Abdur-Rahim helped Kennesaw State make the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Kennesaw State was a No. 14 seed in March Madness and lost its opening game to Xavier. Kennesaw State finished the 2022-2023 basketball season with a 26-9 record.

Amir Abdur-Rahim replaces former South Florida coach Brian Gregory in Tampa, Florida. USF last made the NCAA Tournament in 2012. The Bulls have had one winning season since 2012, which was during the 2018-2019 season under Brian Gregory.

Former Georgia Bulldog named as NBA All-Star

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, a former Georgia Bulldog, has been named as an NBA All-Star.

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has been named an NBA All-Star. Edwards is the first Georgia Bulldog to be named as an All-Star since Dominique Wilkins in 1993-1994.

Edwards was the No. 1 selection in the 2020 NBA draft. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound guard is in his third season in the NBA. Edwards is averaging 24.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. Each of these numbers represents a career high for Edwards.

The Timberwolves star is also shooting more efficiently. Edwards is making a career-high 46.4% of his field goal attempts and 36.7% of his 3-point attempts.

Edwards is making his first career All-Star appearance. The former No. 1 pick plans to play in the 72nd NBA All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, Utah. The All-Star Game will be played on Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. E.T.

Only 16 players in the NBA are scoring more points per game than Edwards.

The Atlanta native joins Toronto’s Pascal Siakam and Sacramento’s De’Aaron Fox as players to be named by the league as All-Star reserves. The trio replaces three injured NBA All-Stars: Kevin Durant, Steph Curry and Zion Williamson.

Edwards and the Timberwolves were happy to learn he made the 2023 NBA All-Star game.

UGA basketball falls to 4-7 in SEC play with loss to Ole Miss

Georgia basketball has lost six of its last seven games after a 3-1 SEC start

The Georgia Bulldogs lost 78-74 to the Ole Miss Rebels at home on Feb. 7. Georgia is now 4-7 in SEC conference play and 14-10 overall. Ole Miss moves to 2-9 in SEC play and 10-14 overall.

Head coach Mike White and the Bulldogs have dropped six of their last seven games after opening SEC play 3-1. Overall, Georgia basketball has been much more competitive this season, but it is clear that the Bulldogs need to improve if they want to be a future contender in the SEC.

Georgia limited turnovers (10) against Ole Miss. The Bulldogs did not shot three-pointers well and struggled from the free throw line to an extent.

Former Georgia guard Tye Fagan suited up for Ole Miss. Amazingly, Fagan,  who last played at Georgia during the 2020-2021 season, did not face any of his former teammates. That shows the amount of roster turnover the Dawgs have had recently.

Georgia basketball hosts Kentucky on Saturday, Feb. 11 at noon. Here’s a look at some key stats and photos from Georgia’s defeat to Ole Miss:

Twitter reacts: Georgia basketball defeats No. 20 Auburn

The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the No. 20 Auburn Tigers in their SEC opener

The Georgia Bulldogs (11-3, 1-0) have defeated the No. 20 Auburn Tigers (11-3, 1-1) in the biggest win of the year for head coach Mike White and the Dawgs. Georgia opens SEC play 1-0 for the first time in seven years.

Georgia got 26 points from guard Terry Roberts in the Bulldogs’ 76-64 win over Auburn. The Dawgs shot 40% from three-point territory in their win.

Kario Oquendo added 17 points and four rebounds for Georgia. Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe played a game-high 32 minutes. He contributed nine points, nine rebounds, two steals, and three assists.

Auburn forward Johni Broome scored 22 points and snatched 12 rebounds in Auburn’s road loss.

Right now, Georgia basketball is contending to play in the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs need to keep playing well in SEC action in order to stay on that path.

Here’s how Georgia basketball Twitter reacted to the Bulldogs’ home win over Auburn:

Georgia basketball star Jailyn Ingram tears ACL

The Georgia basketball program suffered a tough blow as shooting forward Jailyn Ingram has been diagnosed with a torn ACL.

The Georgia basketball program suffered a tough blow as shooting forward Jailyn Ingram has been diagnosed with a torn ACL. Ingram is Georgia’s third-leading scorer. Ingram averaged 10.7 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game for UGA.

At 6-foot-7, Ingram provided much needed size for Tom Crean and the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia is 4-5 on the season and is coming off wins over Jacksonville and No. 18 Memphis.

The Dawgs have a week off before they face George Mason on Dec. 18. Jailyn Ingram has five years of college basketball experience.

Ingram, who is from Madison, Georgia, joined the FAU Owls basketball program in 2016. Ingram transferred to Georgia this offseason. He’s played in 131 career college basketball games. His experience will be missed. It is possible that he could seek another year of eligibility from the NCAA.

