The Manning Passing Academy is an incredible opportunity for some of the nation’s top college football quarterbacks to hone their schools while being around other great competitors.
In the case of LSU quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag], who was in attendance earlier this summer in Thibodeaux, Louisiana, he was ultimately paired up with another starting SEC quarterback in Tennnessee’s Joe Milton as a roommate.
Milton comes in looking to fulfill an unorthodox career arc. A transfer from Michigan, Milton entered the 2021 season as the Volunteers’ starting quarterback but was ultimately supplanted by Hendon Hooker.
Following Hooker’s torn ACL, Milton impressed down the stretch and enters the 2023 season as a starter once again.
LSU and Tennessee faced last year in what was an ugly loss for the Tigers at home. Though Milton didn’t start that game, he said that it was one of the topics he and Daniels discussed.
“It was great,” Milton said about rooming with Daniels. “Our first conversation was talking about the LSU game when we played against them. And we both were just talking about how crazy it was. The experience level of the fans, just the commodity about it, the whole process of the game. But it was great.
“You get to pick a few guy brains, and I got to pick his brain a little bit; talk about coverages. Talk about different types of footwork, about things we both can work on. As you see it from a different quarterback, what can you work on? And, you know, it was great.”
Last month, Milton also referred to both Daniels and [autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag], who was also in attendance, as “great.”
Asked about Milton at SEC media days last week, Daniels also had praise to offer.
“His arm strength is ridiculous,” Daniels said. “That’s what stands out the most. How much zip he has on the ball and his velocity, a very strong arm. Tennessee, he waited after Hendon, he was a great player and a great quarterback.”
Daniels and Milton are seen as potentially the two best quarterbacks in the SEC, with the former earning preseason First Team honors from the media while the latter made the Third Team.
Though they’ll only face on the field in a possible SEC Championship matchup this year, it’s clear they have mutual respect for each other.
