NBA Draft order: A look at where every team is picking after the NBA lottery

Here’s where every team is picking following the NBA lottery.

It’s officially NBA Draft season, folks. The lottery is over and we now know exactly where Victor Wembanyama will be headed.

San Antonio Spurs fans will be absolutely thrilled to get someone who NBA folks are calling the most exciting prospect we’ve seen in league history.

But, beyond Wembanyama, there’s still an entire draft class of players who will need to find new homes as they enter into the NBA. The teams picking through the class still have plenty of work to do before they decide who, exactly, they’re taking — even beyond the lottery.

With that said, now that everything is set, here’s the official and complete order for the 2023 NBA Draft (and check out our latest NBA mock draft after the lottery!)

UPDATE: We adjusted this after the Celtics, Wizards and Grizzlies trade

The winners (Damian Lillard) and losers (poor Pistons) of the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery

Who won and lost the 2023 NBA Draft lottery (yes, the Spurs are in here, obviously!).

The much-anticipated — even that feels like an understatement — 2023 NBA Draft Lottery is over, and the San Antonio Spurs won it all thanks to some ping pong ball luck.

So it would be obvious who the biggest winner of the night was: The team that will presumably take Victor Wembanyama (called perhaps “the greatest prospect in the history of team sports” by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, which felt hyperbolic). But there were other things that happened as the 2023 draft order was announced.

So let’s run through some of the winners and losers — yes, including the Spurs — of the night. And check out our latest instant NBA mock draft after the lottery.

NBA lottery 2023 representatives: A complete list of who will be on the podium for each team

Here’s who you’ll see on the podium for the 2023 NBA lottery.

It’s 2023 NBA DRAFT LOTTERY DAY! WHAT A DAY AHEAD!

That means we get to see who will get the No. 1 pick and the chance to draft Victor Wembanyama, who is 7-foot-4 but isn’t your prototypical NBA center. Of course, there are other outstanding players to take after him — check out our latest NBA mock draft — but Wemby is the focus.

There are 14 teams who will have representatives attending the lottery on stage as the picks are revealed, so if you’re wondering who’s who, you’ve come to the right place.

Here’s a list of the names who will be representing each of those teams:

How the Mavericks could give the Knicks a lottery pick if the ping pong balls don’t go their way

While everyone else wants to win the lottery, the Mavs have to hope not to lose it.

It’s NBA lottery time and, obviously, every team in the league’s bottom (or top?) 14 teams are hoping for a bit of luck in jumping to the top here.

It’s for good reason — everyone knows who is waiting at the top of the draft. The 7-foot-5 basketball phenom Victor Wembanyama is going to change the trajectory of some lucky NBA team very, very quickly.

But while everyone else is looking for a shot at Wembanyama, the Dallas Mavericks are sitting there toward the bottom of the lottery just desperately hoping that they don’t just get kicked out of the club.

The Mavericks need some luck here — but it’s a different kind of luck. Let’s dive into it.

The last time each NBA lottery 2023 team actually won the No. 1 pick

Not every team has had the luck of the ping pong balls with them.

Draft season is officially upon us, folks. The lottery is here and we’ll soon see exactly who is winning the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes.

Each team in the lottery has a chance, but obviously, some have a much better chance than others. The Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs all have a 14% chance to grab that No. 1 overall pick, but we have no idea how this will play out.

Some team might jump up. Some team will inevitably fall down. That’s just how the lottery works. You just have to hope it’s in your team’s favor.

As far as how that goes, here’s how every team currently in the lottery has fared at getting the No. 1 overall pick. Everyone hasn’t been so lucky.

Twitter reacts as Timberwolves pick UGA’s Anthony Edwards first

Social media reacted as the Minnesota Timberwolves drafted Georgia Bulldogs star Anthony Edwards number one overall in the 2020 NBA Draft.

The Minnesota Timberwolves drafted Georgia Bulldogs standout basketball player Anthony Edwards number one overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. Edwards is the first Georgia basketball prospect to be selected with the top pick.

Edwards is considered one of the top NBA prospects to ever come out of the University of Georgia. In fact, Edwards is the highest selected played in UGA basketball history. NBA legend Dominique Wilkins was the previous record. Wilkins was picked third overall in the 1982 NBA Draft.