Jailyn Ingram averaged 12.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game last season for FAU.

In Dec. 2018, Ingram suffered a torn ACL, which forced him to miss the rest of the 2018-2019 college basketball season. Ingram’s injury granted him another year of NCAA eligibility and is how he was playing in a sixth college basketball season this year. Will he return for a seventh?

Twitter reacts as Anthony Edwards snubbed for NBA Rookie of the Year

Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Anthony Edwards lost the NBA Rookie of the Year Award to Lamelo Ball.

Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Anthony Edwards fell short of winning the 2020-2021 NBA Rookie of the Year Award. Charlotte Hornets point guard Lamelo Ball won the award despite missing 21 games due to injury.

Edwards and Ball will forever be linked together as members of the 2020 NBA draft class. Edwards was the No. 1 selection and Ball was the No. 3 pick. Both players had impressive rookie seasons and have NBA All-Star potential.

Anthony Edwards had a better season statistically than Lamelo Ball, but Lamelo Ball’s voters will argue that Ball was more valuable to his team. Ball and the Hornets went 33-39 last season. Charlotte was in position to make the playoffs until the last game of the regular season. The Hornets greatly missed Ball when he missed extended time during the end of the season with a wrist injury.

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves went only 23-49 in another lackluster season for the franchise. Edwards did average 19.3 points per game compared to Lamelo’s 15.7 points per game.

Here is how NBA Twitter reacted to Lamelo Ball winning the NBA Rookie of the Year award at the expense of Anthony Edwards:

Georgia basketball’s K.D. Johnson transfers to Auburn

Former Georgia Bulldogs guard K.D. Johnson has transferred within the SEC to play basketball with the Auburn Tigers.

Former Georgia Bulldogs guard K.D. Johnson has transferred to the Auburn Tigers. He will be immediately eligible. Johnson was named to the coaches’ SEC All-Freshman team for his efforts throughout the 2020-2021 college basketball season.

The rising sophomore was Georgia’s second-leading scorer at 13.6 points per game. The Bulldogs will miss his scoring ability.

Georgia and Auburn both struggled last season. The Bulldogs finished the year 14-12. The Tigers went 13-14. Both teams finished with 7-11 records in SEC play.

K.D. Johnson is from Atlanta, Georgia and is a former four-star recruit from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia.

Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl has several other incoming transfers including: Walker Kessler (UNC), Desi Sills (Arkansas), and more. The Tigers will look to return to the NCAA Tournament once again in 2022.

Georgia basketball adds commitment from 3-star PG

The Georgia Bulldogs have added a commitment from three-star point guard Christian Wright out of Milton High School.

The Georgia Bulldogs have added a commitment from three-star point guard Christian Wright, who is a member of the class of 2021. Wright was previously committed to Rick Pitino and Iona basketball.

Now, Christian Wright will get a chance to be closer to home. Wright played basketball for Milton High School before joining The Skill Factory Prep.

Wright’s commitment is huge for Tom Crean and Georgia backetball, who are struggling with enormous amounts of roster turnover this offseason. Georgia basketball will have a new look in 2021.

The three-star point guard announced his decision via his Twitter account:

Christian Wright’s decision coincides with Sahvir Wheeler’s pending transfer. Wheeler put his name in the NCAA transfer portal to be closer to home and has entered the 2021 NBA Draft, but has not hired an agent, so Wheeler can return to school (if not drafted).

Georgia basketball lands UVA transfer, former elite recruit

The Georgia Bulldogs have added another transfer in Jabri Abdur-Rahim, a former Virginia Cavaliers guard.

The Georgia Bulldogs have added another transfer, Jabri Abdur-Rahim, who played sparingly for the Virginia Cavaliers last season. Abdur-Rahim is a former four-star shooting forward recruit, who is 6 feet, 7 inches.

Tom Crean and Georgia have added multiple transfers to fill holes left by the players who have transferred out of the Georgia program. The transfer portal is filled with players this offseason, so it is good that Georgia has replenished their roster to an extent.

Jabri Abdur-Rahim was ranked as the No. 38 recruit in the class of 2020. He played one season with the Cavaliers before entering the NCAA transfer portal. Abdur-Rahim will look for more playing time in Athens and is reuniting with his former AAU teammate Sahvir Wheeler.

At Virginia, Abdur-Rahim appeared in eight games, which were all blowouts. In Abdur-Rahim’s defense, Virginia’s Pack Line defensive scheme is tough to learn and its playing style is quite different from most basketball teams.

Abdur-Rahim played high school basketball at Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey. He was rated the No. 6 shooting forward in the country and the No. 2 prospect from New Jersey. Abdur-Rahim will have multiple years of eligibility at the University of Georgia.

The former four-star recruit announced his transfer decision via his Twitter account:
