USA TODAY releases SEC power rankings – where’s Georgia football?

USA TODAY has releases their weekly SEC power rankings ahead of week 13. See where Georgia football ranks among the rest of the SEC.

The buzz around college football has been that after the South Carolina loss, Georgia controls its own destiny… and control it they have.

The Dawgs remain at No. 4 in the rankings following a 21-14 win over Auburn, and secured a ticket to the SEC Championship game.

USA TODAY’s SEC power rankings have Georgia at the No. 2 spot, dropping Alabama to No. 3 and LSU taking the No. 1 spot.

On Georgia, Horka said:

“It surely wasn’t an offensive exhibition from the Bulldogs in their big win over Auburn, but a win is a win regardless. It’s looks likely that Georgia will meet LSU in the SEC Championship game, but it doesn’t look like the Dawgs will be able to go blow for blow with Burrow and company.”

Here is his top-six in the SEC:

LSU (10-0, 6-0 SEC)
Georgia (9-1, 6-1 SEC)
Alabama (9-1, 6-1 SEC)
Florida (9-2, 6-2 SEC)
Auburn (7-3, 4-3 SEC)
Texas A&M (7-3, 4-2 SEC)

Georgia has one more SEC opponent in its way before the SEC Championship.

Texas A&M seems like it should be a Georgia win this Saturday at 3:30 p.m., but the Dawgs need to make sure they don’t play down to the Aggies’ level.

This game has trap game written all over it and if we’ve learned anything this year, it’s don’t take any team lightly.

The 2019 college football season has quickly flow by, with just two weeks of regular season football remaining before conference championships take place in early December.

The pretenders and the contenders continue to sort themselves out this month, as we find out who truly belongs in the conversation for a playoff spot.

However, there’s still more to play for than just a Top 4 spot and an invitation to this year’s bracket.

Predicting College Football Playoff rankings – Does Georgia football move?

Does Georgia football move in our predictions of the new College Football Playoff rankings.

On Tuesday night, the College Football Playoff rankings will be revealed on ESPN. Between now and then, the committee will have a lot to discuss regarding the 5-10 positions.

As for 1-4, it’s pretty set in stone.

LSU, Ohio State, Clemson and Georgia all took care of business. The Dawgs definitely had the most impressive win of the weekend among those teams, a road win vs No. 12 Auburn, but it should remain at four as the three undefeateds ahead of it still have a 0 in the loss column.

There was some drama on Saturday.

1-7 all won their games, but in Tuscaloosa the Tide surely are not celebrating after hearing the news that Tua Tagovailoa dislocated his hip and will be out for the remainder of the season.

The highest ranked team to lose was No. 8 Minnesota, which fell to Iowa.

No. 9 Penn State survived a scare from Indiana but held on to win by a touchdown.

And No. 13 Baylor was handed its first loss of the season via an epic comeback from Jalen Hurts and Oklahoma.

With everything in mind, I will attempt to predict what the committee will do on Tuesday.

These are not my rankings, but a prediction of what the rankings will look like

1. LSU

2. Ohio State

3. Clemson

4. Georgia

5. Alabama

I think the committee is going to give Alabama the benefit of the doubt until the Tide prove they don’t belong. If Alabama loses to Auburn, it’ll obviously move down. So they’ll just wait and see.

7. Utah

8. Oklahoma (jumps Penn State)

9. Penn State

10. Florida

This would give Georgia one win over a team in the top-10, Florida. Additionally, I predict Auburn will fall to No. 17 and Notre Dame, after destroying Navy, will move to no. 13.

The LSU football team is getting credit for helping the Louisiana governor win reelection

Yeah, that checks out

President Donald Trump recently spent time campaigning in Louisiana — when he wasn’t paying a $2 million fine for misusing his charitable foundation for his own benefit, or live tweeting his own impeachment hearings — to try to bolster the chance of the Republican candidate for governor there.

That candidate, Eddie Risponse, lost to incumbent John Bel Edwards on Saturday night. And as pundits everywhere reacted to the results, attempting to decipher what it all means for Trump’s influence in the Republican Party moving forward, this spectacular tweet entered the world and I wanted to give it human form and embrace it in the longest of bear hugs.

I’m not gloating over a Democratic win here. We can set aside my own political feelings for a moment. What I love most is that we still, in 2019, know so little about the forces moving our electorate that we’re liable to just give a recent football game the credit — AND THAT MIGHT BE ABSOLUTELY TRUE.

I have no doubt that the people of Louisiana may feel better about, well, everything in the wake of LSU finally beating Alabama at football again. That win has nothing to do with the governor — and everything to do with Coach O and his speeches — but sports is a thing we can all easily grasp and come together around. Public policy? Not so much.

That’s not great for the strength of our democracy, when you think about it, but it’s also not by any means a new phenomenon. Elections have long swung on popularity and general prosperity — whether or not those things were germane in any way.

Of course, former Alabama running back Mark Ingram has already blamed the Crimson Tide’s loss on Trump … so if that logic follows (it doesn’t, but go with me) then it was Trump, in the end, that doomed Republicans in Louisiana — via football, not all the the other stuff being debated on the Sunday morning shows as I type.

Phenom Hoops Showcase: Chosen 25 shooting guard Cam Thomas focused on two

Cam Thomas said he’s focused on LSU and UCLA and could decide at any time.

RALEIGH, N.C. – It’s not that Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Virginia) shooting guard Cam Thomas is devoid of passion for the game or an excitement about his propensity to score loads of point night in and night out; it’s just that when you’ve been the leading scorer not just on your team, but in every league you’ve ever played from the age of 7, you tend to get used to the swish of the nets on your jump shots.

“Scoring isn’t hard for me,” said Thomas, who is ranked No. 11 overall in USA Today Sports’ Chosen 25. “I feel like I was born to do it. I just look at it as me doing my job for my team to win. I don’t see it as anything special.”

Hard sell for a guy pumping in 35 points a game on the No. 14 team in USA Today’s Super 25.

On Friday, Thomas’ scoring barrage continued, dropping 22 points in Oak Hill’s 89-45 win over Crestwood Prep College (Toronto) at the Phenom Hoops National High School Showcase.

“I just try to do my job, but I’m most happy with the win,” Thomas said. “I know that people think we’re down this year, but I use it as motivation.”

As for his recruitment, Thomas said LSU and UCLA “are standing out,” but Auburn is still in the mix.

As for when he’ll decide, Thomas said he wasn’t sure but didn’t rule out the possibility of committing during the NCAA’s Early Signing Period which kicked off on Nov. 13 and runs through Nov. 20.

“I don’t really know when it’ll happen,” Thomas said. “I feel like I’ll know when I’m ready. I want to go to a school that’s gonna let me play my game, a school that will get me better and a school with a family-like atmosphere. I feel like all three of the schools will give me that so it will be a hard decision for sure.”

Fresh off a win over Alabama, the No. 1-ranked LSU Tigers (9-0, 5-0 SEC) will take on the Ole Miss Rebels (4-6, 2-4) in Oxford, Miss., on Saturday night. Kickoff from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium will be at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the LSU-Ole Miss odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

LSU at Ole Miss: Three things you need to know

1. The Tigers have beaten four teams ranked in the top 10 at the time in Texas, Florida, Auburn and Alabama. Still undefeated, they have the best resume in college football and are fourth in the country in scoring at 46.7 points per game.

2. LSU will, however, be without LT Saahdiq Charles (coach’s decision) on Saturday — the fifth time this season he will sit for that reason. RT Austin Deculus is a game-time decision with an undisclosed injury. He sounds unlikely to play.

3. Ole Miss RB Scottie Phillips is questionable to play due to an ankle injury. He’s the Rebels’ second-leading rusher this season, racking up 542 yards and 5 TDs.

Moneyline (ML)

There’s very little doubt that the Tigers are going to win this one outright. That doesn’t necessarily mean you should touch the moneyline (-1250), though. A $10 bet on the LSU moneyline will only net you $0.80 — not worth the risk, in my mind.

Stay away from the moneyline in this one because of the lopsided nature of the matchup. Yes, LSU should win — and most likely will — but there’s such little upside that it’s not worth the risk.

Against the Spread (ATS)

The Tigers enter this game as 20.5-point favorites on the road. They looked dominant in the first half against Alabama and held on for the win, and that emotional victory could have some lingering effects on this one.

They’re 4-1 ATS against Ole Miss in their last five meetings, but the Rebels are 5-1 ATS in their last six games this season, so they’ve done a good job of covering despite their 4-6 overall record. Take the points with OLE MISS (+20.5, +105).

Over/Under (O/U)

It’s hard to see the Rebels scoring enough to push this game over 64.5 points, and LSU could be without both of their offensive tackles. The total has gone under in four of Ole Miss’ last five games, including each of the last three. The under is 2-1 in the Tigers’ last three games, too.

Bet the UNDER (-110). That total of 64.5 is too high.

Georgia is rated over Alabama. Does anyone in their right mind actually think Georgia is a better football team outside of Athens?

The latest College Football Playoff rankings came out Tuesday night as much drama surrounded how far Alabama would fall after losing at home to LSU, if LSU would jump previously No.1 Ohio State and how far Minnesota would rise after upsetting previously No. 4 Penn State this weekend.

The College Football Playoff rankings were revealed on Tuesday night and Georgia checked in at No. 4

The full top-ten looks like:

1. LSU

This Saturday when Georgia takes on Auburn, it will be No. 4 vs No. 12 on the Plains.

To date, Georgia has two signature wins over Florida and Notre Dame and will look to add a third this weekend, which would also clinch the SEC East for the third consecutive season for the Dawgs.

Florida ranked No. 11 while Notre Dame is sitting at No. 16

With Alabama losing to LSU, the big question was whether or not the committee valued Bama’s combo of no signature wins and a forgivable loss over Georgia’s big wins and a bad loss.

That question was answered tonight.
