The Detroit Lions are trading starting quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams for Jared Goff, two future first-round picks, and a third-round pick. Matthew Stafford, a former No. 1 overall pick out of the University of Georgia, requested a trade from the organization this offseason and was receiving significant interest on the market.

The Los Angeles Rams and head coach Sean McVay quickly acted and now they have a new franchise quarterback. Jared Goff, another former No. 1 overall pick, is presumed to be the starter in Detroit.

Matthew Stafford joins a Rams team who had the top defense in the league last season. Los Angeles finished the season 10-6, but was reliant on their elite defense. The Rams struggled at times offensively, especially when compared to previous years.

Jared Goff and the Rams lost in the Division Round of the postseason to the Green Bay Packers. That defeat ending up being Goff’s final game with Los Angeles.

Now, Goff will join former Rams executive Brad Holmes in Detroit. Holmes in now the Lions’ general manager and is looking to rebuild following a 5-11 season. Goff has decent weapons in Detroit like D’Andre Swift, T.J. Hockenson, but new head coach Dan Campbell is looking to re-sign Lions No. 1 wide receiver Kenny Golladay.

Former Georgia Bulldog earns over $1M incentive with sack

Los Angeles Rams and former Georgia Bulldogs outside linebacker Leonard Floyd recorded a sack on to earn a major contract incentive.

Los Angeles Rams outside linebacker Leonard Floyd recorded a sack on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals to earn a $1.25 million contract incentive.

The Rams signed Floyd, who was originally a first-round pick out of the University of Georgia, as a free agent this offseason after he previously played for the Chicago Bears.

The Rams defeated the Cardinals 18-7 to finish 10-6 and earn a playoff date with the Seattle Seahawks in the first round.

Floyd finished the season with 10.5 sacks, a career high. He has racked up 29.0 career sacks and will be a free agent after the season. Floyd is set to earn $10 million for his efforts this year.

Following Floyd’s successful season with the Rams, Los Angeles will likely look to retain him if it has the cap space available. Before then, Leonard Floyd will look to add to his postseason sack total (one career postseason sack).

The Los Angeles Rams have signed former Georgia Bulldog linebacker Natrez Patrick to their active roster and elevated J.R. Reed.

The Los Angeles Rams have signed former Georgia Bulldog linebacker Natrez Patrick to their active roster ahead of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. The Rams have had Natrez Patrick on both their 53-man roster and their practice squad this season.

Patrick has played in 19 career games for Los Angeles. He has recorded one tackle thus far this season.

Additionally, the Los Angeles Rams elevated former University of Georgia safety J.R. Reed from their practice squad to their game day roster. Reed made his NFL debut last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Rams made the two moves in a series of roster transactions. Additionally, L.A. activated former New England Patriots defensive end Derek Rivers from exemption and restored defensive back Jake Gervase to the practice squad.

Overall, the Los Angeles Rams are 7-3 and are looking to hold off the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West. Reed and Patrick may help the Rams make the playoffs if they can make impact plays on special teams and on defense.

Former Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Natrez Patrick has been promoted to the roster for the Los Angeles Rams

Former Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Natrez Patrick has been promoted to the roster for the Los Angeles Rams. Patrick has played in 13 total games in his NFL career including one this season. He’s recorded two total tackles while playing primarily special teams snaps.

The Rams are off to a 2-0 start to the 2020 season and face the Buffalo Bills this Sunday. According the Rams’ official Twitter account, Los Angeles has signed Patrick to the 53-man roster from their practice squad. In a corresponding move, Los Angeles added offensive lineman Joe Noteboom to injured reserve.

Patrick, who is only 23 years old, played at Benjamin Elijah Mays High School in Atlanta, Georgia before committing and playing at the University of Georgia. Patrick played for four seasons at UGA before going undrafted to the Los Angeles Rams following the 2019 NFL Draft.

Patrick will look to carve out a larger role for Los Angeles during his second year with the team. He’ll have a multi-week opportunity with Notebook missing a minimum of three weeks.

The Los Angeles Rams have signed former Georgia Bulldogs safety J.R. Reed to their practice squad. Reed was a first team Walter Camp All-American last season for the University of Georgia.

Reed went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft, despite his impressive accolades. He originally signed an undrafted deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but they cut him before the season.

Now, Reed will be reunited with former UGA defensive back Tyrique McGhee on the Los Angeles practice squad. Reed has the instincts and skill to compete in the NFL, but his physical traits have been questioned.

For Los Angeles Rams fans who are unfamiliar with J.R. Reed, they should know that they are landing a playmaker. Reed forced seven total turnovers in three seasons with Georgia. He racked up 199 tackles during this time. He’s a veteran, who played in 42 games throughout his decorated college career.

Recently released former New York Giants linebacker Alec Ogletree is seeking a new home. At 28 years old, Ogletree is still productive. He has the speed necessary to be a linebacker in the modern NFL.
