Magic at Grizzlies: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 9:15 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Magic 112, Grizzlies 107

Moneyline (ML)

The MAGIC (+125) are the value play in this one. These teams met back on Nov. 8 with Orlando winning by a 118-86 score. The Grizzlies (-150) look for revenge, but both teams have been hot lately, and the better value is taking Orlando at plus-money.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Magic returns a profit of $12.50 if they win. A $10 bet on the Grizzlies returns a profit of $6.70.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The MAGIC (+2.5, -106) give you a little bit of insurance if you’re feeling the Grizzlies (-2.5, -115) are going to win by a narrow margin. Orlando has covered in six straight games, and seven of the past eight games overall. The Magic are also 4-0 in their past four games as an underdog. The Grizzlies are also hot against the number, going 6-1 ATS in their past seven at home, but remember the November meeting.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total (220.5) is a risky play in this one, as the trends are skewed heavily in opposite directions. For instance, the Over is 12-3-1 in Orlando’s past 16, and 5-0 in its past five as an underdog while going 11-0-1 in the past 12 following a cover. The Under is 11-0 in the past 11 home games for Memphis, while going 6-0 in its past six overall and 5-1 in the past six as a favorite. The best course of action is to AVOID.

Orlando Magic at Miami Heat odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Orlando Magic at Miami Heat sports betting odds and lines, with NBA betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Orlando Magic (27-34) visit the Miami Heat (39-22) Wednesday at AmericanAirlines Arena for a 7:30 p.m. ET tip-off. We analyze the Magic-Heat odds and lines, with NBA betting advice and tips around the matchup.

The Magic have lost two in a row, falling to the Portland Trail Blazers at home Monday by a 130-107 score. The Heat own a three-game win streak, recently making a statement by beating the Milwaukee Bucks 105-89 as a 5-point home dog – it was just Milwaukee’s ninth loss of the season.

This is the final game of the season series, which the Heat lead 2-1. They dropped a 105-85 affair at the Magic Jan. 3 before winning 113-92 at home Jan. 27 and 102-89 on the road Feb. 1.

Magic at Heat: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 11 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Heat 107, Magic 96

Moneyline (ML)

AVOID. The Heat (-304) are one of the league’s best home teams, going 26-4, but the price is way too high. Every $3.04 wagered on the Heat ML profits only $1 if they win. The Magic (+240) offer a 2.4-to-1 payoff if they win, but Miami is just too good on its home floor this season. PASS and focus on the spread and total.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

A slight lean to the HEAT (-7.5, –106) – even if Gordon plays for the Magic (+7.5, -115). With their impressive straight-up home record, it’s no surprise the Heat are the league’s best home team ATS at 20-9-1. They’re also 17-8-1 ATS as a home favorite. The Magic are 5-2 ATS in their last seven trips to South Beach, otherwise, they’re just above .500 ATS on the road overall at 16-13-1 this season.

New to sports betting? Every $1.06 wagered on the Heat’s spread will profit $1 if they win by 8 or more points.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 218.5 (-106) is the STRONGEST PLAY. Orlando has played to eight Overs in a row – allowing an average of 120.3 points per game – and coach Steve Clifford isn’t happy. He stressed “defense” at Tuesday’s practice, and I’m banking on the players to respond.

For the season, the Magic rank third in points allowed at 106.9 PPG, so they obviously can do it. Plus, the Under is 4-0 in the last four head-to-head meetings AND eight of the last 10 games haven’t reached 207 points.

The Orlando Magic (27-32) travel to meet the San Antonio Spurs (24-33) at AT&T Center in San Antonio at 8:30 p.m. ET Saturday. We analyze the Magic-Spurs sports betting odds and lines, with NBA betting advice and tips around the matchup.

Magic at Spurs: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated Saturday at noon ET.

Prediction

Spurs 116, Magic 111

Moneyline (ML)

The SPURS (-167) are the play here, as the Magic (+140) have a tough turnaround playing in Texas last than 24 hours after a 136-125 victory in O-Town against the Timberwolves. Orlando is 4-5 straight up in the past nine on the road, with two of those wins against lowly Charlotte. The Magic are also 0-6 SU in the past six in the second end of a back-to-back.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Spurs ML returns a profit of just $5.99 if they win.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Take the SPURS (-3.5, -110) on their home floor, mainly due to the failures of the Magic (+3.5, -110) in back-to-back situations. Not only have they dropped six in a row SU in the second end of back-to-backs, they’re 0-5-1 ATS in those six outings.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 220.5 (-110) is the play in this one, as both sides have hit the over frequently. The over is a perfect 6-0 in Orlando’s past six, and 4-0-1 in their past five on the road. The Magic’s legs should be plenty tired, especially on the defensive end, after a high-scoring game at home and overnight travel. The under is 5-1 in San Antonio’s past six at home, but the over is 5-2-1 in their past eight overall, and 14-6 in the past 20 as a home favorite.

Timberwolves at Magic: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 12:10 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Magic 119, Timberwolves 116

Moneyline (ML)

The Timberwolves +260 ended a five-game losing streak by pulling off a surprising road upset to an 11.5-point favored Miami Heat 129-126 Wednesday. Newcomers G Malik Beasley and G D’Angelo Russell combined for 48 points in the win. Beasley has 21+ points in five of the seven games he’s played for Minnesota since joining the team in a trade deadline deal, and Russell has scored 22+ in four of his five games since joining the Timberwolves.

The Magic -334 have played well lately, winning four of their last five games, including a 130-120 win at the Atlanta Hawks Wednesday. Orlando is an absolute NO-GO for a moneyline wager as its value is awful, but you could certainly take a flyer on Minnesota because +260 is a juicy number against a sub .500 Magic team. Officially though, I’ll PASS.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Both are better ATS road teams than at home. The TIMBERWOLVES +7.5 (-110) are 14-14-1 ATS on the road, while the Magic -7.5 (-110) are 10-18-1 ATS at home. Minnesota is 2-7 ATS in the last nine meetings at Orlando and is 5-16 ATS in the last 21 meetings, however, the two teams haven’t played yet this season. The Timberwolves have covered two of their past three games and, with both new guards healthy, they’ll keep this game close. The final differentiator in my handicap is their non-conference ATS records. Minnesota is 10-11-1 ATS against teams in the East and Orlando is an NBA-worst 7-13-2 ATS against Western Conference opponents. Bet TIMBERWOLVES +7.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

Minnesota consistently goes Over projected totals (33-24 O/U record) and Orlando tends to go Under (26-29-3 O/U). But their combined O/U record in non-conference games is 28-15-1, and the Timberwolves have the highest percentage of Overs in the league when playing Eastern Conference foes. Also, as an away underdog the Timberwolves have a 15-9 O/U record, clearing the projected total by an average of 8.1 points per game. Take the OVER 233.5 (-110).

Dallas Mavericks at Orlando Magic odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s Dallas Mavericks at Orlando Magic sports betting odds and lines, with NBA betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Dallas Mavericks (33-22) visit the Orlando Magic (24-31) Friday at the Amway Center for a 7 p.m. ET tip-off. We analyze the Mavericks-Magic odds and lines, with NBA betting advice and tips around the matchup as both teams will play their first game since the All-Star break.

The Mavericks took the first regular-season, head-to-head meeting 107-106 early in the season, Nov. 6 in Dallas. SG Luka Doncic led seven Mavericks in double-figures with a game-high 27 points in the win.

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 7:30 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Mavericks 116, Magic 109

Moneyline (ML)

PASS. The Mavericks (-176) are one of the league’s best road teams, posting a 17-8 record – plus, they’re 1-0 on a neutral floor. The Magic (+145) are just two games over .500 at home at 15-13. I like Dallas here, but I’m going to PASS and back the spread below.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The MAVERICKS (-3.5, –115) are the STRONGEST PLAY despite the fact that the home team has won the last 10 in this series. Doncic (28.9 PPG, 9.5 RPG) and Co. are an impressive 9-3-1 ATS as a road favorite this season, while the Magic (+3.5, -106) are 2-8-1 as a home ‘dog.

New to sports betting? Every $1.15 wagered on the Mavs spread will profit $1 if they win by four or more points.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 218.5 (-115) is the play. The Mavericks, who rank third in scoring at 116.4 PPG, own the NBA’s top O/U record at 35-20. They played six Overs in a row heading into All-Star Weekend. However, the Magic rank 29th in scoring at 103.9 PPG and feature the league’s No. 1 defense, holding opponents to 105.4 PPG. But I like the OVER here as both teams will be well-rested coming out of the break.

Every $1.15 wagered on the Over will profit $1 if both teams combine for 219 points or more.

Report: Kemba Walker, Marcus Smart and Daniel Theis out against Magic

Three key Boston Celtics players will be sitting out due to injury Wednesday against the Orlando Magic.

The Boston Celtics have been in a groove, winning their past four games. But on Wednesday, that streak might be hard to maintain with some key players out.

Per the Celtics’ Twitter account, Kemba Walker (knee), Marcus Smart (quad) and Daniel Theis (ankle) all will be out for the team’s game against the Orlando Magic. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. EST.

According to NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg, Celtics coach Brad Stevens does not expect the team to have any “major activity” at the deadline, which is set for Thursday at 3 p.m.

Walker has missed the past two games with knee soreness. In the six games prior to missing time, Walker was averaging 21.5 points and 5.7 assists. A four-time All-Star, Walker has been important for the Celtics’ success, being the team’s leading scorer and leading the team in assists.

As one of the best wing defenders in the league, Smart’s presence will be missed on the perimeter, especially against players such as Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier. An athletic forward, Gordon is able to take players off the dribble, and Fournier is one of the Magic’s best shooters, hitting at a 39.6% clip from deep.

A third-year big man, Theis is having the best season of his career to date, averaging a career-high 8.1 points and career-high 6.1 rebounds. Theis is also playing the most minutes of his career (22.6) and shooting a career-best 55.0% from the field.

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 11 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Clippers 116, Magic 106

Moneyline (ML)

The CLIPPERS (-182) are only slight moneyline favorites. That is somewhat surprising as the Clippers have won five of their last six games and are an incredible 10-0 against the Magic in their last 10 meetings. Orlando has lost four of its last five games as well, making this an easy bet on Los Angeles.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Somehow, the CLIPPERS (-4.5, –106) are just favored by 4.5 points. While Orlando has won 13 of its 23 games at home, this is just too big of a talent mismatch despite Paul George not suiting up for the Clippers. Orlando’s 29th-ranked offense shouldn’t be able to keep up with Los Angeles, which should allow the Clippers to cover with ease.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total for this matchup is set at 218.5 points, which feels a bit too low considering how well the Clippers have played on offense this season. They are averaging nearly 115.7 points per game despite missing key contributors for big portions of the season. While the Magic do have the league’s No.1 ranked defense, expect this game to reach the 220 mark and for the OVER (-106) to hit.

Prediction

Magic 111, Kings 106

Moneyline (ML)

The MAGIC (+110) are a nice value as short ‘dogs on the road against a Kings (-133) team which has won just two of their past nine games at home. Orlando lost a heartbreaker in Phoenix last time out over the weekend, falling 98-94 while covering the spread. The Magic have won a respectable five of the past 11 straight up away from home.

New to sports betting? Every $10 wagered on the Magic ML will profit $11 if they win.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The MAGIC (+1.5, -106) have cashed in five of the past six games against the number, while going 7-3-1 ATS in the past 11 on the road. Orlando is also 13-3 ATS in the past 16 on the road against teams with a losing home mark, too.

The Kings (-1.5, -115) have cashed in just four of their last 13 games overall, and are 3-8 ATS in the past 11 as a favorite. Sacto has also cashed in just two of its previous 11 at home, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 210.5 (-106) is where it’s at. The Over has cashed in five of the past seven road games for Orlando, while hitting in five of the past seven for Sacto as a favorite.

Prediction

Nets 105, Magic 99

Moneyline (ML)

It’s a bummer that recently activated SF Caris LeVert won’t be able to suit up for this matchup but we are still on the NETS (+170) here. We all know all-star C Nikola Vucevic is key to the Magic’s success and he hasn’t faired well against Jordan in their 12 career meetings. Vucevic’s teams are 2-10 versus Jordan’s teams and Jordan holds Vucevic below his averages in field goal percentage (.436) and points per game (13.7). Also, both Jordan and regular Nets starter C Jarrett Allen have better offensive ratings than Magic bigs Vucevic and C Mo Bamba.

New to sports betting? Bet $30 on the Nets to win outright to earn a profit of $51.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Nets need to break out of their recent slump and playing a Magic team, which they are 6-4 against straight up (6-3-1 against the spread), will do the trick. Back to the frontcourt advantage for Brooklyn: The Magic’s fifth-ranked opponent’s points in the paint defense will be tested against a Nets team fourth in the NBA in points in the paint. While the Magic themselves are ranked fifth in points in the paint, the Nets do a good job minimizing inside scoring—ranked eighth in the NBA.

Furthermore, I like how the Nets defend the three (ranked third in opponent’s 3-point percentage) compared to the Magic’s outside shooting (ranked 27th in 3-point percentage) and the Nets get the second-most rebounds per game while the Magic are ranked 28th in opponent’s RPG.

Bet NETS (+4.5, -106). New to sports betting? Bet $70 on the Nets +4.5 (-106) to earn a profit of $66.

Over/Under (O/U)

Neither offense is impressive—Nets are ranked 16th in PPG, the Magic are ranked 30th. The Nets are 24th in FG% and the Magic are 27th. Plus, their combined Over/Under record is just 32-36-2. The low total of 210.5 (Over: +105, Under: -130) has me PASSING.

Philadelphia 76ers at Orlando Magic odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s Philadelphia 76ers at Orlando Magic sports betting odds and lines, with NBA betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Philadelphia 76ers (23-10) visit the Orlando Magic (13-17) Friday at 7 p.m. ET at Amway Center. We analyze the 76ers-Magic odds and lines, with NBA betting advice and tips around the matchup.

The 76ers beat the Milwaukee Bucks 121-109 at home on Christmas Day for a third consecutive win. C Joel Embiid tallied 31 points and 11 rebounds and Philly covered as 2.5-point underdogs and tied a franchise-record with 21 3-pointers.

The Magic, who snapped a three-game skid with a 103-95 home win vs. the Chicago Bulls on Monday, took the first meeting of the season vs. the 76ers 112-97 at home Nov. 13. C Nikola Vucevic led seven Orlando players in double figures with a 25-point outing in that first Philly matchup, plus the Magic outscored the 76ers 32-15 in the fourth quarter.

76ers at Magic: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated Thursday at 10:40 p.m. ET.

Prediction

76ers 112, Magic 105

Moneyline (ML)

I expect the 76ers (-143) to beat the Magic (+120) despite Philly’s 7-8 road record and Orlando’s 9-6 mark at home (Philly is 6-8-1 ATS on the road; Orlando is 5-9-1 ATS at home). Depending on what kind of juice you’re willing to risk, bet either the 76ers ML or the 76ers spread (mentioned below), but don’t bet both.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The 76ERS -3.5 (+105) are the STRONGEST PLAY. I expect them to carry over the momentum from their impressive Christmas Day win vs. Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks into Central Florida. They’ll also be a little extra motivated – and focused – from the 15-point November loss at Orlando.

Every $1.43 wagered on the 76ers to win straight up will profit a $1 if they win. However, they must win by 4 points or more if you’re backing the spread where every $1 wagered will profit $1.05 if they do so.

Over/Under (O/U)