Here’s how social media reacted to the selection of Georgia Bulldogs star Anthony Edwards:

It is a memorable day for Anthony Edwards, who honored members of his family:

Adam Silver says NBA’s ‘No. 1 goal’ is getting fans in arenas

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols that the start of the NBA season in December is “a little early.”

Prior to Thursday night’s important Game 2 between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Portland Trail Blazers, there was an important order of business for the NBA that occurred in the minutes before the game. During the ESPN broadcast of the NBA Draft Lottery, which determined the draft order for the first 14 picks of the 2020 NBA Draft, Adam Silver admitted what had been reported earlier in the day. A start to the 2020-21 season in early December is unlikely to come to pass.

For the NBA, the No. 1 priority is getting fans back into arenas and they will try to wait as long as possible for that revenue stream to be available to them.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported earlier in the day that the NBA Player’s Association was already telling their players to prepare for a delay in free agency and a delay in the start of the NBA Draft as well.

The first pick in Thursday’s lottery was won by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

NBA lottery will impact Anthony Edwards’ career

Georgia Bulldogs standout basketball player Anthony Edwards’ NBA career will be swayed by the NBA’s Draft Lottery.

Georgia Bulldogs standout basketball player Anthony Edwards has a big week coming up. His NBA career and his next basketball home will be partially determined by Thursday’s NBA Draft Lottery.

Edwards is considered one of the top NBA prospects to ever come out of the University of Georgia. He’s projected to be a top five pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

The Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Cleveland Cavaliers all have a greater than ten percent chance of landing the number one overall pick.

Edwards could land in a variety of different situations. The Atlanta Hawks are Edwards’ hometown team and would be the preferred landing spot for many Georgia Bulldogs fans.

Contrarily, Edwards could end up with the Golden State Warriors, who are anticipated to return to being NBA title contenders next season. He’d have excellent mentors with the Warriors. Golden State will consider trading their top draft pick for a superstar, so that opens up even more possibilities for Edwards.

This NBA Draft doesn’t have a standout superstar like previous years. This combined with the endless possibilities of the NBA Draft Lottery mean that much of Anthony Edwards’ basketball career is hanging in the balance. Being in the right situation makes all the difference for stars in today’s NBA.

The 2020 NBA Draft takes place on Oct. 16.

NCAA sets deadline to withdraw from NBA draft

The NCAA has set a deadline to withdraw from the NBA draft and retain collegiate eligibility after the NBA announced their draft date today.

The NBA Draft usually happens at the end of June, right after the NBA Finals take place.  With the suspension of the NBA’s season and it now set to re-start at the end of July, the draft is slated to now happen on October 15.

The NCAA then announced the dates in which prospects can withdraw from the draft and return to school without losing any eligibility.

That deadline will occur ten days after the NBA Draft combine or August 3, whichever comes first.

Georgia basketball star Anthony Edwards goes No. 1 in latest NBA mock draft

Georgia forward Anthony Edwards goes No. 1 in NBC’s latest NBA mock draft

Georgia’s Anthony Edwards was selected at No. 1 in NBC Sports‘ latest NBA mock draft.

On June 25, Edwards could be UGA’s first ever No. 1 selection in the NBA Draft.

The 6-foot-4 guard was a one-and-done at Georgia, displaying an incredible scoring ability and freakish athleticism.

The SEC Freshman of the Year scored a team-leading 19.1 points per game while adding 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.

On Edwards, NBC Sports wrote:

Edwards is the best scorer in this 2020 NBA Mock Draft. At 6-foot-4 with a 6-foot-8 wingspan and explosive athleticism, he’s proven himself to be a dangerous three-level bucket-getter that can get hot and do things like score 33 points in a half. Ask Michigan State. He also has the physical profile of a guard that can defend two or three different positions in the NBA. It’s all there.

Although Edwards is perhaps the most proficient scorer in this year’s draft class, there are still some questions regarding his jump-shot.

At UGA, Edwards shot 29% from the 3-pt line, however, the numbers may not reflect that the guard was forced to be a one-man show for the Bulldogs.

Whether Edwards goes first or not, Bulldog fans hope he lands with a certain team from Atlanta…..

The Hawks do currently hold one of 14 projected lottery picks, so there is a possibility Edwards may be back in the red and black this fall.
