NBA Draft Lottery: Warriors’ 2024 first round pick goes to Trail Blazers

Following the lottery, the Warriors 2024 first round selection will officially head to the Trail Blazers.

Despite holding a seat at the NBA draft lottery, the Golden State Warriors’ chances of keeping their 2024 first-round selection were slim.

With their 2024 first-round pick being only top-four protected, the Warriors’ pick was likely headed to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of a 2019 trade with the Memphis Grizzlies that included Andre Iguodala.

The Warriors had a less than 1% chance of landing in the top four and a 0.7% chance of becoming the first pick. Heading into Sunday, the Warriors had a 96.6% chance of ending up with the No. 14 selection in the first round of the 2024 draft.

Once the lottery was underway in Chicago on Sunday, the Warriors quickly landed that No. 14 selection. After their pick was revealed, the pick was conveyed to the Portland Trail Blazers, meaning the Warriors will not have a selection in the first round of the 2024 NBA draft.

While the Warriors had an unlikely chance of landing the top overall pick in the lottery, so did the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks had the 10th-best odds to get the No. 1 pick: 3%. Despite their slim odds, the Hawks won the lottery for the first time in franchise history and gained the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA draft.

Following the Hawks, the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and Detroit Pistons round out the top five in the draft.

The first round of the NBA draft is Friday, June 26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The second round of the draft will take place on Saturday, June 27.

Mega Millions numbers: Someone won a $1.13 billion jackpot in New Jersey

We have a winner!

Congrats to the person in New Jersey who woke up a billionaire (well, millionaire after taxes).

That someone nailed all six numbers on Tuesday night to win $1.13 billion (WITH A B!) in the Mega Millions drawing, with a citizen of the Garden State grabbing the money.

Per Northjersey.com, there were other winners all around the United Sates who won $1 million and $2 million prizes. So it was a good night for some folks in the lottery.

And what were those numbers? That would be: 7, 11, 22, 29, 38 and a gold Mega Ball of 4.

Congrats to the big winner and everyone else who won big!

Brandon Miller mock draft status post 2023 NBA lottery

Latest 2023 NBA mock draft features Brandon Miller in the top three

One of the most unique things about the NBA is the way they go about handling the draft process. To prevent teams from tanking, they don’t guarantee the team with the worst record the No. 1 overall draft pick as they do in the NFL. In the NBA, the worse your record is, the higher your odds will be to earn the top pick, but it is literally a lottery, and teams with a 1.52% chance of earning the top pick, like the 1993 Orlando Magic, have pulled off the impossible before.

The NBA recently completed its 2023 lottery with the San Antonio Spurs securing the No. 1 selection which will be used to take generational talent, Victor Wembanyama. After the Spurs, the next four picks (in order) will be the Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, Houston Rockets and the Detroit Pistons.

The order of the draft is very intriguing for Alabama fans this year as former standout, [autotag]Brandon Miller[/autotag], is expected to be the second or third selection in this draft. Wembanyama is the clear-cut No. 1 pick, but Miller and Scoot Henderson of the G-League are competing to be taken with the second pick.

For The Win of USA TODAY Sports currently projects that Miller will be the second selection to the Hornets and will team up with 22-year-old viral sensation and All-Star, LaMelo Ball.

I agree that Miller is likely the pick here because Henderson is also a guard and that is not a position of need with Ball already on the roster. It would be an outstanding landing spot for Miller as he would likely be slated as a day-one starter with the green light to take as many shots as he would like. The Hornets organization is owned by Bulls legend, Michael Jordan, who would hopefully be willing to mentor the young star.

To back up their projection of Miller being taken No. 2 overall, Bryan Kalbrosky of For The Win says,

“Brandon Miller was incredibly productive during his one-and-done campaign at Alabama. The only freshmen 6-foot-9 or shorter on record with a higher box plus-minus are Zion Williamson, Michael Beasley, James Harden, and Lonzo Ball. He was a consensus All-American who was named SEC Rookie of the Year, SEC Tournament MVP, and SEC Player of the Year. His blend of size and shooting touch makes him a perfect fit for the modern NBA.”

