Former Longhorn Connor Williams to hold out of Dolphins minicamp

The former Longhorn is currently holding out of Miami’s minicamp.

The Miami Dolphins took the field Tuesday for minicamp with a nearly perfect attendance showing. The only person missing was former Texas left tackle Connor Williams.

The former Dallas Cowboy inked a two-year deal with the Dolphins last offseason, and aside from a change of scenery he also changed positions. Williams went from left guard to center, where he started all 17 games for Miami. The move to a new position clearly went well for both parties. The Dolphins had a great offensive attack last year that ranked No. 6 in yards per game and Williams was viewed as being one of their better linemen.

However, due to his strong performance it has become clear that Williams wants a little more compensation and a longer term deal. He is currently owed $7 million in the final year of his contract with the Dolphins.

Miami head coach Mike McDaniel told the media that Williams’ absence is not excused, but the two parties have been in touch. Williams also sat out of OTA’s last month, which are voluntary.

It appears that Williams will continue to hold out until he sees a deal that he believes is the right one for him.

The Dolphins started off hot last season, but finished the season 9-8 and with a loss in the wild card round of the playoffs. The team is hoping that star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa can remain healthy and new additions like Jalen Ramsey will be able to make a Super Bowl push.

Former Texas RB Bijan Robinson tries his luck at quarterback during Fanatics event

Bijan Robinson may wear No. 7 like Michael Vick but he sure doesn’t throw like him.

Bijan Robinson, former Texas running back and the No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, is good at many things. However, we recently learned that being used as a quarterback may not be in the cards for him.

The 2022 Doak Walker award winner was recently partaking in festivities at a Fanatics event and showed off his new No. 7 jersey for the Atlanta Falcons. That number was once donned by Falcon quarterback legend Michael Vick.

Similar to Vick, Robinson throws with his left hand. However, unlike Vick, Robinson doesn’t appear to have the touch. When attempting to throw a pass to fellow first round pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Robinson saw his pass intercepted by a Fanatics intern. Watch the video here.

Luckily for Robinson, the Falcons will not need him to throw passes anytime soon. The Longhorn legend will stick to running the ball and playing a little receiver. This past season, Robinson posted career highs in games played (12), rushing attempts (258), rushing touchdowns (18) and receiving yards (314).

Falcons fans can expect big things from the former five-star running back out of Arizona, as while Atlanta may have had other needs to address in the first round, Robinson and head coach Arthur Smith are a great pairing. Smith spent the 2019-2020 seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans, meaning he is well aware of how to utilize a star running back: He coached Derrick Henry.

As it stands, Robinson is the favorite to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award this season, which wouldn’t shock Texas fans at all.

Texas RB Bijan Robinson’s NFL draft stock is rising

The Chargers and Bills remain potential suitors for Bijan Robinson.

Bijan Robinson is rated as one of the top prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft. Many experts have the former Longhorn as one of their top 10 overall prospects.

Unfortunately for Robinson, the running back position has lost a bit of value over the years. It is a rare occurrence to see teams use a high draft pick on a running back in todays NFL.

Robinson may just be good enough to break that trend with running backs shuffling around all over the league this week in free agency. Bleacher Report believes Robinson’s draft stock is rising as the Bills and several other teams are still in need of a starting ball carrier.

The good news for the Texas product is that a new team, the Los Angeles Chargers, might be looking for a lead back.

At the beginning of free agency, Chargers running back Austin Ekeler asked for a trade, and the team permitted him to seek one. While nothing further has happened, Ekeler’s departure would leave the offense with a significant hole. Also, it doesn’t hurt that the running back-needy Bills haven’t signed a rusher in free agency, which should comfortably place the Longhorn as a rare first-round back.

Chicago Bears sign RB D’Onta Foreman to one-year deal

D’Onta Foreman is heading to Chicago.

D’Onta Foreman has found a new home as he inks a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears. The former Texas Longhorn standout is finding his footing in the NFL.

Foreman enjoyed the best season of his professional career with the Carolina Panthers in 2022. He ran for 914 yards and five touchdowns on a solid 4.5 yards per carry clip.

The Houston Texans drafted Foreman in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, where he played two seasons before being released. Foreman revitalized his career in Tennesee in 2021, filling in for an injured Derrick Henry to help the Titans reach the playoffs.

Foreman is one of a handful of players brought in by Chicago to bolster the roster this offseason. He should play a significant role in the Bears’ offense with David Montgumery heading to Detriot.
