

Manning added that Payton is a coach who knows exactly what he wants. He used examples like his preference at left guard (where the Broncos invested a four-year, $52 million contract in former Baltimore Ravens starter Ben Powers) and at tight end (where Payton traded with the Saints to bring in Adam Trautman, one of his former draft picks). As was the case in New Orleans, the decision-makers in Denver are making an effort to keep Payton happy. Manning’s lobbying might have helped a little, but it shouldn’t be a surprise that Payton wound up in Broncos country after all.

‘Looks a lot like me’: UCF QB John Rhys Plumlee models himself after former Saints QB

‘Looks a lot like me’: UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee models himself after a legendary former Saints signal-caller | @crissy_froyd

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee didn’t see much time at Ole Miss at the designated position, but he’s caught attention for playing just that at UCF and could be a quick riser. Plumlee finished out the 2022 season with a 63% completion rate, 2,586 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also carried the ball 159 times for 862 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The athletic quarterback is one of the most electric to watch at the position in the nation happens to model himself after one of the best former New Orleans Saints signal-callers, and one of the best to ever take a football field in history.

That’s Drew Brees.

“You like to take a couple different things from every guy, I really like the way that (Patrick) Mahomes plays and (Josh) Allen too, their ability to throw the ball. Aaron Rodgers has unbelievable arm talent. But I really grew up watching Brett Favre, Drew Brees, those guys,” Plumlee said when I asked him about who he models himself after when I met with him at the Manning Passing Academy.

Plumlee continued, “Drew (Brees) looks a lot like me. Maybe not 6-foot-4, but taking every throw and being really accurate as well. Favre being from Mississippi, I’m a Mississippi guy and I love watching him and the grit he had playing and the way that he came about and played the game was fun to watch for me.”

How he continues to progress as a one-of-a-kind player will be something to watch, and he’s looking forward to putting his passing ability on display in a big way this year.

“Last year, I was so beat up and it affected us unbelievably,” Plumlee reflected. “I ran the ball a ton and I’m looking forward to this year, personal goal-wise, to really stretch the field vertically and I think people know what I can do with my feet. But I really want to put on display what I can do with my arm.”

Eli Manning not worried about Arch Manning’s spring game showing

Eli Manning still has high praise and kind words for Arch.

The entire offseason for Texas was dictated by one narrative and one narrative only, five-star Arch Manning would come in and take the job from Quinn Ewers. Continue reading “Eli Manning not worried about Arch Manning’s spring game showing”

Quinn Ewers among standouts at the Manning Passing Academy

Quinn Ewers continues to dominate the offseason.

The 2023 Manning Passing Academy is taking place at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Quarterbacks of the future look to develop their skills and become better signal callers.

While being able to learn from anyone with the last name of Manning is a great opportunity, the youngsters also have a chance to be mentored by a college quarterback. Some of college football’s best signal callers are helping out with the campers, but they also get to compete as well.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is one of the college attendees. According to a report by On3, Ewers has been shining. The Texas quarterback was reportedly exuding the confidence we saw from him early in the 2022 season.

Remember the confident quarterback who had Alabama’s defense on its heels before he exited the game with an injury? That’s the Ewers that showed up to Friday evening’s quarterback competition in South Louisiana. Ewers throws an effortless ball and showed the ability to hit on a variety of passes. Texas fans are excited for the future in five-star signee Arch Manning, but with Manning’s father Cooper on the microphone for Friday night’s skills competition, the praise for Ewers came early and often. Ewers is the present in Austin, and the upside is clear.

Arch Manning, who was an early enrollee and five-star that Texas landed in the 2023 class, is also in attendance. Manning didn’t take part in Friday’s festivities. Ewers was named a standout with other major names such as Drake Maye (North Carolina), Joe Milton (Tennessee) and Michael Penix Jr. (Washington).

With all of these rave reviews about Ewers, Texas fans are continuing to see their hopes and expectations skyrocket.

2 LSU quarterbacks set to attend Manning Passing Academy

Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier will see if they can pick up some tricks from the Mannings that can help the Tigers this fall.

The Manning Passing Academy is one of the premier football camps in the country. Quarterbacks from all across the nation travel to learn more about how to be a great quarterback from the First Family of football.

The next Passing Academy happens at Nicholls State University from June 22-25, and it will feature two of LSU’s quarterbacks. [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and [autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag] will see if they can pick up some tricks from the Mannings that can help the Tigers this fall.

Daniels transferred to LSU last year after spending three seasons at Arizona State. He was looking to reclaim the magic he found in his freshman season for the Sun Devils, and he did exactly that. He threw for 2,913 yards, 17 touchdowns and three interceptions in his first season on the Bayou.

Nussmeier is a gunslinger that is a perfect example of having one in the chamber. If anything happens to Daniels, [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] is very confident that the offense can still thrive with Nussmeier calling the shots.

Drew Allar heading to Manning Passing Academy

Penn State QB Drew Allar will be working at this year’s Manning Passing Academy

Penn State’s expected starting quarterback will be heading to what is viewed as the nation’s top football camp later this month. Drew Allar, a sophomore from Ohio, was revealed to be one of the college counselors for this year’s Manning Passing Academy in Louisiana.

The Manning Passing Academy is recognized as one of the top football camps for quarterbacks as it is directed by the Manning family, including Penn State Chad Powers, otherwise known as Eli Manning. Archie Manning, Peyton Manning, and Cooper Manning also are involved.

Allar is the latest Penn State quarterback to work at the football camp. Sean Clifford and former Penn State quarterback Will Levis worked last year’s camp. Many of the nation’s top college quarterbacks regularly work at the camp as well, and more players attending this year’s camp will be announced leading up to the start of the camp later this month.

This will be a great opportunity for Allar to rub elbows with not only the top quarterbacks in the nation, but also pick up some pointers from the Mannings. Allar will also get to compete in a skills competition with his college peers.