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Brandon Miller as the 2023 NBA draft approaches.

Some very lucky person in California finally hit the $2 billion Powerball jackpot

Everyone else will have to try again next time.

Not to ruin everyone’s dream of becoming a billionaire, but somebody hit the Powerball jackpot in Los Angeles County, California lottery officials said Tuesday.

So for all of us who didn’t buy the winning $2 billion ticket at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena — a gas station just north of Pasadena — we’ll have to try again next time.

After an overnight delay held up the drawing on Monday, Powerball officials announced the winning numbers Tuesday morning as 10, 33, 41, 47, 56 and another 10 as the Powerball.

Odds of winning were one in 292.2 million, according to the New York Times. Tuesday’s jackpot ended a streak of 40 straight drawings without a winner.

California officials said the ticket holder will become the state’s first lottery billionaire. The payout will be the largest in U.S. lottery history, eclipsing the $1.586 billion payout in 2016 that was split among three different winners.

New York Islanders buy $50,000 worth of Mega Millions lottery tickets as jackpot reaches $1.2 billion

Islanders fans have 25,000 reasons to pay attention to the next drawing

The Mega Millions jackpot is up to $1.2 billion and everyone wants a piece of the pie. Everyone, including the New York Islanders, which purchased $50,000 in tickets, the team announced.

Why $50,000? Apparently, the figure is in honor of the team’s 50th anniversary. Per Newsday’s Andrew Gross:

“As we prepare for our historic 50th anniversary season, we want to show our appreciation for our Islanders’ season ticket members and staff and give them a chance to participate in this massive Mega Millions drawing,” Islanders co-owner Jon Ledecky said in a statement. “Revenue from lottery tickets is dedicated to education in New York state, so no matter what happens in today’s historic drawing, important funds have been generated for education in the state, which supports our fan base and their families.”

The $50,000 equates to 25,000 entries and the potential prize money would be split evenly between the team’s full-season ticket holders, suite holders, staff and the Islanders’ Children’s Foundation — but only for earnings above $250,000. Anything below will go solely to the foundation.

As it stands, there will be many Islanders faithful paying extra attention to the lottery. Maybe it’ll set the tone for New York’s upcoming NHL season.

The Mega Millions jackpot just jumped to $600 million

My goodness.

Yes, you did read that correctly. The Mega Millions just jumped again. This time, it’s up to $600 million.

No one won the $520 million jackpot this week so the prize climbed again for next Tuesday’s upcoming drawing, according to CNBC, so it jumped up to $600 million with the winner’s cash option amount landing at $442 million.

Though this jackpot is pretty massive, this is only the 8th highest jackpot in the history of the lottery. The biggest one came back in 2016 when the winner won a $1.58 billion (!!!!) Powerball jackpot that was ultimately split between three winners.

The taxes on the winnings can get pretty crazy, according to CNBC. Look at this.

“For the $600 million Mega Millions jackpot, the cash option — which most winners choose instead of an annuity — is $442.4 million. The 24% withholding would shave about $106.2 million off before the prize reaches you.”

Sheesh. That is what it is, though. That’s still a whooooole lot of money.

As far as your chances, though? I wouldn’t hold my breath. The chances of actually hitting the entire Mega Millions jackpot is 1 in 302 million, per CNBC. You have a better chance of getting struck by lightning at 1 in 500,000.

Still. Worth a shot! You never know, fam. You never know.

Steph Curry picked to represent the Golden State Warriors at the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery

Before the Warriors make their first top-five pick in the NBA Draft since 2002, Stephen Curry will represent Golden State at the lottery.

For the first time in five seasons, the Golden State Warriors will not be gearing up for a run at the NBA Finals. Instead, Bob Myers and Steve Kerr will be busy with NBA Draft homework. With the league’s worst record, the Warriors will be in line for a top-five pick for the first time since 2002.

Before the Warriors can map out their exact plan for draft day, they’ll need to know when they’re on the clock. For the first time in years, the Warriors will take part in the NBA Draft Lottery. With a week left on the calendar before the NBA breaks out their ping pong balls, the Warriors announced Stephen Curry would virtually represent the Dub Nation at the lottery.

Via @warriors on Twitter:

The two-time Most Valuable Player will be on-hand to help sway Golden State’s chances of landing the top overall selection.

Along with Curry, the Warriors announced their “official Draft Lottery lucky charm.” The All-Star point guard will be joined by Warriors owner Joe Lacob’s dog “Larry” at the virtual edition of the lottery.

The Warriors will have a 14% chance of landing the No. 1 pick, a 13.4% for No. 2, a 12.7% for No. 3, a 12.0% chance for No. 4 and a 47.9% shot of securing the No. 5 pick.

The NBA Draft Lottery is slated to begin on Thursday, Aug. 20.

Report: NBA moving up the date of the 2020 Draft Lottery to August 20

After the NBA moved up the Draft Lottery by five days, the Warriors will know where they’re picking in the draft earlier than expected.

For the first time in five years, the Golden State Warriors won’t be prepping for a trip to the NBA Finals. Instead, the next event circled on Golden State’s calendar is the NBA’s Draft Lottery.

After a league-worst 15-50 record, the Warriors will have the opportunity to make a selection inside the lottery for the first time since 2012. The 2020 draft will also serve as the first time the Warriors have been slated for a pick in the top five since 2002.

Before the Warriors submit their highly anticipated pick, Steve Kerr and Bob Myers will need to know when they’ll be on the clock. After initially rescheduling the lottery on Aug. 25, Shams Charania is reporting the league will move the event up to Aug. 20.

Via @ShamsCharania on Twitter:

According to Tankathon.com, the Warriors have a 14% chance of landing the first pick and a 47.9% chance of securing the fifth pick.

In recent mock drafts, USC’s Onyeka Okongwu, Georgia’s Anthony Edwards, Florida State’s Devin Vassell and Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Deni Avdija have been popular options for the Golden State Warriors.

Once the Warriors nail down where they’re making the selection, the tandem of Myers and Kerr will have a better idea of what prospect they can add alongside Stephen Curry. Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

Georgia basketball star Anthony Edwards goes No. 1 in latest NBA mock draft

Georgia forward Anthony Edwards goes No. 1 in NBC’s latest NBA mock draft

Georgia’s Anthony Edwards was selected at No. 1 in NBC Sports‘ latest NBA mock draft.

On June 25, Edwards could be UGA’s first ever No. 1 selection in the NBA Draft.

The 6-foot-4 guard was a one-and-done at Georgia, displaying an incredible scoring ability and freakish athleticism.

The SEC Freshman of the Year scored a team-leading 19.1 points per game while adding 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.

On Edwards, NBC Sports wrote:

Edwards is the best scorer in this 2020 NBA Mock Draft. At 6-foot-4 with a 6-foot-8 wingspan and explosive athleticism, he’s proven himself to be a dangerous three-level bucket-getter that can get hot and do things like score 33 points in a half. Ask Michigan State. He also has the physical profile of a guard that can defend two or three different positions in the NBA. It’s all there.

Although Edwards is perhaps the most proficient scorer in this year’s draft class, there are still some questions regarding his jump-shot.

At UGA, Edwards shot 29% from the 3-pt line, however, the numbers may not reflect that the guard was forced to be a one-man show for the Bulldogs.

Whether Edwards goes first or not, Bulldog fans hope he lands with a certain team from Atlanta…..

The Hawks do currently hold one of 14 projected lottery picks, so there is a possibility Edwards may be back in the red and black this fall.
